Winterberg Toboggan Run - Full POV Run shot with Olympus PEN E-P3. No Brakes! Jack the Hat Photographic 2012-11-02 | Here I am testing out our newly acquired Olympus PEN EP-3 mirrorless camera in Winterberg, Germany. We had a great day in extremely cold conditions (-12 celcius with windchill). The toboggan run was an ideal opportunity to have a play with the video function on this camera. Due to holding the camera with both hands it was impossible to use the brake on the cart so this run is at full speed. It was a bit nerve-wracking on a couple of the corners to say the least!The EP-3 uses an awkward AVCHD video format when shooting at 1080 resolution. It's a bit of a nightmare format to work with so I switched it to the lower resolution AVI format for this clip. The quality is still nice though, and the built in image stabilisation does an excellent job of smoothing out the vibrations.

In this video we show how simple it is to use your flashgun off camera with the help of a cheap optical slave trigger unit. These slaves can connect directly to the hot shoe of your flash or can be connected using a standard flash sync cable. When the "eye" of the slave detects a flash it triggers the flash it is connected to instantaneously. They do not require batteries and have no moving parts which makes them very robust and reliable. Each unit has a standard 1/4" tripod mounting thread on the base.
European Brown Bears - A Photographic Slideshow Jack the Hat Photographic 2012-06-06 | Back in 2005 I was lucky enough to be able to go on a trip to the border of Russia and Finland with top British wildlife photographer Andy Rouse. Deep in the forest, we sat in a wooden hide for two nights in the hope of being able to see and photograph European Brown Bear in the wild. Most of these photos were taken after midnight thanks to the midnight sun in that part of the world.Unfortunately I had just "upgraded" from 35mm film to an early model DSLR so the quality of many of the shots is, frankly, embarrassing by todays standards. My slideshow making skills also left something to be desired back then. Nevertheless, I hope you enjoy the images.
