I Was Caught in a Taliban Parade in Afghanistan Dave Mani 2025-09-27 | This was not something I planned for during my trip around Afghanistan but today is the 4th anniversary of the liberation day after the Taliban took over the Capital City of Kabul from the Americans. Within the last few days, I have noticed the flags going up around the country in addition to additional security and check points on the roads.As soon as I left my hotel in Mazar-e-Sharif we started to see military vehicle mainly American Humvees with the Taliban flag and people marching, chanting and celebrating throughout the city. It was quite something to see, something hard to understand in a way for a Westerner like me. But since I was there and witnessed it, I decided to document it as well.On the other side, Mazar-e-Sharif is a very important and large city in the Northern part of Afghanistan. Apart from the famous Blue Mosque, one of the most beautiful in the country, this city has a rich history and full of life with it's markets, bazaars, street food, restaurants and so much more. Make sure to go see the famous Kabuli man while in Mazar-e-Sharif and have some delicious Mantu at the women runned restaurant.Otherwise, since my flight back to Kabul got cancelled, I took an 11hrs bus ride from Mazar-e-Sharif all the way back to Kabul through the mountains which was quite an experience.If you ever wanted to visit Afghanistan then I couldn't recommend Let's Go Afghanistan enough. The Afghanistan They Dont Want You to See Dave Mani 2025-09-20 | The Bamyan Province is of of the most beautiful area in the whole of Afghanistan. A place with incredible landscape, friendly Afghans and lakes with the bluest water you will ever see!Our adventure around Bamyan started at the Band-e Amir National Park, Afghanistan's first National Park. This is where we saw the largest lake in Afghanistan named Band-e Haibat. All the lakes there have such a deep blue color, something I have never seen anywhere else around the world. Are women allowed in this National Park, the answer is sadly no but I personally saw many women walking around Band-e Amir so I sadly don't have a straight answer...From there, we made it to the city of Bamyan where we will be staying for a night. Our first stop was Shahr-e Gholghola also known the City of Screams, a beautiful ancient city worth walking around.If you are looking for a more challenging but more rewarding city ruins site then head to Shahr-e Zohak also known as the Red City due to the color of the mountains it was built on. Climbing to the top of this mountain was quite a challenge, especially while wearing the official Afghan footweare, flip flops. But walking up Zohak offers some incredible view of Bamyan and has you walk through incredible historical site.Finally, I was able to explore the Bamyan Buddha Statues. They literally left me alone to walk up and around them and it was amazing. Sadly those statues were destroyed a few years back by the Talibans but even seeing the ruins is a sight you don't want to miss.After a short night in our Bamyan Guesthouse, it was time to hit the road once again and head toward Mazar-e Sharif in the Northern part of Afghanistan. On the way there, we drove across the Salang tunnel, one of the highest tunnel in the world that took us through the Hindu Kush Mountains before arriving to Takht-e Rostam.After a quick stop to the melon market, we arrived in Mazar-e Sharif where our car broke down...If you ever wanted to visit Afghanistan then I couldn't recommend Let's Go Afghanistan enough. 3 Days on Afghanistans MOST DANGEROUS ROAD Dave Mani 2025-09-13 | Today, we are embarking on an extreme journey on Afghanistan's most dangerous road that will take us from the city of Herat through the mountains all the way to the Bamyan Province.Very quickly after leaving the city of Herat the paved roads transformed into sandy and rocky roads going through some of the most remotes terrains I had ever seen. We made many stops during the day for food of course and some very local restaurants for eggs, kebabs, street food and more. Afghan food became some of my favorite cuisine around the world. After driving for almost 13 hours we made it to a small village surrounded by mountains. A place with no paved roads, no electricity and no signal. We slept in a small guesthouse to recharge and get ready for the next road trip day.On day 2 we explore the surrounding to the famous Minaret of Gems. A beautiful structure frozen in time that was once the icon of a town filled with life. We also gave a ride to a Taliban who was walking roadside... This is also the day when we had to help some other travellers who go into an accident. Thankfully, everyone was all right. We ended the day in a city called Chaghcharan for the night.Our third day is the own that took us to our final destination in the Bamyan Province of Afghanistan. A place with breathtaking landscape. I Explored the Real Afghanistan with a Local Dave Mani 2025-09-10 | Herat City is known to be one of the most liberal region of Afghanistan. A place where the harsh rules of this country are a little bit more relax where you can see families everywhere enjoying what Herat has to offer. Today we explore Herat with a local.The first thing I saw just across from my hotel was a fake Afghan McDonald's which I found hilarious. That aside, my first impressions of Herat were very different than what I saw and experience in the capital of Afghanistan, Kabul. It was Friday night which is most people's day off in Afghanistan so there was families everywhere enjoying some delicious Afghan street food including chickpeas, ice cream, samosas and all kinds of fruits. I visited Afghanistan during fruit season so those were delicious and everywhere. I was also lucky enough to watch a soccer of football game which is the national sport of Afghanistan.On my second day in Herat, we hit the ground running to see and experience as much as possible of what Herat City has to offer. We started at the Great Mosque of Herat, a beautiful structure taken care by generations of people mastering different crafts from sculpting to painting and more. From there we explored Jadea-i-Lelami Market, also known as Lelami Bazaar a place where people can by a lot of second hand item from clothing to shoes and household items. While walking around the bazaar you could see the famous Herat Citadel in the distance, a massive fort like structure acting as the epicentre of the city. This place was recently restore and looks fantastic.After a quick tuktuk ride, we started our food journey from a family run local restaurant to a very luxurious ice cream shop. Then a few hours back at the hotel to let the heat of the day pass.Khwaja Abd Allah Ansari Shrine is another beautiful maintained mosque in Herat which as a rich history in the Islamic world. Visiting this place at sunset mate it even more beautiful. Talking about sunset, do not miss the Roof of Herat which is an incredible view point of the city. To complete the history side of Herat, we walked around the Herat Minarets, a very impressive site world visiting.To end the night, some Afghan fast food before visiting the night school where kids go to learn a second language including english. Afghanistan is often seen as a country closed up to the rest of the world. Seeing one of those language school though really opened my eyes on this new generation that wants to widen their horizons and learning a new language like english is definitely opening new doors for them.Overall, Herat City is a beautiful place with a long history and deep culture that all started during the silk road days and still lives today. This is Nairobis BEST Steakhouse Dave Mani 2025-08-17 | After walking in front of the Local Grill dozens of time as it is conveniently located inside the Village Market Mall, we finally decided to go in for dinner. My only regret is not going to this steakhouse before!The restaurant has a very nice steakhouse look and ambiance with the open kitchen on the first floor and a nice bar on the second floor. The wood everywhere and darker tones really are a really nice touch.Our meal started with some delicious chicken and some of the best carpaccio we have ever had. With two glasses of red of course.From there, we went for a little surf and turf with Tracey getting a beautiful piece of salmon and myself going for a perfectly grilled T-bone steak.To end, we shared a piece of their sticky toffee pudding which is simply one of the best dessert in the whole world!Overall, an fantastic meal and experience as a whole. BREATHTAKING Road Trip Around the Cabot Trail of Nova Scotia Dave Mani 2025-08-09 | Cape Breton in Nova Scotia Canada is world famous for its Cabot Trail. A breathtaking road taking you some of the best scenery Atlantic Canada has to offer. Join us in our Cabot Trail road trip as we explore Cape Breton Island for the very first time.Our first day started at the Broad Cove Campground inside the Highlands National Park where we had breakfast before hitting the road. After stopping along the Highway 30 many times to enjoy the views, we made it to the most famous hike in Cape Breton the Skyline Trail. This fairly easy hike through the woods takes you to a beautiful view point overlooking the Atlantic ocean. For lunch we stopped at Rusty Anchor Restaurant for some true Nova Scotia seafood. While in the maritimes provinces, you have to try the mussels and of course the lobster roll! Tracey would also tell you to try Moon Mist ice cream...Our second day started bright and early as we really wanted to enjoy a beach sunrise and we got a good one. This beautiful camp is an ideal size with just a few cottage, a nice common area with lots of space to relax, a fireplace and even a beautiful pool and all of this with a stunning view of the Serengeti National Park.In East Africa especially, peak season has the best weather in the possibility to see the great migration between Tanzania and Kenya. This might sound great, but it is NOT worth it and here is why. During peak season, safari camp prices rises, there are hundreds of safari vehicle going on game drives at the same time every single day meaning that the animal always get surrounded. Good luck getting some nice photos. Yes, it is sunny but it is also very hot.While in low season, you will save tons of money as safari camp rates are much lower, the weather in terms of temperature is lovely but yes it will be raining sometimes but not all day every day. Some pockets of rain here and there. And the most important, low attendance in all National Parks and Game Reserves. We had incredible elephants and lion sightings during this safari and we were alone the entire time. We saw less than five other safari vehicles each time we were on a game drive which was incredible. It felt like we were alone because we kind of were!Keep in mind that the wildlife doesn't go anywhere during low season, they are still around. Apart from the wildebeest but trust us when we say that the great migration is not as magical as it may seem. That enough was worth th drive for me. But while there we also drove around Brecon Beacons which has scenic roads and thousands of sheep.Finally, on our last day before driving back to London to catch our flight, we took another road trip this time to North Wales. Our day started at the Harlech Castle, an impressive castle with a long story that you cannot miss during your time in Wales. After a quick Welsh fish and chips we headed to Pontcysyllte Aqueduct for one of my favorite activity of all times. 48hrs in Vietnams Most Beautiful City Dave Mani 2025-07-16 | Sapa located in North Vietnam is one of the most touristic town in the country and even though it is quite small, it doesn't disappoint.Let's start with accommodations. There are tons of hotels around but we highly suggest that would book a cottage like we did. The views you get from one of those is worth everything.
