Luckily I was told that it was, and it seems like it’s been included with various accessibility features. What type of film needs audio description? Part 2. Juan Alcazar 2023-06-10 | Another type of film that I believe has audio description lacking in is films from other countries and in other languages. . It’s a shame because there are many films and TV shows from other countries that rival what the US puts out. It’s interesting watching something from another country since they might approach certain stories and themes in a different way than what an American audience is used to, and I think that many blind folks are missing out on these. I mentioned Squid Game in this video because it’s an example of something from another country being audio described in English and being very watchable. Now I just hope that Parasite gets the same treatment since I’ve been wanting to watch that one ever since it was nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars a few years ago.

How do I check out the Stanley Cup Playoffs as a blind person? Juan Alcazar 2023-04-19 | I’ve been a fan of hockey for years, and I’ll admit that the best hockey is playoff hockey. Unfortunately due to my eye condition, I’m unable to watch games on TV anymore, and if I do attend games, I’m having to wear sunglasses due to the white ice surface being bothersome to my eyes.I do have a pretty good alternative though. When it’s playoff time, I use the NHL app to listen to whichever game I’m wanting to check out. I do have some thoughts about this though, and a concern as well.I know classic films aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, but I think it wouldn’t be fair if the well known classic films are left without any sort of access to blind viewers. How blind people view pictures online. #AltText #accessibility Juan Alcazar 2023-03-03 | As a screen reader user, I’m able to know what is in a picture on social media or the web by having my screen reader read back what is called alt text. Sadly, many images don’t have alt text included in them. The importance of having an image description for a picture can easily make a post or web page inaccessible. Imagine if someone pointed you to a website or document but the only thing that was visually there was just a title or heading followed by a blank page taking up the rest of the space. A blind guy’s thoughts on Mr. Beast curing 1,000 people’s blindness #blind #DisabilityAwareness Juan Alcazar 2023-02-07 | Here are my thoughts on the Mr. Beast video where a thousand legally blind people were treated for their cataracts. While I do think that what was done was a good thing, I do have an area of concern to bring up as well. It does make me happy to know that those who can be treated for a form of treatable and curable blindness like cataracts were able to get the procedure done. This however, doesn’t mean that all types of blindness can be treated in the same way. Blindness is a spectrum, and there are various other eye conditions that affect different parts of the eye. Here’s hoping that this does increase the conversation about blindness in general to increase education about it, as there are millions of people around the world who have some sort of visual impairment.

Would I be told to change my major because film and cinema are so heavily visual in the first place? It’s been one of those thoughts that I’ve had in the back of my mind ever since I first picked up a white cane and used a phone with a screen reader.

It comes in the form of an accompanying audio narration that explains the visual elements. Many of the companies providing AD employ a human narrator to record the Audio Description. Unfortunately, this isn't the case for every company providing AD. Some have resorted to using text-to-speech, a.k.a computer generated Audio Description. While this does have its place in certain areas, I do not believe it should be in most areas where a human narrator can do the job. Here, I share my thoughts on why I personally do not like text-to-speech AD and why I think it's important to have a person doing the narration.

While many things are not yet audio described, the amount of content that is available is still quite large and varied. Unless I know the location well, I might be wandering around a bit with my Maps app telling me I’m close, but those last few feet are always tricky when having to use GPS. iOS 16 released a new accessibility feature called “Door Detection” which is available on iPhone 12 Pro, 13 Pro, and 14 Pro models. I’ve tried this out recently, and it works surprisingly well. It was able to detect not just doors, but any writing and address numbers that were at, or near the door.

Legally blind actress Bree Klauser on her role in the Audible Original Phreaks. Juan Alcazar 2020-09-13 | Bree was on the show "See" from Apple TV+ last year in a supporting character role. This time however she's the lead character on a new Audible Original titled "Phreaks" where she plays Emma Gable, a blind teenager who discovers the world of phone phreaking (an early precursor to hacking) in the 1970's. "Phreaks" also stars Christian Slater, Carrie Coon, Ben McKenzie, and Justice Smith.
