Is This Site Part Of The Centralia Mine Fire? Dalton Drone and Discovery Zone 2023-11-03 | In this video we head back up to Pennsylvania coal country. We're looking for another underground coal seam fire that is reported to be burning since the early 2000's. Rob Manch of Channel 69 news reported on this fire earlier this year (we crossed paths during the coverage of the Danelo Cavalcante prisoner escape). This is a bit of a mystery fire as nobody knows how it started or if it's connected to the Centralia fire which is only a short distance away to the west. We'll make use of the drone to give you an idea of how close this fire is to Centralia. The Pennsylvania DEP knows about this fire. Right now they're just monitoring it. Could it eventually threaten the village of Raven Run and the larger town of Shenandoah just to the east? Nobody is saying at this point in time. Escaped Convict Danelo Cavalcante Day 12 Dalton Drone and Discovery Zone 2023-09-13 | A lot has happened since my last video. The escaped killer has gotten a lot closer to my house. As I upload this video on 9/12/ 2023, Cavalcante was confronted by a homeowner who then shot at the escaped killer with a pistol. Cavalcante got away unharmed but not before procuring a .22 caliber scoped rifle. The homeowner was unharmed. We are all on edge as the killer is now armed. A Destroyed Phantom 4 Pro Rebuild Dalton Drone and Discovery Zone 2023-03-26 | Yes, we are rebuilding another Phantom 4 Pro. This one is a full shell replacement unlike the last one. We run into a hiccup with this one pertaining to one of the obstacle sensors. I'll leave a link to that video in the comments. Rear obstacle sensor replacement Phantom 4 Pro Dalton Drone and Discovery Zone 2023-03-11 | We encounter a torn rear obstacle sensor cable while rebuilding this Phantom 4 Pro, not unusual considering the severe damage this poor drone suffered. I still love the Phantom 4 Pro, great camera, very good flight characteristics and can be restored even after suffering severe damage. Most parts are still available although that may change going forward. No worries about bound accounts either when buying used. A Visit To The Once Abandoned JW Cooper School Dalton Drone and Discovery Zone 2023-03-04 | We head up into Pennsylvania's anthracite coal region to the small town of Shenandoah. There resides an old treasure of a building that was a joy for my wife and I to explore. The JW Cooper School was built in 1917 but it's opening was delayed because of the Spanish Flu outbreak of 1918. During this time it was used as a hospital and morgue. After many years of service it was finally closed in 1994. It has suffered from neglect and abandonment until recently when new owner Kent Steinmetz has vowed to restore it and turn it into a community center and food bank. Wow! Smoke And Steam Spotted All Over Centralia Dalton Drone and Discovery Zone 2023-02-27 | We were in the area for another video shoot so I thought we'd stop by Centralia, Pennsylvania once again. It was a cold day so smoke and steam should be readily visible and boy was it! If you're not familiar with the town that once was Centralia, it was evacuated due to an underground mine fire accidently started in 1962. Riding The Bafang BBS02 Electric Bike Conversion Dalton Drone and Discovery Zone 2022-12-03 | It's time to try out my Trek 820 bike that I converted to electric. The kit is a Bafang BBS02 kit bought off of Ebay. The battery was also bought off of Ebay. I'll include an Amazon link below though. Please make sure you purchase a battery with brand named cells, Panasonic, LG or Samsung. A new chain was installed also as this motor has a fair amount of torque and might cause an old worn out chain to fail. The additional Brake sensor and gear shift sensor were bought from Amazon. Lets Fly The Old Mavic Pro - Remains Of Embreeville State Hospital Dalton Drone and Discovery Zone 2022-07-26 | It's been a while.....but I felt it was time to dig out the old Mavic Pro and give it some flight time to see how it compares to DJI's newer drones like the Mavic Air 2 or the Air 2s. I must say it can still hold it's own with good flight time, decent flight characteristics and good video. This drone can still be used today for YouTube and real estate sales with no issues. Wells Falls, Ithaca, New York - DJI Mavic Mini Dalton Drone and Discovery Zone 2022-06-23 | Check out Wells Falls, sometimes called Businessman's Lunch Falls. The falls are 65 ft high including the 30 ft high man-made dam. The abandoned building that juts out from the cliff wall was (I believe) a water pumping plant for the city of Ithaca that dates back to the late 1800's. We dust off the DJI Mini, the Mini that started all the Mini's, for this explore. Most off my drones were drones obtained broken to complete "how to" repair videos. Completely Abandoned in 2001 because of financial reasons, this was a school for disadvantaged and troubled youth. Abandoned Amusement Park Explore By Drone - DJI Mini 2 Dalton Drone and Discovery Zone 2022-04-17 | Let's check out an abandoned amusement/picnic park. I am told be a colleague that this was once a full fledged amusement park called "Lenape Park" complete with roller coaster and fun house and was popular in the 1970's. Over the years it was gradually reduced to a picnic park. For something different I decided to explore the park by drone only, staying just outside the park boundaries. The Mini 2 just had a firmware update so this was a good test, albeit a little dangerous. There were a couple of "white knuckle" moments. Did I come out with an unscathed drone? A visit To The Abandoned Mining Town Of Rausch Gap In Saint Anthonys Wilderness Dalton Drone and Discovery Zone 2021-12-21 | We dust off the bikes (it's been a while) and head down the Stony Valley Rail Trail. The area is known as St Anthony's Wilderness after Moravian Missionaries who arrived in the eighteenth century to spread the Gospel. This is the second largest roadless area in Pennsylvania and the unspoiled forest is a reminder of what our state looked like many years ago. The area was home to a number of now abandoned coal and lumber producing villages and at least one resort town.
