This does require drilling into the wall but it means that this project can hold lighter items like necklaces as well as heavier items like purses or coats. -I used a kit that contained sawtooth hooks and sawtooth hangers. This is more suited for hanging pictures than floating shelves, but due to coronavirus I'm trying not to go out right now and it's what I had on hand. I just glued another thin strip of wood to the back of the shelf so that it wouldn't hang off of the wall at an angle. DIY CBD Bath Bombs | Last Minute Gift Idea! simpleDIYs 2019-12-18 | Hey friends! It’s been awhile. About 2 years (!) ago I took what I thought would be a brief hiatus from YouTube. The longer it went on, the harder it was to come back. I got busy with life and work and (if we're being totally honest) Netflix binges and naps. In 2 years, I've moved, changed jobs, moved again, gotten engaged. Long story short, I made a lot of excuses about how busy I was, but I still missed YouTube every single day. Before I became a full time YouTuber, it was fun. It was stress free. It wasn't what was paying my bills so there was no pressure. What I didn't realize was that quitting "full time" didn't have to mean leaving YouTube entirely. I've recently decided that instead of imposing rules for myself about how often I should be posting or how much social media I should be promoting, I would just come back slowly, with no pressure. I want YouTube to go back to being a hobby, not a job. I'm back because I've decided to do this in a way that is fun again - no rules, no strict uploading schedule, no pressure to do sponsored videos. I'm going to post what I want, when I want and if you'd like to join me for the next phase of simpleDIYs, subscribe! A FEW WORDS ABOUT CBD - I am still new to CBD and while I have had positive results (mainly from topical treatments, not so much from edible products), I have also spent money on CBD products that have done absolutely nothing for me. With this and any other wellness trend, READ REVIEWS and DO YOUR RESEARCH! Some companies are just trying to cash in on the trend. Others are actually making good products. If you think the CBD trend is total BS, the recipe below works just fine without it! MATERIALSBaking soda - 8 oz.Corn starch - 4 oz.Citric Acid - 4 oz.Epsom salt - 4 oz.Coconut oil (or a substitute like castor oil, olive oil, almond oil, etc.) - 2.5 tablespoonsEssential oil (for scent) - 2 teaspoonsWater - 1 tablespoonCBD oil - 1-3 mL (the amount you use will depend on how strong you want the CBD dose to be. See tips & tricks section below for more info on this)Bath bomb molds (mine were aluminum)Food coloring - 5-10 drops for a lighter shade / 15-20 drops for more intense color (I used 10 drops)This recipe makes 5-10 bath bombs depending on the size of your molds. INSTRUCTIONS 1. Mix the wet ingredients. Warm the coconut oil in the microwave for a few seconds then mix with 1 tablespoon of water, 1-2 droppers of CBD oil, and food coloring.2. Add the dry ingredients to a bowl then whisk together. 3. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients SLOWLY. Whisk the entire time. When you are done stirring in the wet ingredients, the mixture should feel like damp sand.4. Pack the molds firmly. Overfill each half slightly so that there isn't a gap between the 2 halves of the mold after you press them together.5. Let the molds dry overnight. To remove, tap on the outside of the mold a few times. The bath bomb should slide right out.6. Bath time! Enjoy.TIPS + TRICKSFIZZING TIME: To make the fizziness last longer, add more corn starch. The baking soda/citric acid combo creates the bubbles. The corn starch acts as the brakes - it slows the chemical reaction down. Add an additional 2-4 oz. of corn starch to the recipe above to make your bath bombs last longer.COLOR: The CBD oil will turn the bath bombs yellow. I still used the bath bombs (because CBD oil is expensive!) but they turned my bath water a puke green color SO if the color matters to you, use more food coloring to counteract this. I achieved a light blue/turqouise color with 1 mL of CBD oil to 10 drops of food coloring.CBD DOSE: Your CBD oil should indicate how many mg it contains. Divide the total mg by the # of bath bombs (e.g. If you use 500mg of CBD and make10 bath bombs, each one contains 50mg of CBD. Typical doses range from 25-100 mg)FILMING INFO: Filmed with... More info below...+RECIPEINGREDIENTS: 1 cup of rosé or champagne, 1/2 cup sugar (rosé) or about 3/4 cup of sugar (champagne), 3 tablespoons of unflavored gelatin, food coloringYIELDS: A lot of gummy bears! (I don't know exactly how many, but I filled 3 silicone trays then ran out of bears so I had some leftover rosé mixture.1. Add rosé/champagne to saucepan over medium low heat. The alcohol will burn off if you add too much heat so use a thermometer to check that the temp. doesn't top 90 degrees F. Unless you don't want boozy bears...2. Add sugar. Whisk until dissolved.3. Add the unflavored gelatin. Whisk until dissolved. It might start to clump up on you, but keep whisking! (This part was a little tedious.)4. Add food coloring (if you want). I added one drop of pink coloring and that was enough for a pale pink shade. When I do this again, I'll probably add 2-3 drops. No food coloring = sad, tan-ish colored bears. I'd recommend at least 1 drop!5. Use a dropper to add the liquid to the silicone gummy bear mold. Let this set in a refrigerator for a couple hours and you're all done!My tips: 1. Yes, the gummy bears taste different depending on the type of champagne (i.e. bad champagne = bad gummy bears) so don't just get the cheap stuff! Unless you like the cheap stuff ;)2. I found that 10 minutes was the optimal time. Don't let it dry for too long or else the paint will stick to the tape.+Is it safe to burn the candles? Yes. The white wax will obviously melt onto the sides of the candle, but it is still safe to use.+Do the candles smell like peppermint? No! Unfortunately, I could only find unscented white candles, but it would be even better if you did this with peppermint scented candles.+Where can I find the paint adhesion medium? Couldn't find it at Walmart or Target or Michael's (but that might just be because my Michael's is confusing). BASICALLY - best chance of finding one is ordering online!**Also -- for reference, the Target mug is by the brand THRESHOLD. The dollar store mug did not have a brand.________________________________INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Clean the surface of your mug2. Draw on any design.3. Place mugs in oven BEFORE turning it on. Set oven to 425 Fahrenheit for 30 minutes4. Turn off oven & let it cool completely before removing the mugs.5. Test by hand washing or running through the machine.Enjoy!JUST FYI: It really stinks while you're baking the mugs. Maybe this is just something that I experienced, but none of the articles I read about this project mentioned the smell. It's not too bad, but is noticeable.________________________________AFTER FILMING: I went back a third time with more soap and water. The P & E Mugs (Normal sharpie) continued to fade further. The J & C mugs (special sharpie) are still in great condition. I'll keep providing updates on the J & C mugs over time for anyone who is interested in long-term durability.THE VERDICT: The idea that you can just use items that you probably already own (normal sharpie + plain mug) to create this is kind of false. If you're willing to search for the oil based paint sharpie, this can work. That said, I'm sure there are a ton of different sharpie/mug combinations (different mugs have different quality glazes) so I'm sure there are other ways to make this work. Everything else was purchased from Michael's (and can be found at most other craft stores, Walmart, etc.)GOT A Q?-Can you use paint (acrylic or liquid gold leaf) to do this? Yes, but I prefer spray paint. It goes on lighter so it's less likely to seep under the tape & ruin your clean lines. -Do you have to place tape on the bottom of the shoe? No, but it looks so much cleaner this way. It really didn't take me that long to place the tape (10 minutes, tops) and I love the result.+TIPS-The MOST important part of this DIY is securing the tape to seal off anything you don't want to turn gold. -Do at least 2 coats of spray paint + one coat of some sort of clear sealant.-Use any stitching on the ballet flats as a guide. Oops.-Don't leave the wet paint in contact with newspaper. Little bits of newspaper will stick to the surface and ruin the pumpkin.-Gold acrylic paint is not as good as gold leaf. I paid $5 for a jar of gold leaf. I paid $2 for the acrylic paint. That said, after the third layer, more confetti = more unevenness on the outside of the bowl. +HOW LONG DID YOU LET THEM DRY?In total, I allowed both bowls to dry for about 12 hours. Just wanted to make sure they were 100% dry.+WHY DIDN'T YOU ADD A FINAL LAYER OF MOD PODGE TO SMOOTH EVERYTHING DOWN?I attempted this on a small portion of one of the bowls, but unfortunately, the mod podge does not get the confetti to lay flat. Instead of smoothing it out, it added to the chunky, uneven texture on the outside. +FINAL VERDICT:This was half truth/half fail (in my opinion). It does create a bowl, but the outside of the bowl is kind of uneven/sad looking. I'd be really curious to try this with a different type of material to see how it works (fabric, maybe?). Tulip brand powder fabric dye (Michael's) for $2.99.Plain white T (Goodwill) - $2.00I owned everything else.TOTAL COST = $4.99(The second shirt that I dip dyed pink has been in my closet for ages & I don't remember why I purchased it from)+++Every brand of dye is different so be sure to follow the instructions provided on your brand of dye. If you choose Tulip Fabric Dye, you can follow the same steps I did here.+++THE PROCESS1. Put 1 gallon of steaming water in a bucket and add 1/4 cup of salt. Stir to dissolve.2. Add about 1/3 of the dye (no need to be exact).3. Dip the majority of the shirt into the bucket. Wait 10-15 seconds. Lift one inch.4. Wait 10-15 more seconds, lift an inch.5. Wait about 2 minutes, lift another inch.6. Add the rest of your dye and continue to gradually lift the shirt. I lifted the shirt 1 inch at a time about every five minutes until a full hour had passed.+++GOT A QUESTION?+Where can I get the dye? Michael's, JoAnn's Fabric, Walmart, Hobby Lobby, online+Why does the water have to be steaming hot? You want the dye to dissolve fully so that the color on the shirt is even.+Why do you have to keep stirring? Same reason as above. You want the shirt to dye evenly.+Why do you only lift 1 inch at a time? I worked in smaller sections because what this does is give a very gradual ombre effect. You can speed up the process by lifting the shirt more each time, but I love the gradient effect that I got by being a little more patient with this project.+++FILMING INFO+Camera? In the video, I use a sharpie. This creates a pretty tiny ring (that I wear as a midi-ring).
