Michael Brown, Holly Pivec, and Doug Geivett met in person on August 13, 2022, to discuss these important issues. Prior to this roundtable, they discussed these issues in 2020 on Alisa Childers’ podcast: Link: youtube.com/watch?v=mOYFfVtgsuI
Note: This discussion was originally intended to be part of the “American Gospel: Spirit & Fire” (AG3) docuseries. Michael Brown withdrew from that project in the fall of 2023 but gave permission to publish this roundtable in an “uncut” format, separate from AG3.

Is the New Apostolic Reformation a real movement that promotes dangerous false teachings that have subjected countless people to spiritual abuse and manipulation? Or is the label "NAR" being used by critics to misrepresent the beliefs of faithful leaders?

In a four-hour roundtable discussion, Justin Peters, Jim Osman, Michael Brown, and Sam Storms sit down to discuss these disagreements in person for the first time. We trust that this conversation will edify the body of Christ and provide clarity on these divisive, yet critical, issues.
Note: This roundtable discussion was recorded on April 1, 2023, six months before the news related to Mike Bickle's sexual abuse became public. Sam Storms' and Michael Brown's joint-statement can be read at 53:25.

This discussion began with a phone call that Jim Osman made to Michael Brown's radio program in 2021, which reveals some sharp differences in how he is more quick to label certain individuals as “false teachers” in comparison to Dr. Michael Brown. This led us to coordinate some behind-the-scenes conversations about these differences in Biblical discernment, which finally lead to this public discussion on April 1st, 2023.
Dr. Michael Brown unfortunately withdrew his involvement in our American Gospel: Spirit & Fire (AG3) docuseries a few months ago, leaving us unable to use the footage we recorded with him. Shortly after that was announced, he kindly gave us permission to publish this roundtable (originally intended to be part of AG3) in an uncut form, as long as it was separated from the AG3 project.
This discussion will be exclusively available to AGTV subscribers on Friday, March 1, 2024. A few weeks later, it will be accessible for free on both AGTV and YouTube. We pray that this conversation will be edifying, and leads to greater discernment within the body of Christ.

The leaders of Bethel Church in Redding, California are known for cultivating a culture of spiritual experimentation and risk-taking. One experiment involved certain leaders and students visiting the burial sites of old Pentecostal heroes.
Trips were made to the resting places of Kathryn Kuhlman, Smith Wigglesworth, and other famous “generals” to seek a transference of their anointing for miracles. Concerned critics have labeled the practice as “grave-soaking” or “grave-sucking”. A controversy was ignited after photos and videos of the practice began to circulate online. Today, you can’t read an article about Bethel Church without seeing mention of grave-soaking.
What was the origin of this experiment? Is there Biblical support for it? Is it only a fringe practice that “heresy hunters” have blown out of proportion? Has there been genuine repentance on the part of the leadership for allowing and encouraging this trend?
These episodes (Grave Soaking & The House of Generals) provide an in-depth investigation into the facts, including eyewitness testimony, an evaluation of recent attempts to downplay the situation by the leaders of Bethel, and a look at the overall culture that made this possible.
Most importantly, Biblical teaching and correction will be offered on the subject of “anointing”. The truth of what Christ has done in the Gospel shines in beautiful contrast against the distortions made by those who are earnestly seeking miraculous power.
For context, the Grave Soaking episodes will premiere here (10/25, and remain until 10/31/23):

But what does Scripture say? Let's look at the example of why God chose to save Israel in the book of Deuteronomy:
"It was not because you were more in number than any other people that the Lord set his love on you and chose you, for you were the fewest of all peoples, but it is because the Lord loves you and is keeping the oath that he swore to your fathers, that the Lord has brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the house of slavery, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.”- Deuteronomy 7:7-8
God didn't choose to save Israel because they were more valuable or greater in number than other nations (they were the fewest of all peoples). His motivation for saving Israel was based in His love, not their value, greatness, or worth. In Ezekiel chapter 16, God even tells Israel that their sins are worse than Sodom and Samaria’s sins, and yet God chose to be merciful to Israel (and give the others justice) because of His covenant love:
“As I live, declares the Lord God, your sister Sodom and her daughters have not done as you and your daughters have done.” - Ezekiel 16:48
“Samaria has not committed half your sins. You have committed more abominations than they, and have made your sisters appear righteous by all the abominations that you have committed.” - Ezekiel 16:51
“Yet I will remember my covenant with you in the days of your youth, and I will establish for you an everlasting covenant. Then you will remember your ways and be ashamed when you take your sisters, both your elder and your younger, and I give them to you as daughters, but not on account of the covenant with you. I will establish my covenant with you, and you shall know that I am the Lord, that you may remember and be confounded, and never open your mouth again because of your shame, when I atone for you for all that you have done, declares the Lord God.” -Ezekiel 16:60-63
The same truth applies to our salvation. Christ died for us while we were ungodly sinners-- His enemies:
“For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die—but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”- Romans 5:6-8
“For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life.” - Romans 5:10
When we begin to think that we are "worthy," then God's grace is nullified, and man's glory is central. But when we realize that we are unworthy and unlovable, but God sets His love upon us in spite of our sin (an infinite debt), then God's love and grace looks more glorious.
"But aren't we valuable because we are made in God's image?" Yes, we have created value because God created us in His image (Gen. 1:26). But that image was marred by sin in the Fall, and has left all mankind guilty, worthy of God’s wrath, or justice in hell:
“None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one.” -Romans 3:11-12
Our created value does not play into the motivation or reason that God chose to be compassionate and gracious toward sinners. He chose to love and save sinners because He is love. The reason our salvation required the infinite value of the blood of Jesus is because our sin is an offense against an infinitely holy God, which means we owe an infinite debt that we cannot afford to pay.
We are valuable because God loves us. God doesn't love us because we are valuable. One message appeals to our pride and focuses our attention on our own greatness, while the other humbles us as we focus on the depth of God's amazing love for unworthy sinners, who He adopts as sons and daughters!

Kris Vallotton of Bethel Church, claims that Michael the Archangel appeared by his bedside in wrestling tights, and in a bad mood. But does this description of an angelic encounter match the description of angels that we see in Scripture?

A massive theological movement has been sweeping through the Church in recent decades. Millions of professing Christians around the world believe that God is restoring the lost offices of apostle and prophet to church government. They claim these restored apostles and prophets are needed to usher in a global end times revival by delivering new revelations and performing great signs and wonders. This modern apostolic and prophetic paradigm has been called the “New Apostolic Reformation.” Though there is some debate over that label (NAR), the core issues place a demand on all Christians to respond to these claims of authority.
Has Christ Himself sent these new apostles and prophets to His Church? These are not trivial claims. If God is truly behind these leaders, then Christians of all denominations need to start heeding their words and implementing their teachings. Christ and His apostles warned us that false prophets would come, and that we would know them by their fruits. How do we Biblically judge the fruit of this modern apostolic and prophetic movement in truth and love?
“American Gospel: Spirit & Fire” will compare and contrast the true person and work of the Holy Spirit with the manifestations and prophetic revelations attributed to Him by leaders in the modern apostolic and prophetic movement.

“The Christian actually does neither. We do not hate, but nor do we affirm. We cannot hate because of God’s Word. And we cannot affirm because of God’s Word. And we have to be prepared to say that we are unprepared to rewrite the Bible, in order to accommodate a society that needs the Bible, and needs the Jesus who is the focus of the Bible.”
Christians increasingly understand what it means to be sojourners and exiles in a Western world that, not long ago, commonly gave those with biblical convictions a seat at the table. Drawing from Peter’s first letter to the early, scattered church, Alistair Begg explains how to live faithfully in a world that has turned its back on God. By reminding ourselves—and each other—that we’re God’s children and foreigners in this place, we can live according to God’s will, stand firm in His grace, and focus on His everlasting kingdom.
