Probably my favorite of the new inclusions though are these gigantic explosive red barrels that have an absolutely massive explosion radius. They show up a lot in the opening swamp levels and are always placed in the most advantageous spots to kill a bunch of monsters.
I did end up dying in one of the levels though, but I still consider it a win since I kind of had to in order to show off some of the hidden goodies that Pickurt put in the level (here's hoping in the future that if he does update the mod he considers putting in teleporters so you don't have to take damage to get back on the main path; either that or just make it so the fall itself doesn't damage you before it teleports you).
Regardless, these are some really fun levels that feature lots of good combat and neat things to find.

Serious Sam 2: Resomething Encounter by Pickurt - steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3118557908DOOM 3 - Casual Playthrough with Commentary (Veteran Difficulty 3/5)steak jacobs2024-10-16 | Behold, the sewer section of DOOM 3! There's lots of Revenants, Imps, and the Mancubus also makes a return, but there is also the horrible new "Cherub" enemy that leaps insane distances and does way too much damage.
Plasma & Chaingun useage is a bit more prominent now, especially the Plasma since it's good at shutting down Revenant missiles. You'll also get the Rocket Launcher which is great for quickly getting rid of annoying enemies at range and for taking down the Mancubus with a few well placed headshots.
Oh, and of course we can't forget about the grand reveal of Dr. Malcolm Betruger as the main antagonist, who has the most evil villain sounding evil villain voice of all time! Even though you hardly ever see him, he makes damn sure you know of his presence by constantly laughing and mocking you the entire time, and his incredible voice acting is legit one of my favorite things about this game.
Even though he's the bad guy, I just can't bring myself to hate him; I mean, the man is just so happy about being evil that there's something almost admirable about it, lol.

Honestly I've been meaning to start this one for over 2 months now but there's just been so many new mods coming out and I didn't really know how to juggle this on top of those & Redux combined, but I think now is the right time to get this show on the road! At face value this is just another rebalance mod for SS2's campaign, but it is oh so much more than that and is legit the most fun I've had with SS2 in a long time.
Key Rebalancing Features: - Enemies no longer have inflated/deflated health depending on what difficulty you select - Almost every enemies' attacks have been reworked (damage, projectile speed, etc.), and most enemies feature one or more new alternate attacks like in Fusion BFE to spice up combat - Weapons have been altered to feel more unique and the Beam Gun re-introduced by Croteam in the most recent update has undergone significant changes to feel more situationally useful
New Goodies: - Almost every invisible wall has been removed from maps (can cause soft-locking if you're not careful) - New weapons, vehicles, optional combat encounters, easter eggs, and much more (usually found by exploring out of bounds sections of maps normally locked by invisible walls)
The list goes on, but I think you get the point. What I will say is that all of these changes combined make this arguably the most fun and interesting Serious Sam experience I've had in a long time. Sure the mod can be jank at times, sure you can get yourself soft-locked, sure some of the weapons and enemies are OP, but I think a lot of that is what makes the overall experience so damn enjoyable. I think it's in a similar vein to Brutal Mods for games like DOOM or Half Life, where it just adds a bunch of new stuff to the game and says "have fun".
Since Sam 2's levels are fairly short and there's so much I want to show off to you guys, I've decided to make it so each video will cover one of the planets in SS2, with the first obviously being M'Digbo. I'm not sure yet if I'm going to push myself to have this be a deathless playthrough or not since dying would mean having to restart from the beginning of a planet, which is pretty time consuming, but one thing I am for sure doing is a clean start between each planet since "ammo carry over" is whack in this game.
Thanks again for watching and as always, stay Serious!
I'm honestly not sure how much has been changed in this level compared to Singleplayer, but at the same time the fights are so damn good that I really don't care. I know a lot of people generally don't like this level, but to me it's easily the 2nd best finale to any Sam game, rivaled only by SS2 & TSE that are tied for 1st place.
One very notable change in COOP though is one of the secrets that you can get in the large open arena about midway through the level that adds jump pads. Something about their inclusion makes the fight feel much more dynamic and memorable.
Sadly the boss is still pretty lame as all you need to do is stick rods in his back and wait for the lightning to kill him or bring him low enough to finish off, but the level itself more than makes up for it imo.
I had a lot of fun playing through Redux again and I feel confident in calling it the definitive BFE experience. It's the perfect example of how focusing on the finer details can drastically improve the overall experience, and while most people will overlook these things, the people who do notice them will be super happy.
My favorite aspect of Redux by far though is the COOP exclusive stuff which effectively gives you 2 rework mods for the price of 1. You want to experience the original BFE but wish it had better pacing, play singleplayer; you want a more challenging/goofy experience, play in COOP.
Huge thanks to SeriousAmaro again for letting me playtest this project and for all the hard work he put into it!

Jokes aside this part of the game is really fun because while you have access to some powerful tools like the Plasma & Chaingun, the combat is still paced in such a way to allow for tools like the Shotgun, Grenade, and Machinegun to get a fair amount of use.

Time sure does fly fast these days, feels even faster when it happens to be a good thing, but it's not over yet! Yep, it's the part of the game where all your weapons get taken away and you've got to go collect them all again.
Thankfully you get almost the full arsenal by the end of this level, and it's even faster in COOP since there are early power weapon spawns. Again, there isn't much to talk about other than this level is super fun and I'm honestly really digging the COOP reimaginings of these levels.

This game is such a gem, and is perfect for the month of October even though that community poll thing I did was like 3 months ago or something, lol.
For a game with such amazing lighting and such an oppressive atmosphere, it sure does give me the giggles. Idk if it's because of the funny ragdolls, the fact you can kill basically all friendly NPCs without suffering any repercussions, my selective remembering/forgetting of certain scripted sequences, or what, but damn I haven't laughed this hard when recording in a long time!
It also helps that the weapons are really good. The Shotgun is a certified hood classic, Grenades feel incredibly fun to land directs with and cause peak ragdolling, Plasma balls are chunky and will knock away/destroy incoming enemy projectiles, etc.
At any rate, I hope y'all will enjoy this playthrough at least half as much as I did recording it!

I say this jokingly of course, definitely not trying to discount the time, effort, and skill these modders have put into their projects.
There's no telling what will come out next or when, but in the meantime how about some Redux? I'd argue this is one of, if not the most memorable level in the vanilla BFE campaign, and it's all because of THAT section. Oh yes, it's Minigun time boys!
The level leading up to the Minigun is also pretty good but good God Croteam struck gold with the Minigun fight and it's definitely been amplified in COOP so have fun with that... I know I did! I also found the sections following the Minigun fight to be pretty enjoyable too (probably because there's more Minigun ammo... how many times have I said Minigun?).

First map is basically just finding items and having a fight while the second map is I guess a stealth section, which might be fine if enemies didn't see you through solid objects and instantly kill you.
I gave up on the second map because I somehow soft locked it and didn't feel like reloading from the level start. If there's a lot of requests to play through the second map again I will, but for now I think I've done my due diligence by at least showing it off, and at least it got some good laughs out of me.
Even though I didn't beat it, I would recommend checking it out for yourself if you're interested in having a unique experience in Sam that isn't just shooting stuff.

Almost hard to believe this was made by the same guy who made that super troll map for Fusion. It's much easier in comparison but still has moments where it tries to drop enemies on top of you. Secrets are also much easier to find, and most of the time I didn't even think they were secret items.
The final fight is... disappointing. It honestly feels like a reverse troll, like an insult to the player but in a funny way. You get the Minigun and Death Ray then fight like 3 waves of enemies and 2 Khnums and that's it.
On one hand I really like this map, on the other I think the visuals are hit & miss and the combat is in the same boat.

All fights are large and feature lots of deadly enemy combos that need to be dealt with quickly to avoid getting overwhelmed. The Laser thankfully helps out with keeping rushing enemies like Kleers & Gnaars at bay, and is great for stunlocking small Scorps.
Only major complaint I have about the combat is the annoying Kamikaze spam at the Sphinx Arena, not because they're hard to deal with, but because their spawner lasts way longer than the actual fight they're meant to accompany (you'll see).

Chapter 2 is even better than the previous one imo. There's more ammo, the environments are still massive but it feels a bit more concise, and of course you have better weapons to kill bigger enemies earlier on.
Also should go without saying, but the map is beautiful and features even more visual variety than the first chapter. It's great to look at, fun to play, and offers up more of the exploration focused gameplay you don't normally expect from a Sam map.

My memory of it is a bit fuzzy, but regardless I had a fun time going through it again and remembering stuff along the way.
One negative thing I do want to address first before getting into the map is that it does replace some game files, especially noticeable with the Pistol which feels like absolute dog water to use. The rest of the guns thankfully feel like they're supposed to, but there are quite a lot of oddities going on with general pickups such as health, armor, and ammo.
With that being said though, I thoroughly enjoyed my time with this map. It's an odd yet satisfying mix of vehicle & ground combat with a heavy focus on exploration and puzzle solving. What this means in terms of gameplay is you'll end up spending more time just looking around and letting your curiosity drive you as opposed to fighting wave after wave of enemies.
If you're looking for a map that just lets you kill shit, then this definitely isn't for you. But if you're looking for a more relaxing experience that lets you take things at your own pace and explore as much as you want, then you've come to the right place.

Sadly there aren't many maps for the SM workshop but thankfully this one is really good. Only complaints I have are that the main outdoor area is pretty time consuming if you're trying to trigger all of the fights and the map makes use of a custom Biomech variant that can insta-kill you... which is about as fun to fight as it sounds.
Thankfully there's only one of those Biomechs you have to fight on foot and the rest of the map is fantastic. Highly recommend specing into melee and enemy riding skills first as it can lead to some pretty humorous results.

As a refresher, Serious Plus is something I made up which basically means extra COOP monsters as well as clean starting the maps.
I know that I played this already, but the latest update which includes the DLC levels drastically changed the way BFE Redux plays when in COOP. There's tougher monsters earlier on, 2 dedicated COOP secrets on each map, new weapon spawns, and new waves have been added to some of the larger fights.
The first level isn't too bad but there's something seriously wrong with the Werebull pathfinding in the final fight that makes them glued to the player, so they're top priority. Janky horrible Werebull pathfinding aside, it's a decent first level and will get you acquainted with what you can expect in the later maps.

This one features very cool aesthetics, music, custom enemies, and a ton of whacky secret custom weapons to use. I really want to talk about the custom weapons as I think they're the highlight of the map, but doing so would be spoiling quite a bit, so my recommendation is to just play this map and have a good time.
I will be covering some other mods Pickurt has made in the not so distant future so keep an eye out, and as always, stay Serious!
Thanks again for watching and as always, stay Serious!
Just like the original, the first half of this map is just one gigantic Sniper & Devastator shooting gallery. That's not entirely true as you start on foot and get a Minigun right off the bat, which definitely helps set the tone for how the rest of the map is going to go.
Brutal fight after brutal fight, a true endurance round, the way it's been since TFE and I love every second of it. Also this might be the single most amount of Devastator ammo to ever exist in any of Serious Amaro's Redux maps, lol.
Boss still kinda sucks, but what you going to do? Anyway it's been awesome getting to play through JOTN Redux with all the added COOP monsters and secrets. A huge thanks of course to Serious Amaro for letting me playtest this thing early and for managing to make the Redux experience even better than it already was.

Serious Sam BFE: Redux by SeriousAmaro - steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3112123059F.E.A.R. - First Encounter Assault Recon (Extreme Difficulty with Commentary 3/3)steak jacobs2024-08-19 | Thematically this is my favorite chapter of the game, especially the first couple of levels that take place inside run down apartments. You'll also start to find bigger guns much more frequently, including the behemoth that is the Autocannon, absolute unit of a gun that'd make Sam himself proud to weild.
What makes this final part of the game interesting is that it probably has the most amount of visual variety in the entire game. You start in run down apartments, find yourself walking along abandoned city streets, go through some dried up canals, and wind up in a high tech lab which even has decent lighting!
The only thing I don't care for about this section is the artificial difficulty. I mentioned it a few times, but basically the further into the game you go, enemies become more tanky and have insanely high damage output. They don't get better AI or anything, they just melt you quicker and shrug off attacks more easily. Heck, even the dumb Armacham security guards get these buffs, like wtf.
Another thing that really doesn't help is the level design of the Origin Facility; they're really long corridors where enemies always have the advantage and you're more or less forced to use ranged weapons and pop medkits in order to push through. That's not to say the levels don't have their moments, but I think everything sort of goes downhill after the epic apartment building shootout.
Still, even with its faults, I consider this to be one of the best linear FPS experiences to ever grace the genera.

That whole thing about 2 new secrets per level doesn't apply here; I don't know the exact number but I think there's upwards of 9 brand new secrets to find, including some new optional areas to explore and fight in.
The opening is sort of as you'd expect but with more scorps to use the Laser on and more Harpies & Reptiloids to snipe. Once you get to the Military Base though things get Serious.

Serious Sam BFE: Redux by SeriousAmaro - steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3112123059F.E.A.R. - First Encounter Assault Recon (Extreme Difficulty with Commentary 2/3)steak jacobs2024-08-14 | In this part I decided to focus on what I consider "The Armacham" chapter of F.E.A.R.
I think this and the opening water treatment levels are what most people think of when they think of this game, and that's because it lasts for a pretty good chunk of the experience and almost exclusively takes place inside of Armacham facilities. What makes it stand out is it's thematically very different from the first part of the game; instead industrial areas it focuses more on office complexes, laboratories, elevator shafts, parking garages, etc.
Another big thing is that you'll definitely hear more banter from your surviving teammates as well as have more encounters with friendly NPCs. Even though it's largely there as an exposition dump, the moments are short enough to not be annoying and there's still plenty of time to soak in the rich atmosphere on your own.
Of course something else that sticks out is more Serious Firepower! You'll start to find things like Rocket Launchers, Particle Rifles, Burst Rifles, Remote Bombs, and Landmines appear more frequently... or at the very least tucked away in a hidden area. All the new guns, enemies, insight into the world you're in, and change of scenery all help to make this particular part of the game stand out from the opening levels imo.
Thanks again for watching and as always, stay Serious!Serious Sam 3: Jewel Of The Nile Redux - 01 Gathering Of The Gods (Serious Plus 100%)steak jacobs2024-08-12 | Kept you waiting, huh? Yeah, so the Serious Sam BFE: Redux mod by Serious Amaro was updated quite a while ago to include Jewel Of The Nile Redux, as well as a complete overhaul of BFE's campaign in COOP (don't worry, I'll be covering that in the not so distant future).
So what's the mod do? It reworks combat encounters & secrets, adds 2 new secrets per level plus 2 additional COOP exclusive secrets, and makes minor alterations to levels as needed. The goal is to keep the campaigns feeling like the original experiences but with better pacing.
...Okay, and what's Serious Plus? It's just a title I came up with for playing maps in singleplayer on Serious Difficulty with COOP monsters enabled, and in this case, secrets.
Well how's the map, Steak? First map is pretty dang good! Lots of enemies to kill, though the fights are a lot more concise and generally don't stray too far from where you pick up statues and keys, which is something I found extremely tedious in OG JOTN. The amount of times you have to go out of your way to kill enemies once triggering a fight has been greatly reduced and the new secrets add a lot to the experience.
Not much else to say, it's still fairly short and the new pacing ensures the map doesn't overstay its welcome. Good way to start off the campaign!
Thanks again for watching and as always, stay Serious!
I think this might be the single greatest FPS experience I've had in a long time. It's everything I wanted from a game that takes inspiration from F.E.A.R.; there's over the top particle effects, smart enemy AI, incredible world building, tons of environmental detail & interaction, A LOT of unexpected twists, and the atmosphere... my God the atmosphere!
This game has such a lonely, unsettling, and tense atmosphere that always kept me on high alert throughout regardless of if I was in combat or goofing around looking for secrets. Speaking of which, the secrets are incredible; they all feel varied & unique, and aside from the occasional cracked wall that needs blowing up a vast majority of them require players to think and/or experiment with the game's mechanics to get to them.
Also that finale... I thought the game leading up to it was tense, but that entire last area with the eerie droning, mechanical growling and stomping, dust falling everywhere and an abundance of the game's tougher opponents, that was really fucking intense. Of course I mean that in the best possible way, but I am a bit sad that for all that incredible buildup the payoff was a cliffhanger and not a proper boss fight. Still I can't really fault it for being an indie game that feels 1000 times more polished than any of the modern AAA slop coming out these days.
I do really want to make a 100% playthrough for this game, but sadly as you can tell OBS absolutely hates recording this game and I still haven't found a solution. I've tried adjusting in game settings, OBS settings, forcing the game to run in OpenGL instead of Vulkan, but nothing seems to work... So sadly, unless you guys REALLY want me to do a 100% playthrough and are willing to put up with the crappy footage, then I'm afraid this will be the last Selaco video I will publish to this channel. I will more than likely do blind playthroughs at least when Chapter's 2 & 3 come out, but nothing beyond that until I can find some way to record without problems.
Either way, this game is insanely good. I know people are against getting early access games that are still in development but I will happily shill for this one. With just "the 1st" chapter alone you're getting 12 plus hours of gameplay, not including the time you'll want to spend admiring your surroundings, interacting with the world, exploring, secret hunting, replaying the game with different modifiers, trying out modded content, and so much more.
Thanks again for watching, thank you devs for making this masterpiece, and as always, stay Serious!F.E.A.R. - First Encounter Assault Recon (Extreme Difficulty with Commentary 1/3)steak jacobs2024-08-07 | Playing Selaco has largely inspired me to go back and revisit one of my all time favorite shooters, F.E.A.R.
What makes this game so engaging for me is the unsettling atmosphere coupled with the stellar gunplay and intelligent enemy AI. All of this is enhanced by over the top particle effects, incredible sound design, and some of the best lighting to grace any game.
Yeah, after replaying the game multiple times the jump scares and small scripted sequences wear off, but it's still a suitably unsettling game that will keep you engaged and on edge of your seat throughout.

Selaco on Steam: store.steampowered.com/app/1592280/SelacoSerious Sam Fusion: Legendary Ancient Valley (Seriously Blind 100%)steak jacobs2024-07-29 | This map was created by XAndUkarE for Serious Sam 3: BFE, and ported to Serious Sam Fusion by Yurka262.
Ah, this takes me back. Before Fusion, I played a ton of custom maps from SS3's workshop and remember playing maps just like this.
I can't critique the map too much since it's definitely a product of its time, when the norm was to fill maps to the brim with hitscanners and either lean really hard into the realistic military theme or go bananas with the color pallet to try and make it feel more "classic".
For what it is though, the map is pretty fun, but can occasionally sideswipe you with some classic Sam shenanigans.

Happy Thursday!Serious Sam: Fusion - Mitosis by timilyo80steak jacobs2024-07-24 | I actually really like this map but don't have the skills to beat it on either Hard or Serious Difficulty. Maybe one day I'll manage to beat it but it's for sure doable.

Moral of the story, heal up!

Selaco on Steam: store.steampowered.com/app/1592280/SelacoSerious Sam: Siberian Mayhem - Events in the desert by 4eByPeK (Seriously Blind)steak jacobs2024-07-19 | A new Egypt themed map for SM; hell, I'll take it!
It's been fun covering other games, but I'm always excited to cover new Sam content, and thankfully this map doesn't disappoint. It runs pretty well, has a neat mix of BFE & SM survival map assets, and fights are overall pretty fun.
I think the beginning part of the map drags for a bit since every item spawns new enemies, and one of the arena fights has a soft-lock that can only be bypassed using cheats, but other than that I had a good time with this one.

Events in the desert by 4eByPeK - steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3281911265Selaco: Blind Playthrough with Commentary (Captain Difficulty 7/12)steak jacobs2024-07-17 | Some more Selaco gameplay. Btw I realized that what was causing all the annoying screen tearing was actually the screen shake and vibration effects in the game. It's odd because when playing the game I didn't see these issues but it was only captured in the recording, so I guess OBS doesn't agree... Bit of a bummer.
Idk if anyone else who records footage for this game who uses OBS encounters these issues, but if you do then I highly recommend turning off these effects where possible. If playing the game solo though and not recording then I would highly recommend the screen effects as I find this to be one of the few games where it actually adds to the immersion.

Selaco on Steam: store.steampowered.com/app/1592280/SelacoSerious Sam Fusion: The Raggetor by HChrel (Serious 100% with Commentary)steak jacobs2024-07-15 | Seeing as Sam content atm is still dry as a bone, I decided to revisit this map to give it the proper "all secret" treatment. I feel pretty dumb for missing that rocket launcher in the beginning during my blind playthrough since it's pretty obvious there would be one, but I'm happy to have rectified it here and at least it gave me a reason to revisit this neat little map.
If you haven't already then definitely check out this map for yourself. It's fairly short and full of Sam goodness.

Selaco on Steam: store.steampowered.com/app/1592280/SelacoProdeus: Nameless Abyss by Konvaz (UH 100%)steak jacobs2024-07-10 | Been a while since I've played Prodeus, so I decided to check out some of the recent community map releases.
If the gameplay looks different, it's because I'm playing with 2 mods which also happen to be made by Konvaz; one allows for weapons to be reloaded in the background if not in use for more than 5 seconds, and the other removes the movement speed restriction when using the Chaingun, and both of these are things that I strongly feel should have made it into the base game as it greatly helps the flow of combat.
Huge thanks to Konvaz for the awesome maps and mods and to my Prodeus pal @PMUPapaTrickshot for enlightening me to these mods' existence.

P-Link: m-Q6mGtOtOS3Selaco: Blind Playthrough with Commentary (Captain Difficulty 5/12)steak jacobs2024-07-08 | Still wish I knew what's causing OBS to make the footage look like crap for this game. I'm guessing it might have something to do with the frame rate or camera shake but haven't made any progress, sorry.

Selaco on Steam: store.steampowered.com/app/1592280/SelacoTrying ULTRAKILL Custom Levels Part 9steak jacobs2024-07-05 | Last of the old recordings. No telling when Hakita will randomly finish ULTRAKILL so I'm a bit hesitant to record any new videos, but at the same time it feels like whenever I end up recording new ULTRAKILL content a big patch gets released so I might just do that to aid in speeding up the game's development, lol.

It still boggles my mind though just how incredibly talented the modding community is for this game considering it's not even fully released yet. This might be one of the most insanely dedicated communities I've seen for a game in a long while and I'm all for it even if I don't consider myself to be a huge part of it.

Also idk why but OBS does something uniquely stupid when recording this game where the footage looks corrupted during moments of fast movement or during big gun battles and I have no idea how to fix it. If anyone knows anything about recording Selaco gameplay and making it look smooth then please help me.
