Thundersnow in Toronto During Intense Winter Storm George Kourounis 2023-03-05 | Rare thundersnow in Toronto. March 3rd 2023Conditions were so severe during a very intense late-winter snowstorm that brought near-blizzard conditions to Canada's largest city, that thunder and lightning were frequently present. I measured 28 cm of snow at my house, but nearby, there was 32 cm reported. All of it came down in a storm that came in quickly, roared through the region, then exited as quickly as it arrived.Some snowstorms can be intense enough that the convection present can be similar to that of summer thunderstorms. This is sometimes seen in intense bands of lake-effect snow, but can also occur in regular snowstorms too. All across Ontario, people experienced this lightning. Even the C.N. MILLIONS Of Bats Exit Deer Cave George Kourounis 2023-02-22 | Millions of bats exit Borneo’s Deer Cave every night on their hunt for insects. There are about 12 species of bats that live in the cave, and 2 to 3 million of them live there at any given time.It was spectacular to watch them come out. It was like a “firehose of bats”. The exodus lasted about half an hour or so, and this video only contains some highlights. I witnessed the bats flying on 2 nights, and everything in this video is from just one of those emergences. Houses encrusted In Ice From Intense Winter Storm George Kourounis 2022-12-27 | The fury of Lake Erie.The recent storm that affected much of North America really put on a show along the shore of Lake Erie in Ontario. The intense winds and frigid temperatures cased the spray from the crashing waves to flash freeze on these houses along the lake, entombing them in ice. These amazing sculptures of ice really show how fragile our dwellings can be if we build them too close to the water. It was surreal to capture these today and it took some effort to get to a position where I could photograph them. The ice is thick, but it only covers the lake-facing side of the houses. The brownish colour comes from the dirt and sediment that were also whipped up by the storm. This is one of the most impressive displays of ice that I’ve ever seen. Turret Rock is nicknamed "Tremble Island" because it supposedly shakes from the force of the current when the tide shifts from the Pacific Ocean through Seymour Inlet.There are tales of people tying ropes to the trees on Turret Rock and water-skiing in the rapid current.I filmed this while on a voyage through the area in July 2021. It's late right now so I'll just give a quick synopsis... Witnessed at least 2 tornadoes, the best one in the town of Millsap, Texas. It was close enough to hear it clearly! An hour or so later, we were just south of Cleburne when the rotation passed in front of us from north to south with HUGE power flashes, then the tornado crossed in front of us AGAIN from south to north as it approached Cleburne in the dark! Unfortunately, there have been many reports of damage injuries and fatalities.
