I'm joined by Dawn for a medium long distance walk following the River Colne from Colchester to Brightlingsea. We passed through an area of Essex that I have never actually explored and it was truly amazing! We met up and camped with Andrew and Kelly from The Gr8 Outdoors 2022 channel who very kindly gave me some birthday presents, it being my 35th in a few days time since filming this. FREEZING COLD WILD CAMP ON THE ESSEX COAST | CHRISTMAS 2022 | MINUS TEMPERATURES AND ICE! TOM OUTDOORS 2022-12-22 | IT'S CHRISTMAASSS! Welcome to the Tom Outdoors Christmas Wild Camp special for 2022! You join myself and Luke from The Real Travelling Amigos channel on the Essex coast near Harwich and Dovercourt. It was a cold and frosty night (the UK has recently been through a very cold patch with minus temperatures and even some heavy snow!) but we stayed warm with a big campfire, hot food and drinks and mulled cider. We exchanged and opened presents and kept the attire festive with warm Christmas jumpers and hats.We used an off road trolley to transport most of our equipment in, as we were planning on walking around 3 miles to an isolated beach. However after about half a mile, maybe not even that, the front two wheels collapsed and all but snapped off the front axle. It can supposedly hold 70 kg worth, what we had in there was definitely a lot less than that, 40 kg at most. That will definitely be going back and getting refunded! We decided we couldn't drag it the rest of the way so we turned back and dragged it to a smaller beach nearby, albeit one next to a seawall footpath and a holiday park! I recently got an early Christmas present, a Go Pro Hero 9 camera and I did get some footage on it of this camp. It came out really well, however I accidentally damaged the SD memory card afterwards at home, so I fear I've lost that footage. Luckily I also filmed most of the camp on my phone, the picture quality isn't as good but it's better than nothing. That's what this video mainly consists of apart from a couple of shots Luke kindly gave to me. Luke's video of the camp was absolutely brilliant, with a very funny and clever festive plot, so I recommend you watch that if you haven't done so already, there's a link below. WILD CAMP IN THE WOODS | TARP AND BIVVY | LUKE COMPLETES THE NORTH DOWNS WAY! TOM OUTDOORS 2022-10-26 | Welcome back to Surrey and the North Downs Way for an extra special video! I joined my good friend Luke from The Real Travelling Amigos channel for a woodland wild camp on his FINAL section of the North Downs Way! We met on the trail a few years ago when he joined me on part 5 of the route, he then decided to stick with me for the rest of the sections and then wanted to go back to the actual trail start at Farnham in Surrey and do the first four sections in order to complete it himself. Which brings us to this video.I used my Alpkit Elan hooped bivvy for the third and final time, I am selling it to a friend, because it's too cramped for me to sleep in! The weather was supposed to be rain but none came so I had my OEX Bush Pro tarp set up as well in a plough point which I really liked, hoping to do more tarp set ups. HEDINGHAM CASTLE | EXPLORING THE FINEST NORMAN KEEP IN ENGLAND TOM OUTDOORS 2022-08-29 | Welcome back to the finest county in England (in my opinion), my home county of Essex! In this video I visit Hedingham Castle in the north of the county, which claims to be the finest and best preserved Norman Keep in existence! I was joined by my friend and new lady in my life, Dawn, for the first time on camera (make her feel welcome, you'll be seeing her again in future videos)! It was a roasting hot day during the recent UK heatwave of 2022. We explored the keep and the castle grounds, which are over half a mile across, so there was lots to see and explore. I join my mate Luke again from The Real Travelling Amigos, halfway through his Section 2 of the North Downs Way for a woodland wild camp, whilst doing a 6.5 mile circular walk myself, from the Surrey Year Round Walks guidebook.I was feeling really under the weather, in fact I got a lot worse in the weeks after filming this! At the time of posting this though I feel so much better! I was joined by my two mates and fellow YouTube channel creators Luke (The Real Travelling Amigos) and Steve (Scout Man Steve) AKA Scat Man! We did a 5.25 mile walk in the Wilmington and Jevington area, which included a nice pub halfway for a cheeky pint and bag of crisps and then a section of the South Downs Way along the top of Windover Hill and The Long Man Of Wilmington Hill Figure, which we wild camped above in windy conditions. The views that night and in the morning were truly breath taking! This was hands down one of the best wild camps I've been on in a while! I slept really well too for a change, no night terrors! Steve had his drone so we got some awesome footage from that too. I had a new headtorch and a new tent, the Vango Helix 100, which I'm really liking at the moment. EXPLORING A PREHISTORIC BURIAL CHAMBER | BELAS KNAP LONG BARROW | THE COTSWOLDS TOM OUTDOORS 2022-01-15 | Welcome back to Gloucestershire and The Cotswolds for my final video from my recent trip there for New Year!After a brilliant wild camp on Leckhampton Hill overlooking Cheltenham for New Year's Eve 2021, I drove to a nearby prehistoric site, Belas Knap Long Barrow. It was a good mile, nearly 2 mile walk up a hill and through some woodland via The Cotswold Way long distance path through thick mud to reach the long barrow, but of course it was well worth it! This is one of the three most significant long barrow sites in the country, so it was a must see for a history nerd like myself! The site is over 5,500 years old, older than the pyramids! It housed nearly 40 skeletons, some in upright seated positions, who died in the Neolithic (New Stone Age) period!Hope you enjoy the video as much as I did making it! I travelled to Gloucestershire to meet up with my friends James and Mary from Bad Hair Adventures for 2021's New Year's Eve wild camp. After a false start at our proposed location, we travelled 20 minutes round the corner to another prominent hillside overlooking Cheltenham and saw in the new year there. Lots of alcohol, not just cider this time and lots of laughs and fun. We saw lots of people celebrating new year om the hill along with loads of amazing fireworks displays, both on the hill and down below us across the town and beyond! WALKING IN KENT | RIVER MEDWAY AND GOLDEN GREEN | MACMILLAN CANCER: 100 MILES IN OCTOBER TOM OUTDOORS 2021-11-26 | Welcome back to the Garden of England, the second finest county in the land, KENT! This 10 mile day walk started in the little village of Golden Green near Tonbridge and followed a section of the Medway Valley Walk long distance route along, you guessed it, the River Medway. The mighty river of Kent. I visited the tiny ancient church of Tudeley, where the stained glass windows were very special and very different indeed. The route had, in my opinion, all the ingredients that make up a quintessential Kent day walk: River Medway, oast houses, views of the North Downs, hop poles, apple orchards, beautiful villages and historic churches. This walk was completed back in October 2021 as part of my 100 miles throughout October challenge to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. I completed the challenge and raised £195! WILD CAMPING ON FIREWORKS NIGHT | CASTLE HILL | HELM 1 TENT AND WINTER SET UP TOM OUTDOORS 2021-11-14 | Welcome back to Kent (my OTHER favourite county!) for the TOM OUTDOORS FIREWORKS NIGHT WILD CAMP 2021! This one was a bit special.I headed up to Castle Hill, locally known as Caesar's Camp (former site of Folkestone Castle), which overlooks the seaside town of Folkestone and the English Channel (you can see the French coastline on a clear day!).The natural hill was once the site of an Iron Age Hillfort before the Norman Invasion of 1066, who then built a motte and bailey castle on its summit. The ditches and ramparts are still clearly visible. It is the largest and most complete ringwork in the south east of England!The weather was cold and windy but no rain and there were plenty of firework displays all around. The sunset and sunrise from such a lofty position was incredible. This is Icklingham to Knettishall Heath (which is also the start of the Peddars Way and the Angles Way) which is 16.5 miles. I was joined by another subscriber named Ben, who has been instrumental in helping me to complete the Icknield Way. He has given me a couple of lifts and suggested a location for a camp in previous sections. We both used OEX Phoxx 1 V2 tents on this section.This was a fantastic section, the whole trail has been brilliant, apart from a couple of tedious moments in previous sections!
