We wanted to see which regions we loved, and which ones we could visit but check off our list. We wanted to have new experiences and just enjoy our lives more fully. Now that we've been on the road for a while, we cant believe how quickly time is flying by! We especially noticed how fast our daily pace is when we had to compare it to how other travelers went about their days. We spent a week with Julie's parents in Wyoming, and then another two weeks traveling with out friend Brian and some of his friends, all of whom are in their 50's and 60's. We started to realize that there were a ton of differences between how Brian strolled about his day vs how we raced through ours. And because were content creators, that gave us an idea. One 12 hour day, Brian VS us. A retired and financially stable guy in his 60's VS struggling kids in their 30's trying to "make it". A bet which started with a kickflip challenge, and ended with me getting a brand new tattoo. From Ben, who’s never tattooed in his life, and rarely sits down to sketch anything, ever. So here it is, the resolution to our competition, the finale to our epic challenge, THE TATTOO. I designed it myself, in the spitting image of Reli, my beloved scruffy dirtball terrier mutt, riding the skateboard we share. PS, he can't do a kickflip yet either.I did all the research I could on learning how to tattoo at home, ordered the best budget beginner supplies I could get my hands on (it’s a real balance between quality and the depth of your pockets), and began attempting to teach Ben. In about three days.I used stencil transfer paper to turn my design sketches into a real tattoo stencil, and Ben practiced his techniques on bananas and fake skin replacement slabs. After hours and hours of stress and building torment, I decided it was time to put Ben’s new skills, or lack thereof, to the real test. The real tattoo test. Fingerboarding vs. Skateboarding | Learning a Kickflip Out There 2023-11-19 | Ben’s been skateboarding since he was 8 years old. He loves it and honestly, he’s pretty good. He also used to have a Tech Deck fingerboard when he was younger, but he never really got into it. It’s been decades since his fingers gripped a board. Julie learned how to skateboard about a year and a half ago. Six months into working on her balance and just barely executing an ollie, she face planted off her board and fractured her skull, causing a brain bleed and taking her out of the game for months. She hasnt really been back on a board since, and she has a lot of PTSD to overcome.This week, we pit Ben’s beginner fingers against Julie’s beginner feet, in the ULTIMATE KICKFLIP CHALLENGE. A pioneer cemetery, from the 1800’s, in a ghost mining town, in the dark, in the desert, alone. Just the three of us alone, and well hopefully some other spirits. So maybe not totally alone. We are not professional paranormal investigators, just struggling entertainers, and this is our first ghost hunting experience. So please, JUDGE US ENDLESSLY, as we know you will. In preparation for our ghostly rendezvous, we did some research and discovered that Silver Reef, UT was a booming silver mining town in the late 1800’s complete with dozens of saloons and gamblers. As with any mining town, deaths were frequent and not out of the ordinary between drunken brawls and shoot outs, mine collapses, and of course rampaging diseases like tuberculosis. Some visitors to the cemetery have reported hearing disembodied voices, children laughing, unexplained footsteps, and even sightings of a young girl’s apparition.We brought along plenty of cameras, audio recording devices, and other supplies in an attempt to communicate with any present ghosts in the Silver Reef Catholic Pioneer Cemetery outside of Leeds, Utah. I Dont Wanna be a Kook | Surfing the West Coast Out There 2023-09-20 | We did it! We finally got Ben on a surfboard on the west coast, a moment Ben’s been waiting years for. This surf trip was the amalgamation of a lot of hard work, money saving, and detailed planning finally coming to fruition. And then it was all of those plans blowing up in our faces at the last minute and us scrambling to piece something new together from the rubble! From bad weather and tiny waves to my massive fear of the ocean and trying to learn how to surf, this adventure was one for the books. We got to see the underground surf community of Port Angeles, got a little taste of the stoke, and even snuck in an unexpectedly large amount of personal growth, mixed with a lot of salt water to the face.
