True story from Greek Mythology. True as in, it's a canon Greek tale. Selene, Goddess of the Moon, begged Zeus to make her shepherd love, Endymion, immortal. But there was a twist...

Our narrative unfurls in the nascent days of the Jurassic period, approximately 193 million years in the past, within the bounds of what we now acknowledge as North America. The Dilophosaurus, a creature of notable stature, rose to a height of 10 feet, its length extending to 20 feet, and its mass approaching 1 ton. Its nomenclature, "double-crested lizard," speaks to the twin crests of bone perched upon its skull—believed to be more a flourish of courtship than instruments of combat.
Yet, it was not these biological adornments that catapulted the Dilophosaurus into the spotlight of popular culture, but rather its dramatic portrayal in the cinematic tour de force, Jurassic Park. Here, the Dilophosaurus was reimagined as a venom-spitting entity adorned with a vibrant frill—attributes absent from the paleontological record, but indelibly linked to its cinematic avatar.
The portrayal of the Dilophosaurus in the Jurassic Park franchise, including its venom-spitting capability and the iconic neck frill, was purely a work of fiction created for dramatic effect. In both the original Jurassic Park novel by Michael Crichton and the subsequent film adaptation directed by Steven Spielberg, the Dilophosaurus is depicted as having these traits. However, there is no scientific evidence to suggest that the real Dilophosaurus, which lived during the Early Jurassic period, had either of these capabilities.

Next up, meet the Jaekelopterus, or 'Water Scorpion,' the largest arthropod to have ever existed. This sea creature, stretching up to 2.5 meters, was an ambush predator, preying on unsuspecting fish and smaller sea creatures.
And just when you thought it couldn't get any worse, meet the Eurypterid, a group of creatures also known as 'sea scorpions.' Not all Eurypterids were as colossal as Jaekelopterus, but they were just as fearsome.
Many species had large, pincer-like claws and stingers, reminiscent of their land-dwelling namesakes. The largest of these reached up to 2 meters in length, prowling the seabed and hunting down smaller marine life with ruthless efficiency.
Another marine leviathan of the era, the Cameroceras, often dubbed the 'camera squid,' swam the ancient waters.
This massive cephalopod, a relative of modern squids and octopuses, reached lengths up to 11 meters. Its long, conical shell provided protection, while its tentacles reached out to ensnare any prey that strayed too close.
These nightmarish underwater beasts add to the deadly menagerie of creatures that thrived in the seas before the reign of the dinosaurs.
Chapter 4: Man eating plants
Carnivorous plants, like the Venus Fly Trap, are believed to have evolved due to nutrient-poor environments. By trapping and digesting insects, they get essential nutrients not available in their soil. It's an impressive adaptation, but it is relatively recent in geological terms.
The fossil evidence of carnivorous plants is regrettably scant, largely due to the fragile nature of their physical structures, which do not readily lend themselves to preservation over the span of millions of years. However, considering the elevated oxygen levels of the period, combined with a lush insect ecosystem, there exists a compelling theory. It suggests the potential presence of colossal, carnivorous plants akin to Venus fly traps, lying in wait to ensnare unsuspecting prey across this prehistoric landscape. It's theorized that these giant plants could devour a man whole.
With each passing era, Earth has been home to a vast array of life forms, each more remarkable than the last. Long before the dinosaurs thundered across the continents, our planet was host to a wild array of monsters, from gigantic insects that patrolled the land and skies to ferocious, almost mythical sea creatures.
These ancient titans of the Carboniferous and Devonian periods underscore the raw and unbridled power of evolution, demonstrating that life before the dinosaurs was just as ruthless and captivating.
Our planet's prehistoric past was far more varied and intense than most of us realize, teeming with creatures that could rival, and perhaps surpass, the fearsome dinosaurs in terms of sheer terror and predatory prowess.
Join us again as we journey through time, unlocking the fascinating, sometimes terrifying, but always amazing secrets of our planet's history.

Giganotosaurus (meaning "giant southern lizard") is a genus of theropod that lived in Argentina during the Late Cretaceous period. It is currently one of the largest known meat-eating dinosaurs and the largest carnosaur to ever exist.
Spinosaurus (meaning "spine lizard") is a genus of spinosaurid dinosaur that lived in what now is North Africa, 99 to 93.5 million years ago.
This genus was known first from Egyptian remains discovered in 1912 and described by German palaeontologist Ernst Stromer in 1915. The original remains were destroyed in World War II, but additional material has come to light in the early 21st century.
It is unclear whether one or two species are represented in the fossils reported in the scientific literature. The best known species is S. aegyptiacus from Egypt, although a potential second species, S. maroccanus, has been recovered from Morocco.
The raptors of Skull Island were large dromeosaurs that stood with near-human posture to a height of about ten feet, and could weigh more than 1,000 pounds. Their skins were camouflaged patterns of yellow, brown, and green. Their main weapons were their fierce intelligence and their sickle-shaped re-curved hind claws...
Qianzhousaurus is a genus of tyrannosaurid dinosaurs that lived in Asia during the Late Cretaceous period.
The holotype specimen, GM F10004, was unearthed in southern China, Ganzhou, at the Nanxiong Formation in the summer of 2010 during the construction of an industrial park. The genus is known from a partial sub-adult individual consisting of a nearly complete skull with the lower jaws missing all teeth (lost during fossilization), 9 cervical vertebrae, 3 dorsal vertebrae, 18 caudal vertebrae, both scapulocoracoids, partial ilia, and the left hindlimb compromising the femur, tibia, fibula, astragalus with calcaneum, and metatarsals III and IV.
The generic name, Qianzhousaurus, is in reference to Qianzhou (the older name of Ganzhou) where the remains were discovered, and the specific name, sinensis, is derived from the Greek Σῖναι (sin, sino, sinai) in reference to China. The fossil remains were discovered by workmen at a construction site near the city of Ganzhou, who then took them to a local museum.
