Custom Spyro The Dragon Music - Breakneck Speedway MightyEight Music 2021-12-28 | I finally have chance to flex my Spyro Soundfont muscles for realsies because I got sick and had to stay home from work a couple days and this is what I occupied my time with. I built this to kinda resemble Cloud Spires structurally because thats my favorite Spyro song and also wanted to base it around the 2 loops in Spyro I feel get the least amount of love which is a shame because they're my favorites other than the one from Cloud Spires itself. It quickly get got weird and wild as result of the loops being pretty intense and it started to feel very Spyro 2/3 speedway like and I quickly was getting more and more ideas and it really just kind of came really seamlessly. Definitely my favorite/best bassline(s) ive EVER written. Also its really important to note how much a MIDI controller can benefit you when writing rhythm sections and staying within the pocket. When you record what you're actually playing within the Spyro style with some quantization, those rock and funk beats come so much more naturally feeling just way less forced and it was doing it constantly here. Need For Madness 2 - Let The Dream Begin (Cover) MightyEight Music 2022-09-13 | This song my opinion is a sleeper hit of the soundtrack and even as a kid I was always drawn to it and I didn't know why. It isn't really brought up as a memorable song or level in the fandom because its rather unassuming but the music itself makes it memorable at least to me. Its got really nice synths and good sense of forward momentum and some really curious improv and melody choices. All things I try to do justice picking some juicy synths to remake those lovely chords and some out of the box lead instrument ideas to highlight the unique melody especially in the little freestyle section. I also wanted to really give the 2nd instance of that section in the song some real pizzazz and throw a sick freestyle. It makes me think of a fighting game really. MightyEight - Happiest Day MightyEight Music 2022-06-06 | Well well well, youve reached the end of the album.This song is also quite old dating back before the album had even started but fitting very snuggly into the theme of electronic music and synthwave antics. I used the Artisans song from Spyro as a guide for structure which made the song very plucky but also a tad short. I also got to use a Sax sample for the first time which was a ton of fun albeit a little difficult. It really also made the song very kooky and cheery so I ran with it and took the already pretty thicc chords I built and threw a very gentle and puffy synth on them making it even happier. The track takes a final turn building more chords and adding more synths on a really sweet sounding musical phrase. Finally I took my favorite wailing high pitched synth, the LD Theme Init 2 from Nexus sing it into a fadeout giving it a very end credits kind of feeling to the ridiculous adventure you just took in this album. MightyEight - Dutiful Winds MightyEight Music 2022-06-06 | I was heavy into Kingdom Hearts last year (foreshadowing ;P) and Kingdom Hearts has these lovely and just totally awesome giant chord progressions that really make you feel something. So when I was feeling particularly pensive one day I said ynow what Im gonna make something epic and emotional. Big boy chords, synthesizers and synth orchestral elements like horns, big bad cinematic war drums and cymbal rolls and what not and THEN I threw this complete rogue element that happened to be this wild slap bass and the funk level just shot up to a million. Notes just hitting you from every which way creating tension and resolving it. But that last bass line is hands down the 2nd bass line Ive ever written and it didnt even start out as one it was a line for the horns and I just had the bass follow while doing its own octave based (haha) slap pattern and those slaps on those higher notes just really get me going. I had built such wicked forward momentum I had to pair some improv on a synth to really capitalize on that wild rogue feeling and then it all gets resolved on one note and a cymbal roll, leaving you with the gentle shaking of a tambourine (which was also a ton of fun to use here and I think people should use them more) It hardcore contrasts against the bleak feeling of the previous track on the album, having Galaxy Dynamite on the offensive running for his life to this track, a major sense of duty and importance instantly set and this intense roller coaster of battle. I imagine him standing on a hill, wind in his hair, realizing what must be done and when it is done....silence.Happy Listening! MightyEight - The Ultimate Doom MightyEight Music 2022-04-14 | I wanted to write something really bleak, dissonant, and kind of just ugly and play around with chromaticism and weird intervals between notes. It reminds me a bit of Doom. At first I was trying to do something really primus-esque but it quickly became its own beast once the supersaw, heavy metal, and epiano chords got involved. It was a ton of fun to have that clean guitar and bass shred through all of those notes playing the same ones together I listened to it on solo at least a kajillion times but then I was stuck less so because I was ideas but my laptop cound not handle the sheer amount of shit I was putting into this song. The file was getting larger and larger and laptops patience shorter and shorter so I was discouraged from it lest I lose all of my hard work somehow but then I got a giant rig that can take mostly everything I throw at so I went all out with the high pitched synths paired up with some guitars that really give it this demonic, hellish, bizarre, and hopeless feeling contrasted against and ultra low bass note and absolutely WAILING synth. Interestingly enough a lot of the end segments were written out of order and I had to find a way to connect them somehow which was tough because right behind the bridge are these GIANT strummed synth fucking chords that may have come to me easy are hard to connect with all of the shredding and crazy bullshit. It all culminates to bringing you back to the beginning familiar dissonant melody and trails off on the most longing, unresolved, and anxiety inducing part never giving you the feeling that this experience you just took part never finishes or resolves. MightyEight - Tamashi City Sewers MightyEight Music 2022-03-30 | Believe it or not this song is 4 years old. I started writing it in June of 2018, my first year of college and let me tell you that is a blessing and a curse. A blessing because this was born in an era that I was just throwing any creative idea no matter how weird or possibly unpalatable or inaccessible it was and you can create this sickest and gnarliest fucking things out of pure creativity like that but holy shit I could not stop writing myself into corners because the material is just so bizarre. It was insanely hard to connect all of these ideas together with the tools 18 year old me set so I really had to pull out all of the stops. I had a Distorted Reality loop that creates this very underwater sewerish kind of vibe so I threw on a drum fill to assist it and it gave it this jerky and janky vibe which I really like especially when I busted out that Yam snare. The Yam can have such a crisp and sharp sound and I think it works really well in tandem with the hard rock sections of the song. I'd say the only thing I was uncertain about was the mix. Its very intricate and loud so for some this maybe a bit much but I love it its one of my favorites on the album especially the end.Happy Listening! MightyEight - Necros Challenge MightyEight Music 2022-03-16 | This song is a tribute to my friend. Consider this a token of our friendship. I'm so glad we met and I dont know where I'd be without youSo this started out as fun project for someone but as time passed and I became more distracted and the person didnt need the song anymore it became this beast all on its own. When I had first cracked open Kontakt the first couple of times I found this PHAT ass beat that really gave me jungle vibes paired with a split second of a bass line that I heard in an Andrew Hang video. These two things all on their own spawned this really quirky, somewhat training montage-esque song. I had found blending these different bass textures with different instruments. Then I got inspired by said phat beat and it reminded me a lot of Spyro 2 and its use of Distorted Reality so I used some of those loops on there couple with other various Stewart Copeland/Spyro like percussion which only made the beat even phatter. Kingdom Hearts II - Vim and Vigor (Synth Rock Cover) MightyEight Music 2022-01-05 | "ONCE AGAIN JACK"This is one of my all time favorite tracks from the Kingdom Hearts series only 2nd to Dance to Death and because I am a slave to my nostalgia the original KH2 version is my favorite so I felt the need to honor it but I wanted to kick it up a notch by giving it the synth rock treatment with some badass electric guitars and drums and pairing them with some synth brass and supersaws with some good ol strings in proper Kingdom Hearts fashion and I think the guitars paired with guitar hold like a lot of emotional weight giving the song this relentless yearning kind of feeling. It was also a ton of fun to take the bass part and turn it into a bassline for an electric bass which in turn really spruced up the drums on top of it being in 6/8. Its made from a sample and Andrew flipped it into this funky chill kind of lofi hip hop beat with a great guitar line during an episode of "4 Producers, 1 Sample" and it kind of reminded me of Spyro because of the guitars so when I covered it I threw a Distorted Reality loop on it to further cerement that Spyro feel while having this kind of campy sinister but also fun and funky kind of feel. Incredibox V8/IncrediblePolo - Dystopia (Cover) (All Sounds In Order) MightyEight Music 2021-08-10 | I spent ALL this fucking time having NO idea what Incredibox was up until recently and its the coolest music related thing ive seen in a very long time and I have the game on both my phone and on steam. Im deeply in love with this song and wanted to show it some love. Even though I think the full version of this song thats on Spotify is just way too short and doesnt make use of all the sounds that the game does which is a shame but I still thinks its good nonetheless. It's still sick and it was really interesting doing a cover like this with every instrument getting added one by one over the course of 5 or so minutes. Its interesting because usually when songs are just layered with a lot of instruments it can get too repetitious or busy quick and its how I used to write music when I started but this is a really good example of how to do that style of song properly. Custom Kingdom Hearts Music - Uphill Battle (Strange Journey Combat) MightyEight Music 2021-06-09 | Starts at 0:10I've been really heavy into Kingdom Hearts and its music lately and I forgot how cool I initially thought it was as a kid that every world had a regular theme and a theme for combat that was intense and faster and really meant to ramp up the pressure and emotional weight of the situation in places kind of like the Death Routes especially in Crash Bandicoot 2. So I took some motifs from the original song that me and Shaad wrote together and spiced it up. The non boss battle songs in Kingdom Hearts especially in Kingdom Hearts 1 are really short usually spanning around 50 seconds to a minute and a half at most with a LOT of stuff crammed into that short amount of time. Key changes different time signatures transitions and yadda yadda so I worked in some polymeters and polyrhythms together in a 10/8 time signature for the 2nd and 3rd haves of the song to give it that Kingdom Hearts pizzazz. MightyEight - Starship 2000 MightyEight Music 2021-04-12 | This song was created in the flurry of inspiration birthed by Komplete Start and my deep nostalgia for 2000's mainstream music mostly being Hip Hop and R&B. This music is probably some of the first music I heard in my life just sitting around watching my sisters consume media that I was only just then becoming old enough to understand so it's very nostalgic for me and while searching through Komplete Kontrol I found the percussion for the song and it instantly reminded me of that 2000's Hip Hop and R&B so I wanted to combine my synth style with the hip hop because to my knowledge those 2 styles are combined very often so I wanted to throw my hat in the ring and give my take on what that would sound like especially because its still what I make as for all the crazy synth stuff but its different enough for me that im still pushing my comfort zone in an interesting way. MightyEight - The Sun Will Come Back MightyEight Music 2021-03-08 | These past 3 or so months have been hell on Earth for me. Just anything that could possibly go wrong, went wrong. It was easily the hardest year of my life. But, many months ago I started writing this song and it was extremely cheery and I was really making a ton of progress and then I hit a brick wall creatively and it sat untouched, and I was so upset these past few months I couldnt bring myself to finish it and I almost got tired of working on it and I just wanted it to fucking be done already. But today I got the motivation to pull it together just a little bit and finish it off especially near the end of the song which is EXTREMELY cheery like it'll give you a cavity its so sweet and it really cheered me up and kind of reminded me that even though my depression is in full force right now, it doesnt have to be like that forever. Its temporary and The Sun Will Come Back. And that things will get better eventually. I dont know when or how but eventually things will get better, they wont be how they used to be and thats a shame but it will get better EVENTUALLY. And you can be happy again. At least for a little while. I dunno, thats what I took away from it.This song uses a percussion sequence in Nexus that I never explored and really added to the synthwave-ish feeling to it. I used a bass ive never used before and paired it with what I believe to be a mandolin and but a TON of chorus giving it a really warbly feeling to kinda add to the magical and otherworldliness of it. The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon - Floating Island Fight (Spyro PS1 Soundfont) MightyEight Music 2021-01-27 | Someone suggested this like months ago and I realized that I do/see the Crash Bandicoot equivalent of this a lot with games and their PS1 soundfonts but not with Spyro and its later games and id wager thats because the later games soundtrack is a lot more orchestral and complex and not midi like in the old days. I actually dont know much about The Legend Of Spyro ive played it once or twice so when this was suggested I scoured the soundtrack and found the song I liked the best and tried to turn it into like a Spyro 2-esque boss battle like Gulps Overlook or Clash With Crush. Heavy intense grand percussion and this has some really cool dissonant chords rubbing against each other to really drive that sense of dread and the really intense bouncy timpanis. I found this song while going on my ASMR escapades and this one video I was watching had this song in the background because it was old timey fantasy tavern themed and I was immediately drawn to it and its really short and quaint but I really enjoy it its a very catchy and relaxing song. Spyro The Dragon - Unheard Track #1(Cover) MightyEight Music 2020-08-01 | This is one of my favorite songs from the original Spyro and its a rare find in game. For some reason theres a glitch with the music playbacks that cause different songs to play when youve hung around in a level too long. Alternate versions of existing songs in the game and completely original pieces by good ol Stewie. Its very chill, thoughtful and quaint and embodies would I consider some of the most "Spyro like" music in the franchise at least in terms of the original trilogy. I would hear it all the time when Id get stuck in Wizard Peaks too long and it kinda spooked me when the Wizard Peaks song would fade out and this new quieter one would fade in. MightyEight - The Armada MightyEight Music 2020-06-22 | Continuing my quest to create more synthwavy electronicish music, I found an electric drum kit I had never used and combined that with an EDM kick and then found a Nexus sequence preset that sounded very techno, then I found a Sytrus present that just screams aliens and it was history from there. I was going for an alien invasion space battle kind of feel and a lot of this heavily inspired by Invader Zim with its campy but somewhat sinister nature.I also used a metric fuck ton of guitars in this song more the I usually ever do because I dont have a lot of them and they can be really difficult to write for but I used elements of heavy metal with the crazy power chords to add some more hype and suspense to the sinister feeling. These places are usually populated with things or people and are the in between points that we dont pay much attention to but in these photos, there is either nothing or no one which adds to the creepy factor. SPARTA SYNTHWAVE M8 REMIX BASE MightyEight Music 2020-05-01 | ***Be sure to give credit if youd like to use this***I got this idea on a whim, and I said to myself I know the ins and outs of most Sparta Remixes so why not make my own base since I have the means of doing it with FL Studio. I wanted to make a base that still hearkens back to the days of 2009 when Sparta Remixes were the shit but still has my brand of Synthwave video game music kind of flavor with unique pitches and chord progressions while still having the whole "DUNDUNDENDEN" thing. Im pretty proud of it. I even made my own sparta remix with this base as a test using myself and my videos with my friends . I kept the original "Extended Remix" very low in the background because it really kinda drives the whole song. Something about the high energy country rodeo vibe just makes me think of them.I used a loop for the drums and split it up with Slicex to make pseudo fills. Lots of slap bass and more unique transitions and instruments, like this was the first time I ever use a banjo. Its good to know I can make a song last up to 4 minutes when just a year ago I couldnt get passed 2 minutes. I came down with a really bad fever months ago and was just completely miserable for about a week straight but thankfully I got better and I said to myself if I could put into music how terrible and how unhappy I was how would it sound but I never really thought about it passed that at first but then my sister suggested a documentary about Miles Davis to me and in that I heard a song that really did mirror the feeling I was thinking of and I began to write. Then the state of the virus really became bad and I started to get scared because I live in New York and its very bad here and of all the cities in the county I live in my city has it the worst which made me incorporate a fearful feeling into it. The song itself is a very slow and quiet piece driven by a bass, acoustic guitar and piano gently weaving around each other. It was also a small practice in improv and I learned that C Sharp Minor is my favorite chord because it isnt sad, but it isnt happy either. I find it very suspenseful because I never know how to really feel about it and thats very interesting to me.
