👻 Spooky ghost halloween special 🎃Amazing Irish music performance from OAIM students Online Academy of Irish Music 2023-10-31 | As many of you know halloween originated in Ireland from the pagan ritual "Samhain", which marked the end of summer and beginning of winter. A night where the veil between after life and earthly plane is at its thinnest hence all the attention on ghosts, ghouls and skeletons. 👻 ☠️The belief being that leaving your doors open and candles lit helped guide old souls home to partake in "Hallowe'en Supper" where a place was set for them and food set aside. 🎃 | SCARY STUFFTo lighten the mood we've an uplifting set of jigs played brilliantly by OAIM members. The tunes are The Drumraney Lass & Patsy Geary's. The costumes and decoration are excellent, befitting this old Hallwe'en tradition. When played at a good pace, like here, they can be a challenge for new and even more experienced players. In her video Els is recreating the look of a famous painting called "The Milkmaid" by Vermeer. It was very clever of her as the first tune in our set is the waltz, The Pretty Maid Milking Her Cow. You'd think this tune would be followed by an equally slow air or waltz, but no! The audience is whipped into a near frenzy with the feisty Dinky's Reel. It just goes to show that you can pretty much put any tune together into a set if you know how!We were really chuffed to see the number of people switching instruments from one tune to the next. We spotted Patrick, Marge, Klaus and Michael, and probably many more! Well done one and all.We hope that this practice of putting tunes together helps encourage you and give you confidence in your playing.
