I’m happy to share my new AI-assisted short film, “The Colorless Man.” This film took 2 weeks to complete during my free time, with a budget of $600 USD. I used various AI tools to explore how far AI-assisted film production has come.
Based on estimates from other producers and filmmakers, a film like this would typically cost between $300K and $500K without AI, depending on the scale of production. It would also require around 70 people and at least 2 months of work. Thanks to AI, this was reduced to just 1 person, $600 USD, and 2 weeks of non-continuous work.
First, I wrote the story and screenplay, then I used various AI tools to turn my script into visuals. I used ChatGPT, MidJourney, and Dreamina for images; Kling AI for videos; ElevenLabs for voices; Dreamina AI for lip sync; Suno AI for music; and MMAudio or ElevenLabs for sound effects.

To counter this danger, male blue-lined octopuses have developed a survival strategy: they deliver a precise bite near the female's aorta, injecting TTX and temporarily paralyzing her before attempting to mate. This behavior is particularly notable as many octopus species exhibit sexual dimorphism and instances of females cannibalizing smaller males, leading to the evolution of various male survival tactics such as elongated mating arms or the ability to detach an arm to facilitate escape. However, blue-lined octopuses lack these features, making their venomous bite a crucial adaptation.
Both sexes have TTX in their saliva for predation and defense, but males have disproportionately larger posterior salivary glands, where the toxin is produced. This suggests a co-evolutionary link between protection, predation, and mating success in males.
Tank observations showed that females quickly became immobilized after males clasped them, displaying breathing cessation, paleness, constricted pupils, and loss of reflexes, indicating TTX envenomation, though none died. After regaining control, the females pushed the males away, and small, swollen lumps with wounds near their aortas confirmed the venomous bite.

Researchers discovered this effect while studying how deoxyribose, a naturally occurring sugar in DNA, heals wounds in mice. During those trials, they observed faster fur regrowth around treated wounds. This led to a focused study in which male mice had fur removed from their backs and were treated daily with a deoxyribose-based gel.
The gel triggered robust hair regrowth comparable to minoxidil, one of only two FDA-approved drugs for androgenic alopecia. The researchers believe the sugar may increase blood flow to hair follicles, a known factor in stimulating growth. Their biodegradable, non-toxic gel outperformed a placebo and matched minoxidil's 90% regrowth success rate in mice. A combination of both treatments did not enhance results further. No testing has yet been done on female mice or humans.
Current drugs like finasteride, which blocks testosterone conversion, can cause side effects and aren’t approved for women. The sugar gel could offer a simpler and safer option, especially for cases where minoxidil or finasteride is ineffective or poorly tolerated. Photographic evidence showed visible differences over a 20-day trial period. Still, the mechanism behind the sugar gel's effectiveness remains unclear. Researchers observed more blood vessels and skin cells near the application site, which could explain the growth.

Colossal says this milestone demonstrates its de-extinction technology works and provides a foundation for future projects, including the woolly mammoth, Tasmanian tiger, and dodo.
Despite the groundbreaking achievement, scientists and ethicists are divided on what counts as a true de-extinct species. The current animals are about 99.9% gray wolf, and while they look like dire wolves, some argue that physical resemblance alone doesn’t qualify them as true resurrection. As apex predators of their time, dire wolves likely played a crucial role in their ecosystems, preying on megafauna such as horses, bison, and ground sloths. The extinction of the dire wolf coincided with the Quaternary extinction event, which saw the decline and disappearance of many of these large herbivores, possibly impacting the dire wolves' food sources and contributing to their eventual disappearance.

The afterlife was the ultimate goal of every Egyptian burial, a realm known as Aaru, or the Field of Reeds, where the soul would live in peace, surrounded by lush fields, flowing rivers, and an abundance of food. But entry into this paradise was not guaranteed. The deceased had to pass through the Hall of Judgment, where their heart was weighed against the feather of Ma’at, the symbol of truth and justice. If the heart was lighter than the feather, the soul was granted eternal life in Aaru. If it was heavier, corrupted by wrongdoing, it was devoured by Ammit, the soul-eating beast, and the person would cease to exist. To aid the deceased in this journey, tombs were filled with offerings, spells, and even shabti figurines, small servant statues that would perform labor on their behalf in the afterlife. They were a symbolic workforce, ready to answer whenever the dead were summoned to work for Osiris in the Field of Reeds.
Every element of the burial was designed to prepare the deceased for this final test, ensuring their transition from the mortal world to eternal existence among the gods in the paradise of Aaru.

The inner coffin, the first actual wooden coffin, enclosed the mummy and was usually made of wood or cartonnage. It was richly decorated with inscriptions, religious texts, and symbolic artwork reinforcing beliefs in resurrection. Some were shaped to resemble the deceased, allowing their soul to recognize its body in the afterlife.
Enclosing the inner coffin was the outer coffin, the largest wooden coffin, often adorned with hieroglyphs, divine imagery, and protective spells. Pharaohs and high-ranking officials sometimes had these outer coffins covered in gold leaf, signifying their royal and divine status. The inscriptions and religious symbols were meant to aid the deceased on their journey through the underworld, ensuring safe passage to the afterlife.
All of these wooden coffins were then placed inside a stone sarcophagus, which was sealed with a heavy lid. This massive stone cover protected the burial from tomb robbers, environmental damage, spiritual threats, and physical decay. Many lids were inscribed with prayers, spells, and the name of the deceased to ensure their identity remained intact in the afterlife. Some featured elaborate carvings of protective deities, meant to watch over the body inside.
Many sarcophagi were engraved with images of Nut, the sky goddess, symbolizing her embrace as the deceased transitioned into the afterlife. The base of the sarcophagus served as the final resting place, often carved with protective spells and religious imagery. Some even contained small compartments for funerary goods or inscriptions explaining the journey to the next world.

In some periods, particularly during the Roman era in Egypt, mummification also included the use of mummy portraits. These were realistic painted depictions of the deceased, created on wooden panels and placed over the face of the wrapped mummy. Each of the four canopic jars was dedicated to a specific organ and protected by one of the Four Sons of Horus. The Imsety jar, with a human-shaped lid, held the liver and was under the protection of the goddess Isis. The liver was important because it was believed to filter impurities from the body. The Hapy jar, which had a baboon-shaped lid, contained the lungs and was guarded by the goddess Nephthys. The lungs were preserved to maintain the breath of life in the afterlife. The Duamutef jar, topped with a jackal-shaped lid, stored the stomach and was under the protection of the goddess Neith. The stomach was crucial for digestion and sustenance in the next world. The Qebehsenuef jar, with a falcon-shaped lid, held the intestines and was watched over by the goddess Serqet, ensuring the organ's preservation for the afterlife.
To keep these jars safe, they were housed in a canopic chest, a decorated wooden or stone container placed near the sarcophagus. This chest symbolized the unity of the body and spirit, reinforcing the idea that the deceased remained whole even in death. Some chests were elaborately painted with divine imagery and protective spells, ensuring the organs remained preserved and the spirit undisturbed.

The heart, unlike these organs, was often left inside the body, as it was essential for the final judgment before Osiris. If the heart was missing or damaged during mummification, embalmers placed a beetle-shaped amulet, known as a 'heart scarab.' This amulet was placed inside the body as a replacement or within the tomb. Inscribed with spell 30 from the Book of the Dead, it was meant to help the deceased pass the test of the afterlife, where their heart was weighed. Every component of the burial had a role to play—nothing was left to chance in the preparation for eternity.

The dodo was a large bird, bigger than a turkey, weighing about 23 kg (50 pounds). It had blue-gray plumage, a large head, a 23-cm (9-inch) blackish bill with a hooked red tip, small useless wings and a tuft of curly feathers on its rear. The Réunion solitaire may have been a white variant of the dodo, while the Rodrigues solitaire was taller and more slender, with a smaller head, a short bill lacking a heavy hook, and wings with knobs.
Portuguese sailors first documented the dodo around 1507, and Dutch sailors arrived on Mauritius in 1598, marking the beginning of its decline. The last confirmed sighting of a dodo was in 1662, with scientists estimating its extinction around 1690 through statistical analysis. While some attribute its extinction to overhunting by sailors, the dodo's extinction was primarily caused by invasive species brought by humans. These included ship rats, domestic dogs, cats, and pigs, which competed with the dodos for food and preyed on their eggs. The dodo's lack of flight and inexperience with predators made it especially vulnerable. The introduction of invasive species disrupted the island's delicate ecosystem, leading to the irreversible loss of the dodo.
The dodo has become a symbol of extinction, revealing the impact of human activities on nature, the fragility of ecosystems, and the permanent loss of species. No other extinct bird has captivated our imagination quite like the dodo. Genetic advances are making de-extinction possible and could someday allow extinct species to potentially be revived. The dodo’s genome, sequenced in 2016, sparked debates about bringing the dodo back. However, this raises ethical concerns about altering natural history and the potential ecological impacts.
