A 28-year-old pal of Elmer (Trigger) Burke—the second buddy of the notorious gunman to be grabbed by cops in less than a week—was jailed in lieu of bail yesterday despite some fast shuttling between courts by his attorney.
James E. Sexton, of 211 W. 87th Street, was arraigned in Felony Court before Magistrate John P. X. Masterson on charges of receiving a stolen gun and violating the Sullivan Law.
He had been arrested at 6:55 a.m. Wednesday in a taxicab at Eighth Avenue and 18th Street. Police said he had with him a .38 caliber revolver stolen from Eugene Kornberg during a stickup at 839 12th Avenue last September, and a .45-caliber German automatic. He told the cops he had an “appointment” to sell the gun, they said.
Ignores Defense Plea
Assistant District Attorney Victor Cosmelli demanded $30,000 bail on the receiving charge. Masterson set bail at $10,000 on the receiving rap, and $2,500 on the Sullivan Law count.

Timeless Mysteries 2025-08-05 | Between 1963 and 1965 in Manchester, England, serial killers Ian Brady and Myra Hindley lured five children to their deaths on windswept Saddleworth Moor. This British true crime case became known as the infamous Moors Murders, leaving an entire nation traumatized.

Over the course of 1963-1965, their murder spree claimed five child victims – Pauline Reade, John Kilbride, Keith Bennett, Lesley Ann Downey, and Edward Evans – aged between 10 and 17. Pauline Reade (16) disappeared on her way to a dance in July 1963, the first to fall prey. Months later, 12-year-old John Kilbride went missing from a market. In June 1964, Keith Bennett (12) was abducted while walking to his grandmother’s house. And on Boxing Day 1964, 10-year-old Lesley Ann Downey was lured away from a fairground. Brady and Hindley were finally caught in October 1965 when Myra’s brother-in-law witnessed them murdering 17-year-old Edward Evans and alerted police.

Brady and Hindley were convicted in 1966 and received life sentences, ensuring they could never harm anyone again.
