Apparently the city is so understaffed that they run 7-day work weeks and Burrtec has been hired as an emergency contractor to help. One of the drivers also told me they were considering leasing some side loaders, unsure if that will actually happen. In both areas, trash is collected three times a week, with recycling once. Washington DC DPW Trash Collection trashmonster26 2022-05-14 | Featured here are four awesome crews with the District's DPW working in the historic Capitol Hill neighborhood. You won't find anything bigger than one of these single axle Leaches in the DPW fleet, they order their trucks short for some of the incredibly tight turns that they need to manage. I found only Autocar Experts and a GMC with Leach Alpha bodies, but the district also has some New Ways and Heils as well. I enjoyed walking with the guys and seeing how the job is done in DC. Garbage Trucks of Cambridge, MA – THE WORKS trashmonster26 2022-01-08 | Home to Harvard and MIT, full of tri-story apartments and one-way streets, and being one of the only cities in the state to run their own fleet of trash trucks, Cambridge DPW is truly a unique operation. Not to mention the unapologetically old-school orange rear loaders with the no-BS logo. For trash and organics, the City runs 20-yard McNeilus HD rear loaders on single-axle International and Freightliner chassis. I was fortunate to find two amazing crews last summer, tossing cans with rhythm and coordination.For recycling and yard waste, the City contracts out to Save That Stuff, who runs four Heil 5000 rear loaders on Mack LRs, bought specifically for the contract. CR&R Autocar WX Heil Rapid Rail Refuse Truck trashmonster26 2021-10-23 | Here’s one of CR&R of Colton’s residential trucks in a depressingly sterile suburb of Loma Linda, where every house looks the same and every house has the same carts. I opted not to film the recycle truck because it was slow and boring. CR&R’s Colton yard runs a number of Ex-Consolidated trucks such as this one. They operate a MRF where the neighboring City of Redlands fleet dumps recycling, and I believe both trash and yard waste goes up to Burrtec’s East Valley Transfer site in San Bernardino. EDCO Autocar WX Bridgeport Front Loader in Ocean Beach trashmonster26 2021-08-28 | One of many 2005ish wide cab Autocar WXs that EDCO bought, seen doing commercial trash in the Ocean Beach neighborhood of San Diego. I included some shots of the dumpster moving to show how difficult San Diego’s alley routes are. Heavy, unevenly loaded bins are often wedged in tiny platforms, often right next to cars. Most are locked with a deadbolt. These guys do 3 loads a day, starting at 5:00 am and often not finishing until 10-12 hours later, 5-6 days a week. These trucks are due to be replaced within the next few years.
Ex-Cal Disposal Burrtec Autocar ACX Heil Python trashmonster26 2021-08-20 | Prior to being bought out by Burrtec, it seems Cal Disposal had a very strong relationship with their local Heil dealer. Just a few years ago you could find multiple generations of brown Half/Pack front loaders and 7000 side loaders rolling around parts of San Bernardino, but unfortunately this is the only truck left from that fleet. As you can tell from the squeaking, Burrtec is not greasing up the arm as much as they should. The grabbers could squeeze a little tighter too. But considering this is the only Python in these colors it was still worth getting some video. Thanks to the driver for letting me grab some clips!

Nickerson out of Chatham, MA uses this truck as a last-resort spare. She's got rust all over the frame and body, but she still fires up and runs well when they need her to. Benji himself refers to this truck as "The Pig", so I will too.I’m not exactly sure what the official name of this truck should be. The badge reads “Packmaster” but it appears to be an early 2RII.
