Making A Song Using AI & Algorithms (MusicGen, @Polyend Play & @SONICWARE Smpltrek) Yuri Wong 2023-07-30 | I created the loop using MusicGen huggingface.co/spaces/facebook/MusicGenThe drums were generated & sequenced on the @Polyend Play (firmware 1.4)I initially wanted to use the @SONICWARE Smpltrek to slice the loop into 8 equal parts and have the Play generate random MIDI notes to trigger the slices, but there were 2 issues:1. The Smpltrek can't slice equal slices (I know right???)2. The Play has no feature to limit the randomisation to a selected note range (it only has 1/2 octave ranges, not enough control for what I wanted to do)In the end, I felt a little bit limited by the hardware, though I was pleasantly surprised that the loop was quite to my liking. I did a number of generations (not many, less than 10) and picked the one I liked the best. The rest were actually pretty good too, if only in mono though. I also brought the initial loop into Logic Pro and flex timed it and quantised to 16th notes, just to get it perfectly on grid. I could have left it as it was, but I'm just a bit of a grid person :POverall, an interesting experience, and one I think I'll revisit at some point, perhaps with a different approach.
