Noel Kelehan Conductor - RTE Documentary Michael Bermingham 2026-05-11 | A 2012 retrospective on the life of Noel Kelehan. (26 December 1935 – 6 February 2012) Noel was an Irish musician, conductor of the RTÉ Concert Orchestra and musical director of Radio Telefís Éireann. He retired as conductor in 1998. As well as being an accomplished jazz pianist, he was most famous for being the conductor of many Irish entries to the Eurovision Song Contest, beginning in 1966 and ending in 1998. He conducted five winning Irish entries, in 1980, 1987, 1992, 1993, and 1996.

Later in the decade I was working in Dublin and did some broadcasting for another pirate ABC radio, finally settling in Longford and rejoining Shannonside which by then had grown to a two station network that included Northern Sound FM.This might be described as a compilation of my ‘best bits’ from the decade thus serving as a retrospective of those years.

It was a tandem dive but took so long on the day to train for I could have done a solo dive and been away in less time. I remember being tied so tight to my tandem buddy I was almost breathless for the entire thing. It was exhilarating but is over in a flash once you dive from the plane. Still, it's the closest you get to flying so I'm glad I did it.

The video was recorded and produced by Fabian Murphy of @murphyvideos . We were both presenters on a border pirate called KLAS Radio at the time. Before smartphones and YouTube, this was made on a handheld video camera (like Marty in Back to the Future) and after editing transferred to VHS tapes for distribution by hand or post. Our climate is still of concern all these years later.

Olymberyl Aidan Riddler Repair Michael Bermingham 2023-12-23 | The grate was falling down on one side and the riddler wouldn't work.I could see nothing in the Olymberyl stoves user manual to help.On the web I could only find spare parts for sale and some videos on general cleaning and maintenance, but nothing that could guide me.So, I had to figure it out for myself and wanted to pass on what I concluded and did.I hope it's of some use to somebody.The riddler bar knob at the front of the stove is connected to a rod.This rod is connected inside the stove to a flat bar on one end. The flat bar is connected to the riddler grate by a bolt and nut assembly on the other end.Mine was loose and there was no longer a tight fit meaning the rod and bar weren't able to push the riddler grate effectively.In my case the nut would only turn back and forth a little so I couldn't tighten it. After oiling it with WD40 and using a ratchet I was able to get it to tighten flush to the bar.The attached amateur video shows some of the process.Michael Bermingham - December 2023
