How Dark Souls 3 Speedrunners SMASH Champion’s Gravetender MattApocaalypse 2025-03-19 | How Dark Souls 3 Speedrunners SMASH Champion’s GravetenderNPC Bosses are some of the most tedious bosses to deal with in Dark Souls 3 speedruns but thanks to a newer skip, speedrunners have found a way to literally get the drop on Champion's Gravetender.As the boss is locked in his stand up animation you are able to get a couple free hits before starting a combo that stun locks him for the start of the fight. This combo when aimed correctly will also deal with the wolf that spawns in shortly after you start the fight. Ideally the boss should backstep and do his phase change animation but that doesn't always immediately happen. For a short window of time the same combo we open with will work to finish the first enemy and the small wolves can be dealt with quite quickly.This gives a little bit of time to apply a damage buff as the great wolf approaches. In the most favorable situation you will trade with the double bite attack and trigger the wolf's second phase. Here is one that I think you might like: The Putrescent Cleaver. Putrescent Cleaver is a considered a great axe. So it does big hitting attacks that do big poise damage. It reminds me a mezzaluna chef knife which is pretty badass. This weapon scales with strength, dexterity, and arcane. Kind of strange because I am pretty sure frost build up scales with intelligence. My favorite thing about this weapon is the ash of war. It is very fun to use while stacking as much poise as possible to ensure that you don't get interrupted. You are forced to play with whatever it gives you and that can lead to some creative decks. This deck ends up with a few different win conditions for different encounters. This run was fun because it utilizes a lot of specific relics and card choices rather than one over arcing plan. Act 4 solve in this fight was really fun. This is a high risk high reward start to most of the characters in slay the spire. I'd argue that the ironclad is one of the better characters to do this on but missing out on that extra bit of sustain feels like quite a burden at the start of the run. One of the risks of clicking boss swap is getting the relic: tiny house. This relic barely does anything at all. If I were to take a tiny house, it would be at the start of the run. a card reward, gold, upgrade, potion, and bonus health all are great buffs to a run start. You usually do this by using weaken, strength reduction, and my personal favorite intangible. There is an Act 2 event that lets you acquire the apparition colorless card. The trade off is pretty steep as it reduces your health by quite a bit. Apparitions give you 1 turn of intangible which makes all sources of damage hit you for 1.
