And hours later our granddaughter was involved in a serious car accident on her way from Reno to visit her new niece. A huge buck (deer) jumped onto her fast-moving car and landed on the hood of it. Her car was totaled but she was okay. I was dealing with this when I got an email informing me that my childhood friend Rita had passed away that day. She is gone but her memories and all that she gave to others remain. Rev. Bill talks about how "stuff" happens all the time and we need to adjust our attitude because, in the end, everything happens as it is supposed to. Bill McDonald recounts a bad experience that he and his helicopter crew endured in the spring of 1967 in Vietnam along the Cambodian border. They were asked go to pick up wounded ARVN (The Army of the Republic of Vietnam) troops from an LZ that was under a mortar attack by the VC. There were 300 ARVN troops in the LZ and yet they were not aggressively fighting back and were all huddled up in this grassy meadow that was being used as an LZ. Once the helicopter was down on the ground and started to load the wounded all hell broke loose. The troops began to panic and run for the helicopter trying to escape on it out of the battle zone. This lead to a dangerous situation as the Huey was overloaded and could not lift up to fly out of there. This life experience although not from any famous battle or memorable historic event has stayed with Rev.
