Throughout their partnership, both Kawhi and the Spurs experienced a ton of success and proved San Antonio wasn’t going anywhere. For six years, the introverted superstar and the Spurs seemed inseparable until a mysterious quadriceps injury limited Kawhi’s play, ultimately stripping the true essence of what held their relationship together — hooping. With Kawhi unable to perform, the usual story of greatness that surrounded the league’s model franchise turned into a bizarre saga where a once strong connection collapsed, and in its place: beef that shifted the entire landscape of the NBA.

A reclusive team-first superstar, who rarely showed emotions and only cared about hooping. San Antonio is a model franchise that’s often been called bland, boring, or as I like to say — sauceless but whatever you wanna call them, their success on the court has spoken volumes.
On paper, Kawhi and the Spurs were a match made in heaven who appeared to be locked in with each other until the end of time. Except, the relationship that seemed to be unbreakable from the outside ultimately deteriorated behind the scenes, resulting in a messy divorce. But to truly appreciate the tenderness of this beef you have to understand that it’s arguably the most improbable feud that occurred in NBA history.

Although Manning had a storybook ending solidifying his legacy as one of the greatest quarterbacks in the history of the NFL, the ending helped overshadow portions of a career where that legacy wasn’t crystal clear. Moments like Peyton being described as lacking the killer instinct to be a great champion. Or being regarded as the guy with ridiculous stats and flashy moves at the line of scrimmage who would never win a ring. It’s the reality of the legacy that Peyton had built throughout his career and one that could have drastically shaped how he’s remembered in history had things gone slightly different.

In our new series ‘Prism’ we aim to tackle the public perception of iconic athletes and sports personalities, in an effort to better understand the person, where that perception came from, and what other aspects of their history it overlooks. In the case of Greg Oden, he’s consistently labeled as one of the biggest busts in the history of the NBA. Athletes typically fit this description when they fail to meet a certain level of expectations but Oden’s case is unique. To fully understand why Oden is perceived this way, we have to remember his extreme potential, how the NBA operated before he was drafted, and distinguish why not all busts are the same.

Resentment had been building for some time. Sloan and D-Will butted heads for four-and-a-half seasons, things were bound to blow up sooner or later. Why couldn’t the hard nosed coach and willful point guard get along? Did you see the adjectives I used to describe ‘em? That’s why.
And now... *removes lid from serving tray* your beef is served.

Three Cups in five years, led by two young superstars and a dynamic core of supporting players. Chicago had already completed one dynasty, and there was no reason this group couldn’t keep going at a Championship level. But, even superstars can’t do it alone.

On February 27th, 2019, what appeared to be a basic regular-season game for Miami against the Golden State Warriors ended in a spectacular fashion. Down by two points with very little time remaining, D-Wade had the opportunity to be the savior for the Heat like he’s done several times before. Before we watch Wade’s last-second shot attempt, we need to understand what makes it so magical.
It’s worth taking a moment to reflect on what Wade means to the Heat organization. When he was drafted in 2003, Wade was the spark to building a losing franchise into a true contender. He essentially helped build the franchise. Throughout his career in Miami, Wade made several All-NBA selections, won three championships, and earned a Finals MVP but his relationship with Miami wasn’t always smooth. Through several ups and downs, Wade at a time wasn’t a member of the Heat. But at this moment, he’s back in Miami to finish his career off where he started. To appreciate what D-Wade gave us in a magnificent finish, it’s worth remembering his legendary career with Miami, his ability to close out games in striking style, why his time in Miami ended, and how he found his way back to the Heat.
Let’s rewind.

Well, what if you know you’re headed for a suspension and want to serve it as soon as possible? If that sounds weird, well, blame the German football calendar. Uncover the details behind this bizarre approach in our newest episode of Weird Rules.

But that outcome only makes the era preceding it more compelling. The prior very-good Bucks team took the league by storm in 2001. They almost made it to the Finals ... and then fell very hard very fast. The demolition of that "Big Three," and the years of losing (but not rebuilding) that followed are worth exploring.

It didn't happen that way, and the more Sergio fell short, the more irritated ... and irritating ... he got. This beef included a lot of whining, some fun final rounds of golf, and one very spicy Tweety Bird reference, but then Garcia took it way too far.
