Scalloping is a fun, family activity that brings you closer to nature. We have made it a point to do an annual scallop trip with friends and family and made some of our best memories doing so. Scalloping is excellent for beginners and advanced water babies. Typically you are only snorkeling in three to six feet of water. Some of the items you need include a good mask and snorkel. I like the snorkel that helps keep water from entering your breath tube. It would help if you also had some neoprene socks; the socks protect your ankles from chafing and discomfort from your fins. The constant rubbing on bare skin can irritate the skin. A mesh bag will allow you to add your scallops to the bag as you go; this way, you don't have to keep swimming back to the boat to unload. Grandpa always said to work smarter, not harder. Remember, safety comes first. Purchase a nice visible dive flag to let other boaters know you are in the water and to use caution. Fishing For Anything That Bites in 200 Feet - Offshore Fishing Florida Joshua Taylor 2023-07-16 | In this episode, we venture 75 miles out into the gulf to fish for anything that will bite in 200 feet—the day started with a 30-minute drive over the big bridge to St. Petersburg, Florida. This is where the fellas and I were scheduled to meet with Capt. Brian. Capt. Brian runs fishhawk charters and specializes in offshore fishing and American Red snapper. Offshore ocean fishing in Florida can be top-notch, especially when the weather is excellent, and you have a knowledgeable captain. After boarding the boat, we idled out of the inlet and quickly ran to a concealed pinfish trap to load the bait well. After that, all we could do was get comfortable; it was about a 2.5-hour ride into the deep blue sea. We crashed on the bean bags and took in the fresh salt air. A couple of hours later, we arrived at our first destination. The unit showed promising marks and baitfish. Chris threw down a Fishlab, and sure enough, he hooked up with a solid red grouper. Every bait that went down got hit with a few seconds for the first thirty minutes. The most efficient rig was the chicken rig. We had a variety of baits, including greenbacks, pinfish, shrimp, and artificial lures. The greenbacks were the preferred bait on this trip. The moral of the story is to diversify your bait for optimal success. The Okuma Makaira, Cavalla, and spinning ger did work on the fish. The fellas caught mangrove snapper, vermilion snapper, American red snapper, gag grouper, and red grouper, among other species. Once the day concluded, we walked over to Island Bar and Grill so they could cook up a fresh batch of fish. It was delicious and left everyone satisfied. EASY Delicious American Red Snapper Fish Recipe Joshua Taylor 2023-07-09 | Here is an easy but delicious American Red Snapper recipe. This recipe only takes a few minutes to prepare, but it will have everyone wanting more. The main ingredients include snapper, flour, seafood magic, butter, lemons, capers, parsley, olive oil, and white wine. Heat your pan on medium to high heat; add olive oil and a tablespoon of butter. Once the pan gets to temperature, add your fish fillets. Cook each side for two to three minutes, depending on thickness. An easy indicator of completion is that the fish is opaque white. Fishing Deep Hole Yields Surprising Results Joshua Taylor 2023-04-30 | We fished a deeper hole estimated to be between 20 and 25 feet deep; the targeted species was speckled trout. We used light spinning tackle, specifically the @OkumaFishingUSA SRT 7'6" ML spinning rod and the Okuma ITX 2500. The line used is 10lb Power Pro and 20lb Soft Steel leader. We used the free line technique very similar to when we fish for mackerel. The idea was to hook the pilchards in the pectoral fin to help them descend lower in the water column with the tide. We did, however, chum to get the trout closer to the surface. This also helps them to lower their guard for more consistent action. Essential Items That You Need to Be Successful at The Skyway Fishing Pier! Joshua Taylor 2023-03-19 | In this video, I discuss some of the essential items you need to succeed at the Skyway fishing pier, or any pier for that matter. Some of those items include a tackle bag with tackle such as a leader, hooks, weights, swivels, and lures. You also need a castnet; I used a ten-foot Big Gulp cast net 3/8 inch and 1.5 lbs per foot in this demonstration. This will help get the net down quick enough but prevent the gilling of baits. Next, you need a place to store your bait and keep them alive or fresh. I love my @XTremeBaitTanks when I am housing a lot of bait, but If I know I only need to keep a couple dozen alive, then I will often use my insulated Yeti bucket and my new rechargeable @Engel-Coolers aerator. Next up is the meat and potatoes. Quality rods and reels will go a long way when pier fishing. Watch as I break down the different gear for specific fishing needs. How to Setup a BIG Snook Rod & Reel for Beginners! Joshua Taylor 2023-03-05 | Here is a tutorial on how to setup a big snook rod and reel for beginners. A larger spinning reel is recommended, typically a 5000 or larger. I chose the Okuma Salina 6000 equipped with a 7ft 20-40lb class Okuma PCH fishing rod. My line of choice is the 50lb Spro braid and a 50lb Spro Fluorocarbon leader. I explain why I use a monofilament backing when spooling my spinning reels and why spooling your new line with the proper technique is important. The knots you'll need for this rigging are the Arbor knot, the Uni knot for conjoining lines, and the loop knot for your lures. Cut Pinfish Help Overcome Challenging Winter Fishing Joshua Taylor 2023-01-28 | In this video, I let you in on a personal baptism, and then we venture out into Tampa Bay using cut pinfish to help overcome challenging winter fishing conditions. Bait was scarce on this trip, but luckily, using a sabiki tipped with shrimp, we were able to catch a couple of dozen pinfish and sand perch. The tide was expected to be a bit higher, and it was a later tide. We went searching in deep holes near the mangrove for some red gold. I was able to connect with a healthy sub-thirty-inch redfish, but the bite was an absolute grind. Chris on the other hand caught his favorite species, the hard head catfish. Greg only had this time slot open because it was when Megan (His daughter was in town). This trip consisted of post-front conditions, but the front that came through was one of the coldest in many years. It dropped the water temperature from 72 degrees to the low fifties. Higher winds and terrible tides made it more challenging, but we still sent it. Snapper Fishing Tampa Bay Using the Knocker Rig Joshua Taylor 2022-09-18 | In this episode, we had originally planned to grouper fish using Spro bucktail jigs. However, the fish weren't cooperating, and we had to revert to plan b. Therefore we caught some live bait to target snapper just in case and luckily it paid off. So, the episode turned into a "how to catch snapper video" We caught a nice selection of greenbacks and pinfish, and boy, the grey snapper was chewing. I was using the nice medium action Okuma SRT, paired with the Okuma Cedros 4000. This setup really works well for these pesky mangrove snappers.
