Spaceship Earth - Calm Descent Music Loop - Bruce Broughton (ReRecording) Listen to Theme Parks 2023-08-23 | Epcot´s Spaceship Earth allows a time travel through the history of communication from its beginning to the digital age. The orchestral soundtrack for this attraction (composed by Bruce Broughton) consists of several one-minute music loops. Some of them are musically synchronized, running at the same tempo and using the same chords but variations on the main theme and new countermelodies/arrangements. This allows to capture the dynamic and spirit of the scenes the ride vehicles are passing.After exiting the planetarium dome the vehicles start to descend back to the ground floor - the epic music gets calmer while riders are invited to "create their future" and answering multiple-choice questions on the display in front of them.The music of this part of the ride was not released officially, we did a new recording of this soothing instrumental waltz. When the "Welcome to your future"-videos are played back on the displays the music transitions into another loop that is musically linked to the descent music, but has a more playful arrangement / orchestration.
Poseidon´s Fury - Islands of Adventure - Interior Queue Music (Stereo Re-Recording) Listen to Theme Parks 2023-04-15 | Entering the dark catacombs of Poseidon´s Temple guests hear a short music loop that perfectly captures the foreboding ambiance of the area. Since this soundtrack from the queue area is unreleased we present this new recording of the music, paired with a 3D animatic that shows a virtual POV "walking" from the oracle chamber to the main show area of the attraction. Previsualization sequences like this are often used during the development of attractions. Using 3D models like this the view of the human eye can be "simulated" which allows planers to work out important sightlines and other issues like capacity, flowthrough, etc.
Extraterrorestrial Alien Encounter - Preshow March (Stereo Rerecording) Listen to Theme Parks 2023-03-10 | Thanks to the wonders of X-S Technologies we were able to recreate this piece of music heard in the second preshow of the now-extinct Alien Encounter attraction at Walt Disney World. After an audio-animatronic host called "S.I.R." presented the advantages (and risks) of X-S teleportation technologies he ushered visitors into the main show room. The cheesy march presented here was heard at the end of his introduction.This piece of music is an example for a so-called fill-and-spill-music, a track that is especially created to be used while audiences enter or exit a theme park attraction (mostly used in show type attractions). In this example you can here how the music conveys some kind of steady movement to usher the guests into / out of the main show room while also creating foreboding atmosphere by not using bright happy major chords. The main melody provides a slightly feeling of unease, partly by often using minor fifths and thirds.

Heard in this part of the queue is a special music loop that features less instruments than the version released on the official theme park albums.We faithfully recreated this music loop (originally arranged by George Wilkins) and also included some alternate variations of the march that is based on the song "Strange Things".One of the featured instruments heard in the latter half of the clip is the theremin which was used in several alien-related film scores back in the 50s and 60s. Its "gliding" sound is often associated with strange extraterrestrial worlds and is used here to establish the mood for the guest's journey to "Planet Z".

Adventure, the new interactive dark ride at Disneyland Resort Paris´ Avengers Campus. Visitors help Spiderman (Tom Holland) fighting Spider-Bots that overrun the Stark facility, targeting, shooting and pulling objects is done via arm movements. The soundtrack is very similar to the version of the attraction in the US, but the character vocals switch between French and English. This multi-langual approach is used in many theme park attractions around the world. In this case the goal is to provide french and english speaking visitors (who make up the majority of the park guests) with the needed information about what is going on and what they are supposed to do in the gameplay. The music contains new arrangements of themes from the Spiderman movies scored by Michael Giacchino. This video also includes the hold-up and restart spiels, that are played when your ride is temporarily delayed.
Walt Disney World - Magic Kingdom - Be our Guest Restaurant Exterior Music Loop Listen to Theme Parks 2019-12-25 | As our final release for this 2019 series: This is the complete music loop playing at the entrance of the Be our Guest restaurant at Walt Disney World Orlando. It features songs from the Beauty and the Beast animated movie and the stage musical re-arranged and recorded especially for the restaurant.If you visit the restaurant you will recognize that a lot of the ambiance is created by the soundtracks played in different areas inside - in fact there are two music loops that run in-sync with each other, allowing smooth acoustic transitions if guests wander around in the rooms. One loop features an orchestra while the other has the same music tracks arranged and played by a music box. By having similar tempo and key structures the music allows an acoustic backdrop that doesn't seem to "chaotic".
Disneyland Paris - Alice´s Curious Labyrinth - French Character Voices Soundtrack Listen to Theme Parks 2019-12-24 | This clip features all character vocals and sound FX you can hear in the walkthrough attraction at Disneyland Paris. After entering the labyrinth through a gloomy tunnel with eerie soundtrack, guests encounter the Cheshire Cat and other creatures at Tulgey wood. At a popular photo-spot the smoking caterpillar is talking to the visitors. The Queen of Hearts and various guards await guests who dare to go deeper into the maze.The music in this attraction shows that sometimes it's more effective to completely re-record material instead of using existing tracks. The original soundtrack for the animated feature "Alice in Wonderland" changes tempo and mood quite fast. This fits the film but makes it hard to create background loops that stay true to a certain mood for more than few seconds.Film composer John Debney arranged this music (partly for the revamped Alice ride in California) using the original tunes and drawing inspiration from the movie orchestration. This solution also solved another problem: Back in the 1950s Disney didn't archive the original music-only tracks from the orchestra recording session - only the mixes with sound fx were stored.

Before the ride starts, safety spiels in French and English are heard, followed by instructions how to handle the carpets. During the ride Genie gives stage directions in English and French, he has three commentary tracks in each language which are used alternatively (For this track related French and English commentaries are mixed together for better comparison). Big Band and organ arrangements of "Prince Ali", "One Jump Ahead" and "A Friend like me" are used as ride music in rotation. The ride concludes with the exit spiels in French and English. This is an example how modern audio software in theme parks can help keep the soundscapes interesting for guests staying longer in one area: The playback system used at the attraction allows to combine the aforementioned music and voice over tracks which creates more variety.

Magic Kingdom - Mickey´s Philharmagic - Complete Soundtrack Listen to Theme Parks 2017-12-25 | This is the complete soundtrack for Mickey´s Philharmagic at Walt Disney World including two pre-show announcements by Minnie and stage manager Goofy that can be heard in the queue area.This show features Donald causing all kinds of mayhem as stagehand for a concert orchestra. Using the magical conductor hat he is "transported" into some well-known animated movies and relives scenes with Aladdin, the little Mermaid, Peter Pan and others. While the soundtrack uses many famous Disney songs and in some segments also orchestrations faithful to the original movie versions there are also some parts where you can clearly hear that the orchestra playbacks were newly recorded especially for this show. This allows the music arranger to adapt the tunes better to the action / timing on the screen, sometimes omitting parts from the original song versions and/or adding new "cartoon" musical counterpoints to fit Donalds antics. Also re-recording the material gives the audience a cohesive flow in terms of audio quality - if the show had used the original soundtrack recordings from the movies the difference in fidelity for example between "The Lion King" (recorded in the 1990s) and "Peter Pan" (1953) would have been quite obvious and a potential risk to draw guests "out" of the immersive experience.

Islands of Adventure - Jurassic Park - Calypso Loop Listen to Theme Parks 2017-12-21 | This is the complete music loop playing in the area around the entrance to "Jurassic Park River Adventure". It's a good example how to create fitting music for a landscape while also drawing from existing musical material. In this case John Williams´ famous Jurassic Park movie theme is turned into a calypso arrangement.Interesting side note: As a park guest in this area you are supposed to feel like a visitor at Jurassic Park and encounter similar dinosaurs like in the movie. Although the human characters in the films never "heard" the Jurassic Park theme as diegetic music (music that comes from a "explainable" source like a radio or visible orchestra), the melody is now part of the official background soundtrack of the park.
Islands of Adventure - Seuss Landing - Music Loop Listen to Theme Parks 2017-12-20 | The wacky world of Dr. Seuss has a diverse soundtrack: At least six loops play in-sync in this area, all are based on the same tune but every loop has a different musical arrangement. This clip shows how a coherent musical soundscape is provided for a large themed area by using the same "musical structures" and chords in different loops. Using this trick produces an aural experience that does not seem boring but not like a cacophony either.
