Thank you to everyone who helped out with this. If you want a link to any particular website featured in this video, please ask! This is just a reference guide, after all. I do hope I managed to set the record straight for some common historical misconceptions, and that I introduced you all to the vastness of the webcomic world.
I'm sure there are plenty of topics I haven't covered yet, and every five-second portion of this history could be an hour-long video in its own right. I could talk about ANSI art for hours :p
Comment about what I missed, what you want to hear more about, and tell me what you think!
In this video, I’ve attempted to give a complete overview of all the developments within the medium of webcomics. To do this, I’ve been looking at the chronology of webcomic theory, technological changes, births of genres, and major gatherings. What results is a ridiculously incomplete picture of the medium at large, with an odd emphasis of experimental works that just happen to do something first. Not covered in this video are the thousands of fantasy and sci-fi adventures that were the bread-and-butter of webcomic readers for decades. Not covered are the thousands of gag-a-days the internet has been chuckling at since 1993. Not mentioned are Jeph Jacques, Gisele Lagace, David Willis, and Dan Shive, writing the same stories for 20 years without being affected by a changing environment at all, other than writing more queer-positive stories as time goes on. I didn’t bring up any of the millions of webcomics made available on deviantArt or Smackjeeves (rip) or Comicfury. I couldn’t find a good rationale to bring up the individual webcomics I know from countries like Czechia, Poland, Egypt, and Lebanon. In fact, I hadn’t brought up the African continent at all until this point! There's just so much....

I confused elegy and eulogy while creating this video. Awkward ^_^;
And thank you all very much for watching!
This podcast features the great voices of Deadwombat, Rei, and myself.
You can also read walkingnorth's newest webcomic, Aerial Magic. It started a year ago, so there is already quite a few pages to get into - webtoons.com/en/drama/aerial-magic/list?title_no=1358
This podcast was recorded in May 2018. Because the inexcusable delays, any future Webcomcast episodes will be much less heavily edited. None are planned yet, but depending on their quality, they may be released on my secondary channel, Maplestrip Miscellaneous. I do want to do more podcasts, but... I dunno. We'll see.
I mentioned webcomics such as Steven and the Crystal GMs and Rain in this webcomic. They can be found here:

This podcast features the great voices of Deadwombat, Miss Donym, Cuddlefish, and myself.
The next webcomic we'll be talking about is Always Human, by walkingnorth. It only has 87 pages, and though the pages are a fair bit longer than those of Material Girl, they are all just as good! - webtoons.com/en/romance/always-human/list?title_no=557&page=9
You can also read walkingnorth's newest webcomic, Aerial Magic. It has just started, but it's just as stunning as her first work thus far - webtoons.com/en/heartwarming/aerial-magic/list?title_no=1358

This podcast was recorded in December, 2017. I greatly apologize to everyone for the long delay and awful auditory quality of this podcast. I promise I will not make the same mistakes.
I may upload "Episode 0" at some point as well. It sounds _really_ bad....
I mentioned the webcomic Rain in this podcast, which you can read on various websites - http://rainlgbt.smackjeeves.com/comics
(Interestingly, I chatted with Rain's creator Jocelyn yesterday and she told me that Material Girl was actually a major inspiration to create Rain!)
--Original description:
Summer is over, and though I have only released a fairly limited number of videos, I am still happy with my productivity in the past two months.
From now on, my channel will sport two major ongoing series, alternating with just random videos about webcomics or other stuff. These series are:
Tch! - short-form commentary on anime, just to spout out some ideas; and
Deformat - a series in which I will review and analyze webcomic adaptations into different media.
Yesterday, I joined the 100 sub Q&A of Rei the Offbeat Otaku while it was halfway in. My audio quality wasn't very good, but if you want to see everything I'm in, I suppose you should check it out: youtube.com/watch?v=gfynEGTz90Q
I believe that is everything for now. I don't know when my next video will come out, but it may take a month. I hope to be able to get back to you all soon. I hope you have been sufficiently hyped up until then~
The logo on the title card is designed by Noticenverz, who I thank profusely for creating this. I really suck at visual design myself ^_^;
The song used is "Rhapsody in Blue" by George Gershwin.

"Tch!" is my new series in which I make quick comments about anime. I managed to produce this whole video in just one evening and I hope I can do more like this. Of course, the main purpose of my channel is to discuss webcomics, but getting these out is fun as well.
"Tch!" is primarily a reference to Mahou Shoujo Ikusei Keikaku.
I Can't Understand What My Husband Is Saying can be legally streamed on Crunchyroll.
The music used in this video is composed by Walkingnorth for her amazing webcomic Always Human. I really want to review this amazing webtoon at some point.

This is my first analytical video, as you can see from its low production values. It's really mostly a test run for future videos, seeing what works and what doesn't. There are tons of cringeworthy aspects to this video, all of which I hope to iron out next time.
Thank you for watching ^_^
It currently takes 1 A-press to get out of this room... but realistically, we just reset the console after collecting this star. Seeing as the sewers themselves take 1 A-press to enter right now, this should be the last star we collect in this area. The complexities of a full run just keep rising...
This is mostly to illustrate the technique to break through the floors without pressing A. Samuel Vitale is likely to upload a video at some point in which he combines this star with the 100 coin star (which would save an A-press in total, as far as we know right now)
Two A-presses are needed to shoot out of the cannon. The other two... are at 2:59... Have fun saving those!
A possible better route is to first get the red coin in the water, and then get the other seven red coins. Then, you might be able to save the A-press for the second cannon shot, everything going perfectly.
Either way, this star is useless for any%.
Interestingly, Sidney mentioned that you should be able to get into this level 0x (though just barely, using a misalignment on the warp pipe). If that's true, then this star should make any% a lot easier :3
Was fun, though. Happy to have this one at 0x. If I'm not mistaken, we only have one more star in this level to go, which is already 1x... This is gonna be fun :3
I honestly wonder if this was initially supposed to be the solution for this star. I mean, this is an actual hop, after all!
Being able to get up onto the windmill without any additional A-presses means another star in this level also becomes a lot easier... I'll upload the second video in a bit ^_^
Seeing as how boring these stars are, I figured I'd do them all in one go. All four are easily 0x, and all you really have to worry about is lack of oxygen. I've cut out a few repetitive scenes, to make it slightly less boring, but I didn't want to speed it all up again. Feel free to speed it up yourself, though: it's not like you'll miss any sudden movements.
0:00 - The "X" Marks the Spot
1:35 - Deep Dive Through the Coral
5:45 - Red Coins of the Deep
9:51 - Precision Swimming
There are still two stars left to do, but both deserve their own video. There's also the 100 coin star, which is probably possible in 0x A-presses, but... *shivers*
Also, I messed up my editing at the start. Oh well. This took half an hour to render: I'm not redoing it.
This video is TAS, and the tricks shown in the first half of the video are all Sidney600's work: youtube.com/watch?v=r-11uhWU4Dk
I primarily did this video in order to show off that you can reach the mainland in 0x A-presses.
Actually getting up on the tower is a whole different question entirely, and though I'm sure some clever sole can save an A-press here as well, I have no idea how.
Watch the Goomba dance on the music at 0:12 ^_^
Edit: Sidney managed to save half an A-press!
Damn, making this was a pain. Jumping on a bat is hard, but getting up on that ledge right after that is nearly IMPOSSIBLE! I respect Samuel a lot for pulling it off, and I am really happy I eventually managed it myself.
There are 23 dives in this video, but only 22 dive recovers!
The painful thing is: as I was editing this video, I already realized a new possible save... I hate my life. I might do a short video on it if I can pull it off...
Not a hard mission to do for the most part. The two pillars are (or rather: will be) the difficult part. I haven't managed to get onto one by using the pyramid yet, but who knows. Perhaps the sprite Pokey can also be used in some way...
The music track, titled "Take it Easy", came from http://www.jewelbeat.com - I still haven't put effort into finding nice free music to use. Oh well.
So, uhm, I hope you enjoyed. And I hope we can save the other A-press too! This level itself is incredibly useful for saving A-presses in an any% run, so it would be nice if we were able to enter it A-press-less.
Wew, figuring out where and how to phase through a wall was pretty hard, and at the end, I pretty much figured it out by accident. I think a lot of optimization can still be done and that at least two more A-presses can be saved, but I'm simply not such a good Mario player ^_^;
So, the remaining A-presses:
-I have to get up to the platform where the Chuckya is. Needless to say, I've tried a lot with this already, but even just getting here without pressing A seems impossible. I believe it is possible, but I do not yet know how...
-I tried to move in such a way that I would land on the platform of 0:31 rather than the moving platform, but it doesn't seem possible.
-These moving platforms are a pain. I'm sure that the A-press at 0:35 can be saved, but... urgh.....
-The final two A-presses will be hard to save, as you have to gain the necessary height somehow. I'm personally quite happy with how I did it.
Getting pushed through the wall in this manner is pretty hard and I haven't been able to find a way to reliably do it. This time it was slow, sometimes it's instantaneous. Either way, it works, and it makes this the first star in this level to get 0x!
I'm not planning on recording it again just yet. Might do so when we find another save. Still, though: making this star 2x feels good :3
Collosal Candy Clutter is one of my favorite levels in the game, but saving A-presses in here is a PAIN! Right at the start, I have no idea how to get to the next platform without pressing A. I'm sure some really awesome speedrunners can do it, but I sure as hell can't...
I'm glad I managed to get to the main island without pressing A. The A-press at 0:20 is probably impossible to save, but I'm personally just happy I didn't have to press A twice there. That little ascend there is awful to pull off ^_^;
Then comes the pipe. Which... I SAVED! Yes, this video is now already outdated, though I don't think I want to redo any of it :(
So there you go: Tuxie Slide in 4x A-presses.
I drew out this route a while ago, but was hoping to figure out how to save one or two A-presses...
Remaining A-presses:
0:25 to get onto the second piano key. It would be really neat if we could save some A-presses in this area in general, but it's really hard...
0:58 to stop sliding and get onto the platform. I doubt we'll ever save anything here, but who knows. I might play around going to this from the other way...
1:50 to get out of the guitar. The only thing I can think of to save this A-press is with cloning, but cloning with Chuckya is downright impossible, so I doubt this will work out.
But sadly, making this star 0x will be... improbable. You can't DR to get the star. It's really sad...
Breaking news: Sidney600 has since collected this star in 0x A-presses!
Oh yeah, this was TAS. That at least allowed me to play around a bit. I like bouncing my ass on lava.
Not the hardest star in the game ^_^; Now, if we could figure out how to do this one 0x without the ride, that would be awesome for any% runs.
We finally did it! We defeated the mighty Handroid! This is honestly one of my favorite stars in the game, partly because thinking of strats to make it 0x is so enjoyable. Climbing through the machinery at around 0:30 is particularly difficult. I'm fairly sure the one A-press there can be saved, but grabbing on there anywhere is really hard!
The two A-presses in the next room are going to be harder to save, but who knows. The Handroid fight itself is pretty standard fare. Everything just works out nicely here.
The start was a bit messier than I hoped, but to make it all better, there are no more ugly watermarks! From Vegas, anyway. I can live with the Bandcamp watermark.
Oh yeah, and we decided to abbreviate this level as "SlR", so that we won't get confused with Star Road :p
The song is "Magical Man" by Mike LoCascio and is licensed CC-SA-3.0. I was really just browsing Commons. commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Magical_Man_-_1968.ogg
So, let's go through this step-by-step:
The first two red coins are a joy to grab, but I sadly do not yet have the skill to get up there without pressing A. Luckily, a nicely placed tree makes it only one A-press to get up here. Let's see if we can save this one at some point :)
I need two Goomba clones to be able to get to the other part of the level if I want to save the Crazy Box for later. Cloning in CH is a pain because it seems like some weird bubble is spawning every frame, messing up any well-thought out cloning method. You can watch me improve my cloning skill over time, but it's not particularly nice. Search "The Science of Cloning" for a rundown on how cloning works in _Super Mario 64_.
Now I'm on the other part of the level, collecting the red coin at the pole is easy. Sadly, I need an A-press to get behind the building here and collect the highest positioned red coin. This A-press is the most important to save, as we need to use it three times in a 100% run...
Now, it is possible to get the red coin on the pillar at 3:45 without killing the Shy Guy by doing a particularly good dive recover, but I took the easy way out.
I sped through most of the swimming. This part is boring and simple, and I doubt anyone would care to see it all in real time. The red coin on the dock is last, then we use the Crazy Box to get back on the bay.
I accidentally saved over my gameplay without recording, which is why there is this weird jumpcut. Don't worry, I didn't press A in the mean time. I hope you can forgive me for my clumsiness...
Here, there was another issue: The star is positioned too high to collect with a simple dive recover. I was forced to clone two more Goomba to be able to nab it. Quite annoying.
Oh yeah, important note: for some reason, i only sped up footage, and not audio, which causes some odd audio glitches. I'll get better over time :p
Getting the hang of making quick videos :) I wouldn't be surprised if "Crazy Note Climb" in "Mad Musical Mess" could be done without pressing A by DR-ing on the bee or something, but that would definitely not be something I am able to. In particular because I absolutely hate those bees...
Nice speed, anyway, if I do say so myself.
Finally finishing off the regular stars in "Melting Snow Peaks", one of my favorite levels in the game. Positioning the Shy Guy was a pain. I'm sure this last A-press can be saved somehow by framewalking up the mountain and doing something with the Shy Guy on the top, but come on, I'm not that good ^_^
Oh yeah, and I finally managed to pull off a dive recover over the first abyss. It's weird how much trouble I have with that.
This one was a PAIN! Half of the video is dedicated to swimming. It's only very narrowly possible to with my current knowledge of the level and game. I know I could get 104 coins if I really tried, though luckily, I don't have to.
There's a reason why I usually don't do 100 coin stars....
