SCALE (Supply Chain Automation of Loading/unloading for increased Efficiency) is a research and innovation project co-funded by the Swedish Energy Agency to support resource-efficient supply chains through innovation. Involving six partners – Chalmers University of Technology, University of Gothenburg, Einride, SKF, Toyota Material Handling, MariTerm –, the project is a collaborative effort that aims to design and validate a powerful end-to-end solution that streamlines, electrifies and automates the process of loading, unloading and moving goods.

In 2022, the Einride Autonomous Truck became the first purpose-built autonomous, electric truck – without a driver on board – to be granted public road permission in the US. The pilot is scheduled to take place in Selmer, Tennessee, in late 2022.

Jacob Mühlrad is a Swedish composer whose works have been performed at Carnegie Hall in New York and at the National Portrait Gallery in London. Much of his work explores a sense of the eternal, grappling with themes like mortality and the human condition.
Alexander Wessely is a multi-disciplinary Swedish-Greek artist whose works have been exhibited, performed, or shown in over 20 countries. He has also directed music videos for artists including The Weekend and Swedish House Mafia. Wessely is known for building narrative, drama, and expression through silhouettes and contrasts.

That’s because she’s completed training to become the world’s first Remote Operator. She will soon be monitoring and controlling Einride’s autonomous electric vehicles, remotely.

Having tried her hand at the new role, the Texan says she’s confident many truck drivers will want to make the same shift she did. She praises the lifestyle-friendly working conditions of Remote operation, as well as the sustainability advantages associated with electric and autonomous freight.
“Once other truck drivers are able to see what the remote approach to shipping can do for them, both on a professional and personal level, I’m confident that more and more will want to take part in creating lasting change,” she says.

The partnership will represent Einride’s first installation with its renowned Einride Autonomous Trucks in the U.S., which will operate on GE Appliances’ 750-acre Appliance Park campus in Louisville, Kentucky. The new fleet serves as a model for the U.S. transportation ecosystem by elevating the work environment and reducing emissions.
“At GE Appliances, we believe in always finding a better way and striving to be on the forefront of innovation,” said Bill Good, vice president of manufacturing at GE Appliances. “Sustainability and cost-efficiency is a prerequisite for implementing innovation into our business strategy. The partnership and technology investment with Einride is allowing us to deploy safer, more sustainable, and cost-effective solutions for the movement and transportation of material.”
At launch, Einride will implement electric transportation solutions at three of GEA’s locations in Kentucky, Tennessee, and Georgia. As a result of this partnership, GEA is expected to save 970 tons of CO2 emissions within the first year, playing a key role in its global commitment to reduce its environmental footprint by utilizing a state-of-the-art supply chain.
“This marks an important milestone for the freight industry in the U.S., as it’s the first time an autonomous, electric, and remote-operated system is being installed on the scale in North America,” said Robert Falck, CEO at Einride. “The system will allow GEA to reduce its environmental footprint and reap the benefits of Einride's world-leading technology.”
With nearly a decade of experience on the road, driving as a team with her husband, she spends over five days a week in her truck, keeping her away from home and from her family.
Einride's remote operation and oversight technology allows Remote Operators to monitor and control autonomous and electric vehicles from anywhere, creating a totally new career path in the shipping and logistics industry alongside trucking.
“It’s hard to convince people that have been in the industry a long time that this is what should happen. People are nervous that they’re going to lose their job or give up their career, but they’re still gonna need their experience to drive these autonomous vehicles,” said Tiffany.

The trucks ship Oatly's finished products from a production facility to a distribution warehouse, operating 24/7 with multiple drivers, all coordinated by Einride's intelligent freight mobility software, designed to manage the transition to electric freight and make it cost-effective.
Since operations began October 1, 2020, the partnership has resulted in nearly 250,000 electric kilometers driven and saved over 207,000 kg of CO2 compared to diesel, reducing the environmental impact of Oatly’s transportation on those routes by 93.6%.
“This kind of big, electrified installation has not been done before: deciding on where to put the chargers and how to schedule the vehicles and drivers and the best setup, and then integrating everything together with our portal to be able to monitor everything in real time, making sure that we use the resources in the best possible way,” said Tobias Willner, Head of Customer Operations at Einride.

Einride shipped the station over to England and offered visitors the chance to maneuver the electric Einride Autonomous Truck live at the AstaZero test track in Sweden.
Remote operation and oversight technology give Einride operators the ability to monitor and operate the autonomous and electric Einride Autonomous Truck over a 5G connection from nearly anywhere in the world. The technology has the potential to change what it means to be a trucker, from “on the road” to “work from home.”
“We need to think outside the box, and outside the box is actually being at Goodwood [and remotely operating the Einride Autonomous Truck],” said Marie Dahlgren, Vice President of Product Development.
