The winner of the Leica Oskar Barnack Award 2022 is the photographer Kiana Hayeri, born in Iran and brought up in Canada. For her series “Written on the Ice, Left in the Sun” she was awarded in the main category in the 42nd competition year of LOBA.
These pictures of everyday life were taken over the last four years; yet, with their direct documentary approach, they provide important insight into the serious changes that have been taking place in Afghanistan, since the withdrawal of Western troops in the summer of 2021. Within a few days, the Taliban destroyed everything that had been achieved for freedom of expression, women’s rights and education, and replaced it with fear and insecurity.

The Leica Oskar Barnack Award Newcomer 2022 goes to the German photographer Valentin Goppel. For his series “Between the Years” he was honoured in the young talent category of the LOBA.
Young adults in times of Corona: in his series, the German photographer explores the effects of the pandemic on his generation. He, too, had to experience the sudden break away from habits, and come to terms with the feelings of insecurity that determined every plan, as well as the future. Corona became a catalyst for progressive disorientation. Goppel’s pictures speak of the strange forlornness affecting an entire generation.

The more experience we gain, the better we become at knowing our brand’s personality, goals, and strengths.
This applies just as much to a single camera’s life cycle as it does for an entire product family — especially one as legendary as the Leica M.
Still, after almost 70 years, the Leica M-System preserves its ability to adapt to our times without compromising its core values.
Like no other Leica M camera, the analog Leica M6 is a tool that keeps evoking admiration from photographers around the world.

The serial production of the Leitz Camera, or Leica for short, the world's first 35mm camera, is considered a milestone in modern photography. Before the first cameras were available in the mid-1920s, Ernst Leitz produced around 23 models of the prototype 0 series in 1923 and 1924. One of these rare cameras – the 0-series no. 105 – has now been sold at the 40th Leitz Photographica Auction for a price of € 14.4 million including buyers' premium. The 105 has thus broken the world record for the most expensive camera of all time.
Firmware version 3.0 for the Leica Sl2-S enables the output of a Cinema 4K RAW video signal with up to 60 frames per second to an external recorder via HDMI This means that it is now possible to capture 12-bit RAW video files with recorders such as the Atomos Ninja V, Atomos Ninja V+ or Blackmagic Video Assist 12G HDR. The RAW files are perfectly clean and offer a maximum dynamic range, colour fidelity and detail rendition for a professional workflow.
Firmware version 3.0 for the SL2-S and version 4.0 for the Leica SL2 also offer some benefits in terms of ISO sensitivity settings, L-mount alliance lens functions and more.
Only those who change remain true to themselves
Photojournalist and entrepreneur Kathryn Boyd Brolin has always remained true to herself in her photography – and adaptable with it. After all, life is all about transformation. And probably the biggest change in the photographer's life came with the birth of her children. They taught Kathryn to adjust and hone her own perception. Now she experiences her rich surroundings as art. Inspired by her daughters – who she says make her a better photographer – she lets life guide her photography. This is impressively visible in her vivid photographs taken with the M11.
