All of the street food featured in this quick video guide to Krabi cost $1 or $2 per serving.
Foodie Travel Notes:
Krabitown: Lots of local restaurants for Thai Chinese, seafood, and spicy southern Thai dishes. Night market is not open very late and offerings seem average.
Ao Nang: Not as high quality as Krabitown, until you hit the outskirts. Lots of roti everywhere. Plenty of street food on main roads to be found. Small muslim walking street, but didn't have much happening when I visited. Lots of western food, but you need to be weary of sanitation everywhere.
Railay: The food is pretty mediocre here, FYI. Go for the beaches, monkeys, rock climbing, and other adventure sports instead. Spend some time on Tonsai beach and visiting the surrounding islands.
Got questions about Krabi, Ao Nang, or halal food in Thailand? Leave them in the comments below.

Soul Food 555 is located in the first floor food court of The Commons Community Mall in Thonglor. This is not to be confused with the parent restaurant "Soul Food Mahanakorn" located near the start of Soi Thonglor (Sukhumvit 55). The "555" is the Thai number "ha" which is pronounced "ha ha ha" and is the Thai version of LOL, especially when communicating with each other online.
The restaurant offers quick fire Thai favorites like krapow (with pork belly, australian lamb, or steak), but they've made a name for themselves on the popularity of their sandwiches. They offer three sandwiches and we tried them all!
They included the Khao Soi Cowboy (a khao soi sandwich - 250 THB), the "Risky Chicken" (fried chicken and papaya salad sandwich - 250 THB) and "The Fatso" (deep fried soft shell crap with Thai mango salad - 350 THB).
All of the sandwiches were delicious and piled onto great bread that soaks up the spice and curry from the sauces. However, the combination of papaya salad and fried chicken just exceptional. If you plan to give it a try, I'd go for that one!

Pad Thai Directions (วิธีทำผัดไทย):
Heat large wok on high. Add 1 tbsp oil, shallots, meat, dried shrimp and 2 oz. tofu. Cook for approximately 3 minutes until browned and protein is cooked all the way through, remove meat and set aside. Add in ½ tbsp garlic, 4oz. noodles, 1 cup sauce stirring vigorously until noodles soften. You can add in a little bit of water to help soften. Throw in ½ cup bean sprouts, pinch of garlic chives, and mix thoroughly.
Push your noodles over to one side of the wok, leaving one side clear and crack 1 egg directly into opening, scramble and cook to 80% -- do not fold in. Turn down heat to low. Fold noodles over and set directly on top of egg, about 30 seconds to finish cooking. Remove from heat. Plate noodles, add extra Chives, peanuts, chili flakes and lime wedges on top for garnish.

Nakhon Prathom is located about an hour from Bangkok (well depending on traffic) to the west. It makes an excellent day trip and in this video you'll see exactly why!
If you ever go to downtown Nakhon Prathom, the temple will be pretty easy to find because the steeple (พระปฐมเจดีย์), called a "chedi", is the largest Buddhist Chedi in the world. Take some photos, go walk around it and pray or admire the statues, just be nearby when evening hits and the parking lot starts to fill up. Thats when this place comes alive with several exemplary Thai street food vendors, as it has for year into the past. The place is especially festive and food filled during Thai holidays and I have visited several times.
In this video there's lots of street food with the natural sound of the night market (besides me cursing into the wind in excitement which I cut out). You'll here the bizarre and old fashioned music and announcement, as well as the vendors calling out to other Thai street food crazed people as they walk by.
I tried to leave a lot of captions for y'all and this video is in 4K so it took forever to upload. If you'd like details about a specific treat in the market, be sure to leave a comment and I will reply. Thanks for watching!

We finally say goodbye to grandma in this episode, but not before meeting more surprise grandparents, aunts, and cousins. We visit the families rice fields and gardens, we receive the traditional “bai-si-su-kwan” blessing where the elders wrapped strings around our wrists before leaving.
We begin the 455km journey to Sukhothai using backroads taking us cross country. The most beautiful province we drove through was Loei, where there were many stops in the mountains with farmers (where we stopped the farmers were Hmong) selling fresh produce like strawberries, gooseberry, dried fruits, and drinks.
We arrived to Sukhothai in the evening and checked into Ma Room Place, a small hotel between new and old Sukhothai areas. Our rooms were modern and clean, costing around 700 THB per night, but the beds were uncomfortable.
Google Map: goo.gl/maps/zvwGHXzX8C42
Then we left the hotel and headed for downtown, but arrived after many of the more popular street food stalls had already closed. See the map link below for a pin near the street food area.
Google Map: goo.gl/maps/Yt4U881Yuj32
The final stop of the night was the Dream Cafe. The restaurants sells run of the mill Thai food, but it was especially interesting because they offer several flavors of yadong, the traditional herbal whiskey. The different flavors of the whiskey come from the different herbs steeped inside each brew and are believed to be everything from an aphrodisiac to a energy booster. However, the drink is very bitter and the whiskey can be very strong. The hilarious names make this a better dare among friends than just your average post dinner digestif. The shots were 75 baht ($2.16) per glass.

In the third episode of our Issan road trip we visit a few more places before finally arriving at grandma's house in Nong Khai.
Stop 1: Wat Nong Waeng (พระมหาธาตุแก่นนคร) in Khon Kaen, Thailand
After eating three breakfasts (see the previous episode) we wandered around the lake in Khon Kaen (called Bueng Kaen Nakhon or บึงแก่นนคร). There you'll find a few parks that are more active in the evening that when we visited. Nearby you'll find one of the oldest temples in the area, Wat Nong Waeng. Although the temple has undergone significant renovations and doesn't have much of a rustic feel, it still remains one of the most important temples in the area.
Google Map: goo.gl/maps/QrYdmqHjxC12
Stop 2: Thai - Chinese Cultural Center in Udon Thani, Thailand (ศูนย์วัฒนธรรมไทย-จีน)
Part museum and part park, this cultural center goes out of it's way to preserve Thai Chinese history and traditions. Drop by to catch one of the cultural shows, feed the fish in the giant pond at the center of the compound, or just relax with some Chinese buns. Food in the coffee shop is average, but we weren't very hungry.
Google Map: goo.gl/maps/f5puDRfug8z
Stop 3: Na Kha Clothing Market near Udon Thani, Thailand (ตลาดผ้านาข่า)
Small town centered around a temple and large clothing market. There's a few odd items here, so make sure you explore around for some of the more interesting products.
Google Map: goo.gl/maps/wE9naphtyUu
Stop 4: Nong Khai, Thailand (Tha Bo District)
After getting lost a bit, we finally arrived deep in the country side at Christy's grandmother's house. We spent the night catching up and chatting about their family history. This was a special time reuniting with her grandmother who she was only meeting for the second time.

Flashback Recap of Day 2: Arriving in Ban Phe
Or you can watch the full episode here: youtu.be/c7UJW5PiNNI
Stop #1: Ban Phe Market (ตลาดบ้านเพ) at 0:42
Formerly known as the 'roi sao market' (ตลาดร้อยเสา or hundred vendors market) the latest incarnation of this large market names it the Ban Phe Supermarket (ตลาดบ้านเพ). This is a good place to grab everything from little souvenirs to durian chips, to stinky fermented fish paste. The best thing is it can also make a great stop for lunch or stocking up on snacks before hitting the beach.
We particularly enjoyed some of the old time Thai style snacks including:
1. "tong muan oon" or "khao kriap oon" or ข้าวเกรียบอ่อน) which is the sesame dotted and crepe like dessert
2. "Kraton loy gaew" (กระท้อนลอยแก้ว) or "Kraton chae em" aka candied and pickled santol fruit, which was served with shaved ice
3. Traditional Thai Popsicles with all sorts of interesting flavors like durian, coconut, and Thai tea.
Rating: 3.5/5
Pros: Large, clean, organized, and friendly
Cons: Food court options limited and shrinking
Google Map: goo.gl/maps/Eq7wFZoXYMw
Stop #2: Ban Phe City at 4:41
The main city through the road is a one way street worth exploring on foot. There are so many people who are using the front of their homes as a shop to sell fresh food or snacks. We stopped and chatted with some uncles and aunties when the kids spotted their grilled squid.
One of the snacks we spotted while tasting squid eggs was 'jaeng lon' which was featured in an earlier episode here:
youtu.be/LUfDlogF3Nc
Overall I enjoyed exploring here more than in the market. Be on the lookout for the extended motorbikes used as taxis to get passengers around town.
Rating: 4/5
Pro: Friendly, Interesting architecture, lots of snacks and fresh fish for sale
Con: Need to have your own transport to really explore
Google Map: goo.gl/maps/2qw4HogkzAS2
Stop #3: Suan Son Beach (หาดสวนสน) at 8:26
Laid back Thai beach about 15-20 mins from downtown Ban Phe. The beach is popular with locals and you can chill in the shade with beer and seafood from restaurants right on the shore. There are also tubes for rent and banana boats (I suggest having a local negotiate the price). Also keep in mind it does cost to sit at the tables they provide, but shouldn't be much. We paid around 100 baht for our chair and tables. There are restrooms and showers in the area where you pay a small fee to enter.
Rating: 3.5/5
Pros: Friendly, Chill, Vendors not Pestering
Cons: Food/alcohol options limited, murky water

Flashback Recap of Day 1: Rainy Day Issan Food
Or you can watch the full episode here: youtu.be/7vMe1iP6A1w
Stop #1 - Jae for Health Restaurant (ร้านอาหารเจ เพื่อสุขภาพ) at 1:47
I have reviewed this restaurant in the past here:
http://bkkfatty.com/2014/04/08/one-dollar-vegetarian-buffet-and-noodle-restaurant-in-rayong
Humble and cheap vegetarian restaurant in the heart of Rayong. We often visit for a quick and healthy breakfast. For the best food, come early. Vegetarian noodles are hard to find, but I think this restaurant does a great job of them and even their fake meat isn't bad with a little seasoning.
Rating: 4/5
Pros: Clean, cheap, and they speak a little English
Cons: Khao gaeng options can be hit or miss (especially if you're not there before 10am)
Google Map: goo.gl/maps/Vx4Nw1tYDxR2
Stop #2: Ban Phe City at 5:47
We didn't do a whole lot here except walking around. There is a small marina with a few restaurants around. There's an aquarium a little further off, but the largest attractions for visitors to Ban Phe are the beach and the market. If you're curious there's some interesting 70's Thai architecture in the area and hopefully you'll see more of the see in the following episode.

Stop 1: Roadside Issan Food at 1:18
This was just a little shack of a roadside restaurant in the middle of the nowhere. We stopped here for lunch after driving through some pretty scary rain at one point. Happy to be out of Bangkok and the rain, this was a typical road side stall you can find all over Thailand!
Rating: The kids rated this place 4 out of 5!
Stop 2: Casa V1 Hotel at 3:10
This is a small hotel and serviced apartment in downtown Rayong. It's a good place to know about because it's clean, has wifi, and is affordably priced.
Rating: 3.5/5
Pros: Clean, Free Wifi, Central
Cons: Bedding, Pillows, Noise
Stop 3: Issan Chok Larb Restaurant (ร้านอีสานโชคลาบยโสธร) at 5:52
Like much of Rayong you won't find many tourists or foreigners at all. So be prepared to experience some really local restaurants and this is one that's sought after and always busy! The place is popular for their hot pot, pork collar, and other tasty, spicy Northeastern Thai dishes.
Rating: 4/5
Pros: pork collar, soups, plenty of spice
Cons: really busy, need to order in Thai
Google Map: goo.gl/maps/ZXWSz8oCm9q
Stop 4: Shaved Ice Street Stall (ขนมหวาน 11991) at 8:26
Must try old school shaved ice. On this visit they were out of the big chunks of coconut flesh. Average bowl is $1 and there's nearly 30 or so ingredients to choose from.

This short episode takes place at Kitthi Duck Noodles on Udomsuk Road (Sukhumvit 103). The noodle shop is the third branch of the 60 year old business (the other shops are found in old Bangkok). Beyond the bowls of duck noodles or duck over rice, we challenge you have some tasty sides. This includes plates of duck feet and legs with super tender meat, and if you're really adventurous you can try the duck intestines which are served with a tangy and spicy sauce. You can order a plate of liver, which is like a poor man's foie gras!

Whether from traveling to Thailand of watching street food videos, people around the world are excited to try Thai khao soi (ข้าวซอยไก่). This hearty northern Thai dish wins people over by being full of tender stewed meat, aromas from the spices in the curry, and a colorful array of condiments. We wanted to recreate this recipe in the tradition of Thai food in Chiang Mai, our strongest clues for how khao soi was eaten in the past, and a sharp contradiction to the extra sweet and salty versions many restaurants and online recipes promote today.

Come join us and make your Thai food favorites like:
Pad Thai
"Thai Basil" or Krapow
Pad See Ew
Khao Soi
and more!
For the past two years Courageous Kitchen has been having fun while teaching youth at risk the benefits of eating better, and learning not to fear the heat and the stress of the kitchen.
Now we’re inviting you into our home to learn your favorite Thai dishes too!
Each day begins with a tour of a classic Bangkok market. We'll buy fresh ingredients for the class and give you an opportunity to ask questions of the vendors in the market. This will be a delight for the senses, as there's plenty to see, smell, and photograph. Watch as coconut milk is freshly pressed, and as our noodle vendor slices up fresh rice noodles for our dishes of the day. The selection of fruit will make your head spin and if culture shock hasn't hit yet, the meat section just might do it!
We may stop by a few of our favorite street food stalls to see them in action, but then it's back to our quiet Thai neighborhood to cook up a feast. We'll start by explaining some of the uses for the many ingredients we gathered from the market. Then we cook and eat until you've eaten so much it's uncomfortable to move!
Best of all this is not the average Bangkok cooking class. We strive to keep our class sizes small (6 or fewer) and are happy to customize the class to you liking. Have a special dish in mind? Curious about a certain street food? Let us know and we'll tailor the class to you!
Proceeds from this activity will go back into funding our activities feeding and educating at risk communities in Bangkok. We've got some ambitious goals stacked for our students who are quickly learning to out cook most adults! This activity is one way we'll be raising funds, but you can also donate and get more info at http://courageouskitchen.com

Welcome back Thai food fans, today we hit Victory Monument, Bangkok’s most iconic round a bout. The area is not only well know for epic traffic jams, but also for being a hotspot for street food. Most notable the tiny bowls of boat noodles that cost a few cents on the dollar, each. To help me throw down a few I’m joined by TJ who has a rapidly growing youtube channel where she posts great travel videos from all over the world.
Each boat noodle bowl costs 12 baht or $0.33 per bowl! That's ridiculously cheap, but in the past they cost even less, so the small portions hardly matter to hungry diners. Boat noodles are the style of blood broth noodle hailing from the era when most of life in Bangkok centered around the canals (aka khlong) that run through the city. Floating food vendors were common and the noodle stalls used small bowls they could pass to customers on land easily. So much has changed since then, but in order to show their authenticity to toward to the original way of making them, many stalls today serve them in similarly small bowls.
You have a few to choose from, but our favorite was the beef bowl. You get to choose your favorite noodle with it and there are a couple of crunchy things like pork rinds and fried wontons that you can add to your bowl for more texture.
This stall may be the most popular in Boat Noodle Alley and is over 20 years old. The full name of the restaurant is Sood Yod Kwaytheeo Reua Pa Yak (ร้านสุดยอดก๋วยเตี๋ยวเรือป๋ายักษ์) and the place is furiously busy and definitely unapologetically noisy!

Ratchawat market is a special place worth exploring, but can be a little difficult to get to. I recommend grabbing a taxi or uber from the Victory Monument or Phaya Thai station. The ride will cost about 60-100 baht and take 15 minutes or so. It's worth it to get to this old area of Bangkok, often less traveled by tourists than the bigger markets.
If you arrive at the right time there should be plenty to explore here including the food in the market itself, all the stalls that have spilled onto the market outside, and the row of restaurants facing the market on the same street. There you will find restaurants like Nai Joe Fish Noodles (ก๋วยเตี๋ยวลูกชิ้นปลาราชวัตร นายโจ้) and Sawatdee Pad Thai Noodles (ร้านหอยทอด ผัดไท สวัสดีราชวัตร).
Rating: 5/5

Little Hong Kong is a bustling Cantonese restaurant located inside "The Street" Mall and open 24 hours. Since it's open all night it makes a great stop after partying or to recover from a hangover with friends. The restaurant is known for it's Shabu menu, dim sum, and roast goose and opened a few branches in Bangkok after the success of it's original Chiang Mai venue.
The garlicky long beans with minced pork is easily oily, but easily one of the most satisfying dishes on the menu. The roast goose is delicious, but other meats could use an upgrade. Their dim sum is tasty, with the highlight being the deep fried and lava filled bao. There is more dim sum to choose from than what is featured in this video, but most of them range from 100 to 130 THB per serving.

If you know anyone who’s been to Chiang Mai, chances are they came back raving about Khao Soi. The creamy curry noodles are likely of Burmese origin, but have been made famous by Thais hawking them as the most authentic meal in Chiang Mai. While that’s debatable, for better or for worse these noodles are making their appearance on Thai food menus around the world. Still however, it can be quite hard to find a decent bowl of khao soi in Bangkok!
Look no further, Hom Duan Restaurant is here to help satisfy your Northern Thai cravings. In addition to the khao soi noodles, they operate as a khao gaeng restaurant where they make several dishes each day and sell them until they run out. Many of the family recipes the owners brought down from Chiang Mai have been improved here in Bangkok, making for some delicious renditions of Northern Thai favorites like gaeng hanglay, tham kanoon (pounded jackfruit), larb kua, or ngam ngiew noodles (50 baht). The rice and curry plates are charged by the number of items you have with rice. For example, one item is 45 baht and 4 items is 80 baht.
The restaurant is a short walk from the Ekkamai BTS (about 10 mins). They are open from 8:30am to 4:30pm every weekday and my protip is to get there before the lunch rush for the best meal!

In Thai 'rot fai' or 'rod fai' means Train, and that's the origin of the name of this market which originated along the train tracks near Chatuchak. The railroad location is no more, but the markets have exploded in a few locations in Bangkok. The most easy to reach is the Ratchada location of the Rot Fai market.
The market is essentially a giant night market, and is easily one of the most popular in Bangkok. There you'll find many vintage items, second hand sales, women's clothing, street food style dining options, and there's even western food available.
There aren't any prices included in this video, but all of the Thai food or dessert were less than 100 baht ($3). If you have questions about this market, food items seen in this video, or general Thai street food questions, be sure to leave them in a comment below.
The market is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, while it is open is one of the slowest days of the week so many of the vendors close for a second day. The market starts around 5pm and goes until midnight, with a few of the pubs staying open a little later.

Here's an odd Thai snack for you to try! The flimsy dumplings are made from spreading rice paper flour over the mouth of a steaming pot. When it begins to have texture a lid is places over the top to steam for a few minutes. The lid is removed, ingredients are added and the rice wrapper is cut in half. Finally the treat is moved from the mouth of the pot where it is packages with fried garlic and bird's eye chilies, all meant to be eaten in lettuce wraps. This is similar to a more popular dish called miang kham.
The lettuce wrap should give you a mix textures and flavors. Freshness from the lettuce, spice from the chili, crunchy onion flavor from the fried onions, and the savory sweetness of the peanut mixture at the center.
The most common filling for the center is a mix of spices, onions and peanuts, but some versions do also contain meats like pork and shrimp. The version in the video is only peanuts.
Most vendors serving this dish will also serve sacu sai moo (สาคูใส้หมู), a similar savory snack you may also want to try.

The reason no one can tell you where to buy it is because this isn't actually a Thai snack and it's not common. These stalls have only been popping up in the last three years and often only in very touristy places in Thailand. Anyone who claims this is an easy to find Thai street food doesn't really know what they're talking about---- but whatever just remember to get your butt over to the Rot Fai or Train Night Market (ตลาดรถไฟ) in Bangkok.
In the Train Market located in Ratchada there is a regular stall selling rolled ice cream. The name of the stall is Monsters ไอติมผัด or Monsters "Ice Cream Pad" (which if you're curious literally means stir fried ice cream). The stall is just like the ones you've seen in millions of youtube videos. You can customize your order with different ingredients like brownie, fake oreos, some nuts, etc... and there are 3-4 flavors of ice cream base to choose from.
The uniqueness of this dessert and it being somewhat hard to find gives it a lot of appeal. However, many of the ingredients in the ice cream aren't great or just there to make it look good (like no, you don't really need whipped cream, chocolate sauce, and candies on top---- but why THANK YOU I'll take it).
The cost for this custom rolled ice cream is about 69 baht ($2) and it takes about 5 minutes to make. Popular stalls can often have long lines when the market gets really crowded. However, if you're an ice cream or other dessert fanatic you will like this experience and ended up rating the Monsters Stall a 4/5.
Monsters ไอติมผัด Street Food Stall Review:
Rating: 4/5
Pros: Cheap, Customizable, Unique
Cons: Cheap Ingredients, Messy, Overly Sugary

Nearby Transit: MRT Thai Cultural Center Station
Note: There is more than one Train Market, this stall is located in the one in Ratchada. If you're unfamiliar with the area, you will find the market behind a shopping mall called Esplanade.

If you recognize this famous Bangkok restaurant, it’s because it went viral online after visits from Andrew Zimmern and Mark Wiens. The restaurant is run by P’ Soei who’s respected for mastering flavor packed Thai dishes by getting creative with popular Thai food favorites.
For example this is his perfectly fried ‘yum kai dao’ (ยำไข่ดาว)… it’s a sour and spicy egg salad that’ll blow your mind because it’s crispy and chili covered on the outside, with an oozing running egg yolk on the inside.
You also have to be on the lookout for Soei’s seafood specials which always bring a new level of yum to the local catch of the day…
And believe it or not, the chef who runs this place can even make this steamy plate of liver taste delicious!
The restaurant recently moved to a new location about 10 minutes away from the Ari skytrain station and you can find a link to this location in the description box below.
Remember Soei is best enjoyed with friends so you can taste a variety of dishes. Just but be sure you arrive with plenty of time to spare because the service is often slow. Don’t fret about that too much though because these tasty plates, which range from 150-250 baht each (or about $4 to $7), are definitely worth the wait!
We rated Soei a 4.5 on our recent visit and are already looking forward to our next chance to eat here. Have you tried it yet? If not, just feast your eyes on these fiery dishes… Now before you start drooling on the keyboard, like and share this video and well see you for the next Bangkok Bites eating tip!
Prices are 200-300 baht per dish on average. In a big group expect to pay 300-500 baht per person.

Today’s episode is coming to you from a hidden ice cream parlor in Bangkok.
You can find Scoopp, spelled with two p’s in a side alley on the way to Chinatown.
This homemade ice cream parlor has fun and funky Thai flavors, all for very reasonable prices. The consistency of the ice cream light and sorbet-like for most of their flavors and offer a set of premium ice cream flavors with a creamier texture you might expect from traditional ice cream.
The diversity of flavors won us over with 40+ to choose from, along with a selection of waffle cones on offer — oh yeah——- Bangkok could certainly use more unique creameries like this one around.
This would make a great stop after a late night meal near Chinatown and our overall rating is 4/5. Use the google map link below to find you way here and don’t forget to like and share this Bangkok Bites video with a fellow ice cream lover. Happy eating and thanks for watching!

This episode is the start of a road trip to the North eastern region of Thailand. The area borders Laos and is most typically known to people as ‘Isaan’ (อีสาน) meaning north-eastern. The region is the poorest in the country, but one of the most influential with it’s cuisine and culture, much of which originates from Laos. Popular dishes from this region as popular in Thai restaurants around the world included dishes like papaya salad, larb, and ever popular sticky rice you’re meant to eat it with.
Bangkok to Saraburi, Thailand = 120km
The road trip begins by first stopping at the Sunday Market in Saraburi (สระบุรี) called Baan Tontan Floating Market (ตลาดท่าน้ำโบราณบ้านต้นตาล). This market is better known as a floating market, although it is mostly just a riverside market where you can sit on mats on shaded pier next to the river. The market has all sorts of old school snacks (อาหารโบราณ), many of which are hard to find. The market isn’t as popular or well visited as others in the area, because it only happens on Sundays. Most items in the market cost about $1 per serving.
Baan Thontan (ตลาดท่าน้ำบ้านต้นตาล) Overall Rating: 4/5
Saraburi to Khon Kaen, Thailand = 350km
The next stop was in Khon Kaen (ขอนแก่น), which is considered a gateway city to Issan because it is a major transportation hub. The once sleepy city has in the past few years developed a much more interesting food scene with more restaurants and major malls popping up. We visited the Khon Kaen night market (ตลาดโต้รุ่งขอนแก่น) near the center of the city to try the food. The night market is a mix of shopping and food, featuring nearly 40 different food stalls. However, much of what is available is typical of other food courts and it can be hard to discover which of the many vendors are best to patronize. Most of the dishes in the market were in the $2 price range.

The day begins at Boopbap restaurant (ร้าน ปุ๊บปั๊บ), a local haunt known for it's duck grapow (กะเพราเป็ด). The restaurant is setup food court style and you can order about 6-7 dishes with duck or other protein. The restaurant is well known with locals, but I found the food here average. The average plate of duck grapow is 60 baht, or 70 baht with a fried egg on top.
Boopbap Restaurant Rating: 3/5

Second stop is known as the Chonburi Grand Canyon (แกรนด์แคนยอนชลบุรี or แกรนแคนยอน คีรี). This is easy by car from downtown Chonburi and you only need to pay for parking, as admission is free. The downside to the free admission is there is little to do and no amenities. However, the view is impressive and this can be a nice place if you plan your own picnic or are just on a photo taking excursion.

Grand Canyon Chonburi Rating: 4/5
The final stop before we has some camera issues was Bangsaen beach (หาดบางแสน). On the beach we spent 160 baht for a table with six chairs to relax on the beach. Most of the shore here is taken up with chairs and umbrellas and there is a boardwalk that has been carved out that is lined with food vendors. As you walk along the beach the style of vendors tend to repeat themselves, so there was much less choice than it looks like. The beach is semi clean with brown sand and murky waters. The hawkers coming around the sell things while you relax at your table can also be annoying.
Bangsaen Beach Rating: 2.5/5
Note: The blog was cut short a bit because of an issue with the camera, but I will cover more of Chonburi in a later episode.

Settled years ago by a large Chinese community, their presence is evident in the temples nearby, as with the restaurants. This video features:
1) Kanom jak ขนมจาก (sometimes spelled kanom jark) a taffy like substance made from sticky rice flour, coconut, and palm sugar. The sticky paste is bound in palm leaf and grilled until the edges are charred.
2) Hoy Jor หอยจ๊อ a Thai Chinese crab sausage made from wrapping crab meat in a tofu wrapper.
Note: These are sometimes made with pork in them, so try to ask first if you want to avoid it.

Stop 1: Old Ang Sila Market ตลาดเก่าอ่างศิลา
Map: goo.gl/maps/ou8FEdLM2Gw
The seafood here is often what supplies much of the restaurants in the area. While this isn’t much as a tourist attraction, the Old Ang Sila Market can get really busy as it has become a popular stopping point for Thai motorists. They are most often pulling up to the first part of the market to buy prepackaged and a few freshly prepared products to eat in the care or take home.
The snack tried in the market is called 'jaeng lon' or แจงลอน, but is basically tod mun (Thai fish cakes) in meatball skewer form. They appeared a bit dry, but were tastier than they looked. This is not a common snack and it was my first time to try, so be on the lookout for them to get more popular, as people are already familiar with the flavor.
Stop 2: Ang Sila Mortar and Pestle Vendors (on the main road beyond the market towards the town)
Stop 3: Nong Mon Market (15 mins from Ang Sila Market)

This is Day 2 in Chonburi and the second half will be uploaded soon, stay tuned.

Stoopid Burger is a Portland favorite and has one several awards for their burgers. For Portland's Burger Week last August Stoopid Burger added the Krazy Karl to their menu. The Karl has two types of cheese, french fries, onion rings and think drizzle of honey mustard to make it delicious and messy to eat. Overall Stoopid Burger is a great place to eat and their burgers range from $9-12. There's vegetarian options on the menu and even a $5 "Boring Burger" for purists who don't like many toppings.
You can find Stoopid Burger at the Sons of Haiti food pods on North Vancouver Ave between Ivy and Freemont roads. Find their facebook page at:

In this episode Dwight and Mark Wiens attend the launch of Chatri IPA with a "Man on the Moon" themed party. After sniffing around the guys find themselves with a plate of funky thai, indian, and otherwise pairings to go along with the two citrusy IPAs.
The briefly discuss the pairings with "M" a co-founder and brewer at Full Moon Brewworks, the creator of Chalawan (featured in a previous episode). Their new beer Chatri is an Aussie-Thai collaboration with Sydney's Stockade Brew Company. If you find it in Bangkok or Sydney give it a try!

Kuangsi Waterfalls is named for the deer (pronounced “kwang” in Lao) that inhabit the forest around the falls. To get there you need to travel 45min to and hour from Luang Prabang, but you won’t regret making the trip. To rent a skylab driver it costs about 160,000 kip which is about $20. You want to go early to avoid the heat and the crowds so arrive no later than 10am.
Note: There is a 10,000 kip toll on the road and it costs 20,000 kip for a ticket to enter Kuangsi National Park.
Then enjoy the pools below while no one is in them and if you’re energetic, have good shoes, and you’re up for a trek then venture up the falls to some hidden pools and the summit at the top. Be careful if it has recently rained as this can make the natural path extremely slippery. Overall I highly recommend Kuangsi Falls and there’s a black bear rescue center on the premises you can check out too.
