1969 was the year that John & Yoko intensified their long running campaign for World Peace. They approached the task with the same entrepreneurial expertise as an advertising agency selling a brand of soap powder to the masses. BED PEACE (directed by Yoko & John and filmed by Nic Knowland) is a document of the Montreal events from 26-31 May 1969, and features John & Yoko in conversation with, amongst others, The World Press, satirist Al Capp, activist Dick Gregory, comedian Tommy Smothers, protesters at Berkeley's People's Park, Rabbi Abraham L. ----------------------------------------------------------------------HAPPY BIRTHDAY YOKO!Yoko Ono2023-02-17 | wishtreeforyokoono.com 🏷️🌲✨♥️ To celebrate Yoko Ono’s 90th birthday on 18 February 2023, Sean Ono Lennon has made a virtual ‘Wish Tree’ for people all over the world to post their wishes online and (in association with One Tree Planted) plant real trees in Yoko’s honor. We hope to gather as many wishes and plant as many trees as possible to honor this incredible woman.
The website launches publicly on Yoko’s birthday, 18 Feb 2023, at www.wishtreeforyokoono.com. Please share this link with your friends and followers. To find out more about Yoko’s original ‘Wish Tree’ installations and the IMAGINE PEACE TOWER, her tribute to John, go to imaginepeacetower.com.
‘Wish Tree for Yoko Ono’ has been realised by James Swindells and Loud Beings for Sean Ono Lennon.Anohni & Yoko: I Love You Earth (4K)Yoko Ono2022-04-22 | I LOVE YOU EARTH There are so many of us in the world who are now awakened, ready to act to save our world. So let’s work together to save this planet. Together. That’s how we will change the world. We change, and the world changes. Have trust in what you can do. Have trust in how fast we can change our world for the better. Why? Because we have to. Believe that we are one and together we will make it. Love is what connects all lives on Earth. love, yoko
Written by Yoko Ono, Anohni and Yoko’s duet 'I Love You Earth' is both an Instruction Piece and a powerful affirmation. It is a protest song of imagination, peace and love.
With shimmering vocals and perfect acceptance, Anohni loves everything about the Earth and the way the Earth is. Yoko loves the sky, the wind, rivers, mountains, all species and the forests that give us oxygen to breathe. The Earth is a world of amazing biodiversity. As we lose more and more of nature, the climate grows more unstable, putting all species at risk. Yoko wants to scream. Instead, she sings with love and a voice like the hush of home.
'I Love You Earth' is a lullaby, a love song for planet Earth, our beautiful and much-loved home. Anohni and Yoko pay homage to the Earth at this turning point in the climate crisis. A point at which we must act now to repay our love for the planet that has done so much to nurture us. Yoko’s song and film, made in collaboration and support for The Rainforest Trust, reminds us that ‘together we can love the Earth and save the world’.
During lockdown Sage Gateshead commissioned four stellar international artists, Anohni and Yoko Ono, John Grant, Moor Mother and Tune-Yards, to each create a new music film reflecting their experience of the climate crisis and pandemic. Release of the new music films coincides with COP26, the annual United Nations global summit to tackle climate change. This year's climate summit, held in Glasgow, is being described as the last chance for governments to commit to the change needed to prevent climate catastrophe.
Variations is a quartet of musical variations on themes of covid variants, that sent the world into lockdown, and climate variations that could tip the Earth's systems into an uninhabitable state. Four songs with accompanying films by four artists that express love for the Earth, all species and the air we breathe. The songs are an expression of grief and loss for the world we had that has changed, a testimony of injustice and a plea to work together, to imagine change and act now.

-----------------------------------------Kishin Shinoyama, John Lennon & Yoko Ono - Double FantasyYoko Ono2015-02-07 | Find out more at Taschen: http://bit.ly/KSJLYO Renowned for his sensual, provocative images, Kishin Shinoyama is one of Japan’s most controversial and acclaimed artists, at once hailed by critics and charged for public indecency. Photographing everything from antiques to porn stars, Shinoyama is particularly recognized for his work with pop icons and celebrities, and the rare, private moments he captures with very public personalities. Through his lens, world-famous faces often reveal an unexpected openness and vulnerability.
This capacity for ease and intimacy is perhaps most poignantly expressed in his beautiful series of photographs of Yoko Ono and John Lennon, shot at Ono’s request for the cover and promotion of the couple’s celebrated 1980 album, Double Fantasy, just three months before Lennon’s untimely death. Now, over 30 years later, these images—many of them never seen before—still resonate with a remarkable freshness and honesty, immortalizing the iconic couple at a pivotal moment in their personal and creative relationship.
Limited to a total of 1,980 numbered copies signed by Yoko Ono and Kishin Shinoyama, this book is available as Collector’s Edition (No. 251-1,980), and also in two Art Editions of 125 copies each, with a pigment print signed by Kishin Shinoyama.ONO featuring Dave Audé - Hold Me (Dave Audé Original Album Mix)Yoko Ono2014-04-03 | OUT NOW on iTunes itunes.apple.com/album/hold-me-remixes-part-1-feat./id597630823
Yoko Ono's dynamic, uncompromising and, often controversial career has spanned more than 5 decades and has seen Ono expand from vilified outsider artist, socio-political revolutionary and progenitor of punk and New York's famed Downtown art scene to now include global peace ambassador, philanthropic contributor to the Arts and Billboard Dance chart-topping diva.
In the past two decades, the boundless art-rock visionary has opened up her catalog of original works to be cleverly reinvented by a cherry-picked assemblage of dance, electronic and indie/alternative music innovators including PET SHOP BOYS, FLAMING LIPS, BASEMENT JAXX, DANNY TENAGLIA, PENGUIN PRISON, JUAN MACLEAN, FELIX DA HOUSECAT, PEACHES, ANTONY (of ANTONY AND THE JOHNSONS), SPARKS, CSS, HANK SHOCKLEE, CAT POWER, JUNIOR BOYS, BIMBO JONES, and THE POLYPHONIC SPREE. To date, the groundbreaking remix series has spawned nine #1 BILLBOARD HOT DANCE CLUB PLAY chart-topping hits including TALKING TO THE UNIVERSE, MOVE ON FAST, WOULDNIT (I'M A STAR), GIVE ME SOMETHING, I'M NOT GETTING ENOUGH, GIVE PEACE A CHANCE, NO NO NO, EVERYMAN / EVERYWOMAN and the definitive anthem WALKING ON THIN ICE, as well as, 2 critically-acclaimed remix albums -- YES, I'M A WITCH and OPEN YOUR BOX.
ONO kicked off the 2013 New Year with a fiery new dance single HOLD ME - a searing collaboration co-written and produced by EDM A-lister DAVE AUDÉ (whose discography includes remixes and productions for U2, Madonna, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Ke$ha, Rihanna, Britney Spears, Depeche Mode, Coldplay and Pussycat Dolls, and an unprecedented 83 #1 Billboard Club Play Chart hits). The single finds ONO as vibrant and compelling as ever, continuing her streak of dance floor and club chart domination.
While her previous club hits have been star-studded reworkings of her classic material, "HOLD ME" is an entirely new song co-written by ONO and Dave, tailor-made for dance floors, and filled with her vivid lyrical imagery. Combined with Audé's midas touch for solid, contemporary club anthems, the collaboration is an inspired one that sheds a new light on ONO and adds a strikingly new dimension to her illustrious career.
Enlisted for remixes are Grammy Award-winning producer RALPHI ROSARIO, premiere Dutch DJ/producer R3HAB, sweltering progressive house collective PAPERCHA$ER, Spain's IVAN GOMEZ & NACHO CHAPADO, Brazilian electro house/dubstep heavyweights DIRTY LOUD, electro nu-rave legend TOMMIE SUNSHINE and Boston-based wunderkind EMJAE (aka DJ/producer/remixer Matt Johnson of Nightriders and The Night Owl), all of whom deliver adrenalin-fueled bangers that keep the emotion and energy levels high. In addition to his original production, Audé himself also contributes to the collective of vibrant interpretations.
HOLD ME will be available as two separate digital green releases (no materials used or abused) on MIND TRAIN / TWISTED Records issued in February on iTunes and at all fine digital retailers.IMAGINE PEACE TOWER time lapse video - night of 19 Nov 2013.Yoko Ono2013-11-20 | Think PEACE, Act PEACE, Spread PEACE. Started by Yoko Ono and Sean Lennon, Artists Against Fracking is a group of artists, musicians, and filmmakers dedicated to bringing attention to the damages and environmental consequences of hydraulic fracturing.
"Right now, some people are trying to make easy money, and meanwhile ruin this country's future, by a thing called 'fracking." -- Yoko Ono
Yoko Ono and her son Sean Lennon were compelled into action by Governor Andrew Cuomo's announcement that fracking might soon begin in New York -- directly impacting their home in upstate New York. In less than 10 days, they gathered nearly 150 fellow artists to join them in the founding of Artists Against Fracking in August 2012.
Today, at nearly 200 members Artists Against Fracking works to expose and stop the harmful and contaminating practice of fracking for natural gas and oil through mass awareness and peaceful democratic action. At its core, we believe that fracking for shale gas is a danger to New Yorkers. Inevitably, the process leads to the release of toxic chemicals — many of which are unknown and unreported — into our air and water.
"Though my father died when I was 5, I have always felt lucky to live on land he loved dearly; land in an area that is now on the verge of being destroyed."

The idea that a smile had the power to heal occurred to Yoko Ono in the days after her husband, Beatles singer John Lennon, was murdered. NBC's Lester Holt and Ono smile together in this report about Ono's new project about smiles.
We close with a story tonight that just might give you a reason to smile. The power of a smile is the basis of a new art project on exhibit here in London. It is the work of a woman you likely know well who after suddenly losing her husband found the answer to healing her pain was written across her face.
NBC: There is more than just the olympics and a break from the rain that has Londoners smiling these days. The whole world is smiling this light hearted project on display at the serpentine gallery , the hope of artist Yoko Ono when she mused on the idea.
YOKO ONO: I envisioned the whole world smiling together.
NBC: The idea that a smile had the power to heal really took hold for Ono in the days and months after the murder of her husband back when it seemed there could never be anything to smile about.
YOKO ONO: Every day in the morning when I see the mirror I try to smile. It is very hard. In the beginning it was so phony. But then I started to really smile.
NBC: She calls the project hash tag #smilesfilm. There was no public internet or twitter back when she started thinking about it. Technology has caught up ask and Ono is asking people to snap a picture and smile.
YOKO ONO: If we all start to smile in the world something will happen. I think that it will be better for the world maybe.
NBC: Featured in the gallery exhibit a slow motion film of Lennon breaking into a smile. Over the years Ono has dedicated herself to peace, a message she shared with her husband. The two famously staged a Bed-In for Peace in 1969. In 2011 she created the IMAGINE PEACE TOWER in Iceland. She said she likes to think John is smiling about smiles but it is not hard to.
NBC: You think John is smiling with us now?
YOKO ONO: He would love it. It is the kind of thing he liked.
NBC: Ready?
YOKO ONO: Okay. I like this.
NBC: Maybe it is true. When you smile the whole world really does smile with you.
International Widows Day is the UN's annual global day of action to address the poverty and injustice faced by millions of widows and their dependents in many countries. It takes place on 23 June.
International Widows Day was initiated by the Loomba Foundation in 2005 and officially recognised by the United Nations General Assembly, on a motion by the Government of Gabon, on 22 December 2010.
The significance of 23 June is that this is the day, in 1954, that the woman who inspired the founding of the Loomba Foundation, Shrimati Pushpa Wati Loomba, became a widow.
When the Loomba Foundation was founded in 1997, its focus initially was on relieving the desperate plight of poor widows and their children in India -- and this remains a very important objective. Founder Raj Loomba soon came to realise however that this problem is by no means confined to India alone. "I was shocked to discover that widowhood was a huge problem not only in India, but across Africa," he explained to WidowsVoice.org. "They were losing husbands through HIV, through genocide, through conflict, and they were becoming destitute. They were not looked after by governments or NGOs and they were shunned by society. It's such a big problem, and yet nothing has been done. Nobody in the world, including the United Nations, had ever addressed the problem of widows."
In Africa, too, the problem is more deep-rooted than current devastations like genocide and HIV. Attitudes are founded in traditions and so-called 'customary laws'.
In 2005, Loomba Foundation president Cherie Blair launched International Widows Day at the House of Lords in London and over the next five years, the Foundation campaigned for international recognition of this day as a focus for sustained, effective, global action to bring about a radical and lasting transformation in the plight of widows. In 2006 the Loomba Foundation held an international conference on the topic at the Foreign Office in London, addressed by widows from ten countries as well as Cherie Blair, Hillary Clinton, Indian cabinet minister Renuka Chowdhury, Yoko Ono and Commonwealth Secretary-General Don McKinnon. The Foundation established offices in America and Canada and organised meetings at the United Nations, gaining the attention and support of leaders like Rwandan president Dr Paul Kagame and the former UN secretary-general Kofi Annan.
The big problem with the cause was its invisibility. Governments, NGOs, international organisations -- all neglected the issue because so very little was known about it. The Loomba Foundation initiated and supported an investigative programme with writers, researchers and institutions including Chatham House and in 2010, Vijay Dutt's Invisible Forgotten Sufferers was published with research by Risto Harma: the first comprehensive research study of the plight of widows around the world.
Backed with that hard information, support for UN recognition grew. President Ali Bongo Ondimba of Gabon and his wife Madame Sylvia Bongo Ondimba, threw their weight behind the campaign and on 22 December 2011, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution from Gabon officially recognising 23 June as International Widows Day.
