(19th January 2020) Mark Sykes 2022-10-26 | January 2020 saw the hosting of a special one-off concert, The Spark Of Creation, celebrating the works of Stephen Schwartz. Stephen has been responsible for creating some of musical theatre's most enduring shows and songs, with a CV that includes Godspell, Pippin, Enchanted, The Prince Of Egypt, Wicked, RAGS, Pocahontas, The Baker's Wife, and Children Of Eden.As the show drew to a close, Stephen gave a rare live performance of one of musical theatre's most iconic songs - For Good, from Wicked.The concert itself featured a stellar line-up from the West End: Simbi Akinde, Sam Attwater, Luke Bayer, Alice Fearn, Soophia Foroughi, Natalie Green, Laura Harrison, Emma Hatton, Carolyn Maitland, Genevieve Nicole, and Andrew Patrick Walker. The Prince Of Egypt - London re-opening nights curtain call, 1st July 2021. Dominion Theatre. Mark Sykes 2021-07-02 | The Prince of Egypt, as with the rest of the West End, was forced to closed its doors in March 2020 when the corona-virus took hold and the country went into lockdown. Fifteen long months later, this new musical re-opened its doors and welcomed audiences again for the first time. An emotional evening ended with a very special curtain call, with producers Michael McCabe and Neil Laidlaw giving lovely speeches and recognising the entire company (on-stage, off-stage, theatre staff) who had all come together to bring this show back. This wonderful tribute brought a fabulous evening to a close. The memories will live long in the memory. Christie Prades - An appreciation of an amazing actress and an incredible person Mark Sykes 2019-09-06 | So, a week on from the end of the London run of On Your Feet!, the memories remain fresh and the emotions still a little bit raw. Having chatted with new friends Jo and Cerri about the show, I've decided to put a few final thoughts down in writing…For me, this summer will be forever remembered for the shining light that is Christie Prades. Initially having only one show booked, within 15 minutes of Act 1 on 2nd July the tears started rolling down my cheeks as Christie sung Anything For You - and I immediately realised that I was witnessing someone very special. Meeting Christie at stage door that first time confirmed that she was not only an amazing talent on stage, but also an all-round incredible person. I subsequently ended up seeing the show 7 times with Christie in it!Across those 7 shows I did many updates on Twitter/Instagram/YouTube, and the feedback I got from people really touched my heart - people who were complete strangers but whose paths had crossed with Christie, and who also recognised the extraordinary person that she is. And of course, the messages from her mother Gertrudis Prades were so kind and heartfelt that they touched me deeply.So life after OYF is now beginning to return to normal! Although I'm super excited to once more be visiting New York next month, with a number of Broadway shows already booked, I obviously can't wait until Christie has another show that I can go and see!!But I wanted to end this final message about my experience of London's On Your Feet! be specifically about Christie. Christie may have returned home to the US, but she has left behind not only a host of new fans with many exceptional memories to treasure, but she has helped create new friendships this summer - and that's another special gift she has given us.This video is an amalgamation of my thoughts on a show-by-show basis, interjected with some of Christie's personal behind-the-scenes moments on Instagram. Soophia Foroughi and the cast of Broken Wings - Spirit Of The Earth (LIve at Zedel, 21st Aug 2019) Mark Sykes 2019-08-22 | Wednesday 21st August 2019 saw Nadim Namaan perform an intimate concert at Crazy Coqs (Brasserie Zedel, London). Nadim co-wrote the musical Broken Wings with Dana Al Fardan, and for the finale of the evening one of the main songs from the show was performed - Spirit Of The Earth. Lead by original cast members Soophia Foroughi and Nadim, they were joined on stage by members of the recent production that took place in Lebanon - Hannah Qureshi, Bethany Weaver, Jake Stewart, Ben Purkiss - as well as another of Nadim's special guests that evening Will Barratt. Joe Davison, who performed the original orchestrations for Broken Wings, is playing piano.
Liisi LaFontaine - In Case You Dont Live Forever (Live at Piano Works, London - 14th July 2019) Mark Sykes 2019-07-28 | Liisi LaFontaine, who in November 2016 made her West End debut playing the role of Deena Jones in the West End production of Dreamgirls, returned to London 18 months after leaving the show to perform her first solo gig in the UK. Here is Liisi's heartbreaking performance of Ben Platt's In Case You Don't Live Forever in memory of her late father. It was an emotional song that not only had Liisi in tears, it had the audience in tears as well. This is such a beautiful tribute. Sending love to Liisi and her family.
