Calibrating Your Printer for Perfect Color with Jared Platt Calibrite 2019-11-07 | Learn More about i1Photo Pro 2 xritephoto.com/i1photo-pro-2#Notes by the author Jared Platt -Getting perfect prints out of your printer starts with knowing you have the correct color and that is dependent on scientific calibration. Without calibration, it is impossible to know if what you are seeing on your monitor is correct and similarly, without calibration, it is impossible to get your printer to print what you are seeing on your monitor. Calibration comes in the form of ICC color profiles for both your monitor and your printer (and the paper you are printing on). Once you have a monitor calibrated, the job is only half done. You now know what you are looking at is correct, but you still need to have a printer/paper profile that will translate what you are seeing on your monitor to that same color and contrast on the printed page. Paper manufacturers go to great lengths to provide accurate color profiles for their papers for almost every major photo printer on the market. And when you buy a printer and install the printer driver, the paper profiles for that printer brand’s paper will also be installed. This is the easiest way to have a good calibration for your printer and the paper you use to print your photos. A more accurate way to provide your computer with the definitions of color it needs to match your prints to what you are seeing on the monitor is to create your own printer paper profiles with the i1Pro by xRite. With the i1 Pro, you can create perfectly accurate profiles that will ensure that your prints are not only accurate but that you can also use to preview your prints before you print through soft-proofing. In this video, I will show you how to create a printer paper profile and how to install downloaded paper profiles and how to use them in Lightroom for soft-proofing. You can create a monitor profile that includes the contrast ratio of your paper so that your monitor will not only show you perfect color, but it will feel just like the paper you are about to print on. Especially if you are always printing on the same paper and have a dedicated printing station, calibrating your printing station’s monitor to a particular paper will give you immediate feedback in your editing as though you are editing your images directly on your inkjet paper. This is also useful if you are always printing on a particular paper through a print house, either as individual prints or on press paper for books. Using your paper calibrations to limit the contrast ratio in your monitor profiles will take the guesswork out of your editing and printing workflow. Watch the video and give it a try. You will need an X-Rite monitor calibrating device like the i1Display Pro or i1 Photo Pro 2 that will allow you to make custom monitor profiles.

Calibrite 2019-09-03 | Notes by the author Jared Platt -It doesn’t matter how much you spent on your monitor, or how beautiful it looks, if you haven’t calibrated your monitor, you cannot trust the color, contrast or brightness you are seeing. If you are editing your images on a non-calibrated monitor, you are wasting your time. They may look great to you, but there is very little chance that they will look beautiful in print. In fact, every time I talk to someone who doesn’t like their prints when I ask them what tools they use to calibrate their monitor, they look at me with either confusion or shame. Either they didn’t know they needed to calibrate, or they did know, but just skipped this critical step in photography. And make no mistake, the process of calibration is as important as anything else you do in your photo workflow. Your monitor can tell you the truth, or it is telling you a lie and if you are editing your images (adding warmth, contrast, brightness) based on an inaccurate representation of your photo, you are guessing at best! Take all the guesswork out of your photo editing by calibrating your monitor. In this video, I will show you how to use xRite calibration tools to get perfect color out of your monitor, including a detailed description of what each of the settings is doing in the calibration process.
