OrcaTorch H02 underwater camera tray review MDTV3 2022-11-24 | Review of the H02 underwater camera tray from OrcaTorch using my GoPro and two D530V video lights (I also have a separate review of the video lights).The tray is made out of aluminium and hard anodised black, I am also reviewing the ZJ13 ball camps. The tray is a nice, large tray that would suit larger cameras than the GoPro, there is also a H02 package where you get extension arms and more equipment.My only complaint was there was little thought given to the screws coming loose, you definitely need to use some loctite on this tray to keep it all together.

Obviously a purpose made video light will work better but will also cost a lot more (especially if you already own a BX2).There are two different diffusers made for the 2 different torches that Dive Rite offer.
OrcaTorch SD03 Dive Beacon review MDTV3 2022-07-18 | The OrcaTorch SD03 Dive Beacon is the big brother to the SD01. The SD03 is a brighter beacon than the SD01 and the SD03 has a white LED placed at the front that acts as a torch and will also strobe. The illumination of the beacon covers a larger area and there are 3 colour options that you can switch all 3 colours will either burn solid or will strobe.The SD03 is a far better beacon than the SD01 and with the added benefit of being a small torch it wins hands down.

Crayfish (lobster) Dive May 2022, Portsea Back Beach (Victoria, Australia) MDTV3 2022-05-28 | Got out while the well was low & managed to get close to the back beach, first dive was around 7-10m. Beautify country, only seen a small cray (~1kg) before the end of the dive. The second dive was approx. mid 20m seen plenty of crays (lobsters), both my buddy & I fluffed a couple, always fun to watch back. Came across a big buck 3.5kg towards the end of the dive out in the open, doesn't happen too often, although I have caught 3 like that this season.There were 4 crays caught on the day, nice day out on the water.

More underwater video of the OrcaTorch D700 vs the Dive Rite BX2 MDTV3 2021-01-05 | I've had a few questions about why I like the Dive Rite BX2, given it's tight beam angle and lower power in comparison to the OrcaTorch D700, I actually prefer the very tight beam angle of the BX2 for rock lobster hunting, there is less chance for me to accidently scare the lobster and if I need a torch with a wider beam angle I will usually use my video light on wrecks etc.The OrcaTorch D700 is a good all rounder and packs a punch, if you don't love the tight beam angle of the BX2 or you prefer something that casts more light and you only want to have one torch to do mulitple tasks then the D700 would be a good choice.Both torches are really good, but they are different, so you should pick the one that best suits your needs.
Dive Rite BX2 dive torch review & testing updated MDTV3 2020-12-19 | The Dive Rite BX2 is my favourite dive torch and due to an unfortunate accident my original BX2 is on the bottom of the ocean :(Since I like the BX2 so much I had no problems in purchasing another, the new BX2 with a different battery & a charger that was no longer USA only.So I thought I'd do a quick review video comparing the old to the new BX2 battery, I also threw in a comparison against the more powerful OrcaTorch D700. Anyone would be happy with either torch, I just love the funky hand grenade style body of the BX2.

Upgrading the fabric on my scuba diving catch bag (crayfish / lobster) MDTV3 2020-09-19 | I have two Ocean Pro catch bags and the material is pretty light, one of the bags was pretty shredded after having some large crayfish / lobster go to work on it, so I decided to replace the fabric as the rest of the catch bag was OK.I started looking around for what fabric I could buy that would be strong, I had a look in stores like Spotlight for fabric but it was all too light.Then I saw people advertising offcuts of ripstop used to make horse rugs, so I thought I'd give it a go, the fabric is extremely heavy, don't bother trying a modern sewing machine on this, get an old beast made of steel!I made the new bag a bit longer & rotated the bait pocket so that it didn't wrap around when the bag was folded.
Oceanic Reliant Inflator repair ( Scuba diving self inflating BCD ) MDTV3 2020-08-17 | A quick video to show how to repair a self inflating Oceanic Reliant BCD inflator.It's probably a good idea to replace the whole inflator unit if you have trouble, it comes with new rubber washers for the dump valve, as you can see from the video mine are showing wear (these have not been replaced since purchased). I like how they even include the cable ties in the replacement kit.The main aim of this repair was to have a spare (save a dive), I have 2 BCDs that have the same inflator, so it is handy for me to have a spare on hand.It's also interesting to see how the device is made & how it works.

Scuba diving with an underwater GPS (sorta) mobile phone in waterproof case & GoPro GPS MDTV3 2019-10-25 | Have you ever wanted a GPS that you could take diving with you, now GPS doesn't work underwater (unless you have a tether to the surface) but you can use a GPS device on the surface, so you can pin point where you entered and where you exited the water.You can deploy the GPS to the surface on a DSMB and then retrieve it to get your current location. This is limited, but you can do a bit with this low tech solutionYou don't need a sim card or the internet to use the GPSThis project was spurred on when I was doing a shore dive and came across a magnificent gorge in relatively shallow water, I haven't been able to find that spot again & I'd love to take some buddies back to that spot, if only I had this GPS with me on that day.

Video footage inside the J5 Submarine wreck on a nice day MDTV3 2018-11-11 | This video footage is not colour corrected or adjusted (only the stops to check on my buddy have been edited out). We start at the back of the submarine and swim through to the conning tower area where there are plenty of Pinkies (juvenile Snapper) and whiting, it's a great view as you can see through the hull, then proceeded to swim as far forward before turning around to head back out the back. We both tried a narrow opening on the bulk head on the way back, it was easy for me with a single tank, however my buddy with twin tanks couldn't make it & had to go through the large opening. Disassembling & cleaning a Bare (SiTECH Shell) Drysuit Inflator valve sticks/gummy MDTV3 2017-01-16 | My Bare (SiTECH Shell) Drysuit Inflator valve has become a little gummy, the press button doesn't return instantly. (Had an issue with some salt water ingress). Thought I'd take it apart & clean it so that it worked properly. Found that one O-ring was needing to be replaced (I have to order an O-ring service kit) but for now a good clean & lube got the inflator working properly again. They can be a little fiddly to open (there is a special tool of course) but if you work on the inside of the Drysuit there is a far amount of surface area for you to work on just by hand. I hope this helps gets someone out of trouble, don't forget to get the proper service kit & utilise your LDS.Disassembling & cleaning a that sticks & feels a bit gummy

DIY FLAT PACK Dog House (kennel) made from shipping pallets & free tin MDTV3 2016-08-19 | Check out my Dog house, I grabbed heaps of old shipping pallets & cleaned them up, glued up lengths to make panels, cut the bearers to use as structural supports.This is a big dog house over 1.1m x 900mmThe tin sheet for the roof came as a protector sheet on a delivery to site (this is a throw away item) it was in good enough condition to reuse for the dog house. I also re-purposed a fascia sheet into a ridge cap.
