As the You Tube Channel Sci-Fi Zone has presented the modern equivalent as a real programme, it seems an opportune moment to revive the original . This version has been heavily redited from the original as it used clips & video mashups from other fanfilms or which are currently blocked on You TubeDr Who Event- A day with Mark Strickson and Julie BrennanRussell Devlin2024-09-18 | This 1988 Dr Who Club of Victoria event , (held the day after the FEIP event uploaded earlier) welcomed Mark Strickson (Turlough in the 20th & 21st Peter Davison Dr Who seasons) and his wife Julie Brennan, who had appeared in the McCoy story "Paradise Towers"Starwalking 1 Con opener video & bloopers adjRussell Devlin2024-09-13 | In the late 80's & 90's SF conventions often had a fanmade video as part of the opening ceremony . These were usually video mashups, where clips from movies & TV shows were dubbed with music , or re-edited for humerous effect. This is an edited one from the Star Wars con Starwalking in 1989 , and features Battlestar Galactica taking on Star Wars , in reference to the plagiarism lawsuit between these two shows . These stories ran concurrently and featured the Daleks so I have adapted them as one long story. The comic format allowed considerable scope beyond the usual TV fare so the action moves from Antarctica with secret Dalek naval bases to post nuked Sydney to interplanetary adventure . Part of this story is in b/w as due to format changes the comic went from a full colour interior strip to colour cover with b/w interior. The Dr Who strip continued in the revised TV Action comic until that folded and then returned to TV Comic in a fully B/W version with Pertwee and then Tom Baker, though cost cutting saw some Baker strips reprinting Pertwee ones with Tom's face replacing Jon's but still wearing his dandy costume !Spaceships spfx test reelRussell Devlin2024-08-15 | A series of test SPFX using Spaceship minatures and art. Its B/W art was supplemented by photo inserts, a trick used in several other Anderson related comics and in subsequent issues the comic was a much more elaborate affair in full colour with stories spread over multiple issues, as seen in my earlier adaptions on this site. As UFO was superceded as Countdown's banner comic, single issue b/w comics returned until UFO was replaced by adaptions of newer TV seriesBlakes 7 Movie 1 - Against the FederationRussell Devlin2024-08-02 | This is an edited feature length presentation of my earlier Blakes 7 animations, which I have prepared as I have found in the past that many people prefer omnibus editions rather than individual stories . It more closely follows the order that the strips appeared in B7 Monthly in the early 80's , as when I originally produced them I didn't have all the stories and hadn't intended to make them all. As an extra viewing incentive I have had these colourised, which variously provides the characters with flesh skin tones or produces an effect similar to the black & single colour print often used in British comics, esp those seen in annuals.Jurassic World expo at Melbourne Museum - 2016Russell Devlin2024-07-30 | An Animatronic Dinosaur exhibition tied in with the Speilberg movies which has toured the World , here it is in Melbourne 2016. Concepts like giant spaceships with frozen passengers would turn up on the TV series a few years later as did the alien race name "Vogan" , while the Vogans are clearly modeled on the Dan Dare character "The Mekon" , see my earlier Dan Dare animation on this siteTimestorm with Sophie Aldred- Pt 2Russell Devlin2024-07-25 | The second part of the Timestorm convention featuring Sophie Aldred , who played the companion Ace in the last years of the original seriesNorth India trip - 2008Russell Devlin2024-07-22 | A visit to Northern India with Vegan travel organisation Veg VoyagesPoint Cook Airshow 2009Russell Devlin2024-07-21 | This is the first of a series of Airshows I am uploading to YT. Again this is a plotline which could easily have been used on the series and has the same serious approach as the series.Dr Who- The Gemini PlanRussell Devlin2024-03-28 | This is my adaption of the 1971 Countdown Comic of Doctor Who, based on Third Doctor Jon Pertwee. He had already appeared in TV Comic, but the Countdown version had much better colour artwork and serious SF stories in keeping with the First Season Pertwee stories like "The Silurians" & "Inferno". In this, the exiled Doctor manages to get the Tardis working, but it quickly conks out and deposits him deep in the deserts of Australia, where he discover a huge secret space project underway headed by a meglomaniac industialist which threatens all life on Earth...Spacehawk - The Treachery of SmebarRussell Devlin2024-03-22 | Based on Basil Wolverton's 8th Spacehawk story, this sees the intrepid space hero stop a coup and plan of conquest on the Planet Neptune. Basil Wolverton had been trying to build a career as a professional illustrative & comics artist through out the 30's in both humerous and serious strips. His eccentric style and downright weird characters worked best in comedy & the bizarre world of science fiction and the early 40's Spacehawk was one of his first successes. His editors were however opposed to his flights of fancy, and the advent of WW2 saw his hero change from fighting interplanetary menaces to more local villians on an Earth little advanced from the 40's USA, with streamlined trains replacing roaring rocketships.Doctor Who- Pertwee Countdown Comic TrailerRussell Devlin2024-03-19 | A trailer for my forthcoming Animation series based on the early 70's Pertwee Doctor comics from Countdown/TV ActionDocky Who - Attack of the VegiesRussell Devlin2024-03-18 | Happy Birthday Greg !! A special presentation of the Countdown Annual comic which is something of a precourser to the Tom Baker "Seeds of Doom" story which appeared some years laterStardust- 5th Column / Still EarthRussell Devlin2024-03-15 | This is an animation based on the 40's Superhero Stardust, created by Fletcher Hanks. Hanks was a relatively old cartoonist who was briefly active in the early 40's. At this time the peicework nature of comic book production had not been fully established viz story/pencil/inking/coloring handled by seperate members of a production team , so Fletcher was a full autuer doing it all himself, and oh what comics he produced ! He did some std adventure comics, but is best known for his Superheroes, such as Fantomah the first female SH of any type and as seen here Stardust the Space Wizard. The storytelling was on an extreme level, gangsters or spies would come up with some awful plan that threatened millions but Stardust, an almost omnipotent alien Giant who operated from his own asteroid, would use his space TV to identify the evil doers and then subject them to some ghastly fate. The second story here is one of the most bizarre I've ever seen, three Gangsters use a machine to stop the Earths rotation so everyone floats away and then they can loot the Earth's wealth ... erm where can they spend it ? Hanks stopped working in 1941, the reasons are unknown but probably because he was out of step with the frequent & rapid changes in the comics industry . He was also a chronic alcoholic and abandoned his family and ultimately died homeless in miserable circumstances in 1976 at the age of 86, freezing to death on a Manhattan Park Bench. His work was rediscovered in the last decades of the 20th Century, his style and concepts appealing to the Pop Art & Alternative Comic sensibilities of serious comics fans, and well produced collections appeared in the early 2000's .Blakes 7- THE OMENRussell Devlin2024-03-08 | This is my final animation of Blakes 7 and suitably it is the final comic that appeared in Blakes 7 Monthly. Avon has a vision of Blake just before a major Federation attack, which gives him a premonition of their final destiny.....Dark Shadows- Curse of the CovenRussell Devlin2024-02-27 | This story from the early 70's Syndicated Newspaper strip sees Mr Sinestre, evil occultist leader of a Coven of Witches, attempt to secure the Immortal Soul of Barnabas Collins, and throws his old lover & nemisis Angelique into the mix as well. I think this is the best story they did in this adaption and is closest to the TV plots, with a very close likeness to Lara Parker's Angelique, though the rotund Mr Sinestre resembles Simon Oakland more than the usual DS villian actor Humbert Allen AstredoUFO: Too Old at 32Russell Devlin2024-02-23 | This is the first of my animations based on the British Countdown/TV Action comic of the early 70's. This was an indirect successor to the wonderful TV21 comic of the 60's (see my earlier Dalek & Anderson animations) and reprinted many of those strips, but had new strips for the Anderson series UFO , Doctor Who (taking over from TV Comic's version) and the 2001 inspired "Countdown" . This is the third story from the UFO strip and is remarkably close to the series format, with both Commander Straker and an Moon Interceptor Pilot questioning if he is too old for the job. The strip panels have been augmented with adjusted pics from a variety of sources & mu own FX to expand the story. For those of you unfamiliar with UFO, it was a revamping of Anderson's earlier Captain Scarlet series, with a secret hi tech organisation SHADO combating an invasion by an enigmatic Alien force . The series was noted for the SPFX by Derek Meddings in his last work for the Andersons and was the best FX work to appear on a TV series upto that time, and also the drama between the characters , Ed Bishop's Straker in particularStar Wars Disturbance in the Force ‘The Fan Film That Never Was’ documentaryRussell Devlin2024-02-22 | This is a documentry about a Star Wars fanfilm from the early 2000's which was never completed, and is an interesting chronicle of fanfilmaking of that period, when hundreds of fanfilm projects appeared in response to the revival of the Star Wars franchise , many of which having aspirations to resemble the original. Interestingly many of these projects dealt with secondary & background characters from the Star Wars films, an approach subsequently adopted by some of the recent spinoff projects. I myself had some involvement with it, and it led me to the path which has produced the vids on this channelSpacehawk- Planetoid of PerilRussell Devlin2024-02-16 | This is the third Spacehawk adventure and is a sequel to the first adventure that I posted some months ago. It comprises the stories post the Mechanoid War viz Terrorkon Harvest, Legacy of Yesteryear, Shadow of Humanity, Emissaries of Jevo and Road to Conflict. It is based on the artwork of second Dalek Chronicle artist Ron Turner, who gave a stylized pop art rendition as compared to Richard Jenning's more realistic style. These adventures are already uploaded in individual form, but as my earlier compilations of Dan Dare, Abslom Daak & the early Dalek Chronicles have proved popular I offer them in feature format alsoAbslom Daak The MovieRussell Devlin2023-11-17 | As part of the 60th Anniversary Dr Who festivities , this is my own small offering , a feature length edit of my earlier Abslom Daak adaptions . I personally think they work better as individual stories but in the past my compilations have actually proven more popular than the shorter versions so here it is. The Comic first appeared in the Dr Who Weekly & Monthly magazines and is set around the time of the DW Stories "Frontier in Space" & "Planet of the Daleks" It deals with galactic adventurer & all round scoundrel Abslom Daak, who is sentenced to be teleported off to kill as many Daleks as possible before he himself is slain . Arriving on the Planet Mazam which has recently been taken over by the Daleks , he rescues the beautiful Princess Taiyin and destroys the invasion force there, but not before a Dalek shoots her. He then arrives at the Draconian Empire with Taiyin preserved in a cryogenic unit in the hope of reviving her, and meets & befriends Prince Salander , but gets caught up in an Imperial power struggle and escape in an advanced Attack ship. Daak then gathers some old "friends" together and they form the "Star Tigers" and again destroy a Dalek attack force. However a suprise attack sees them crash on Planet Hell leaving Daak the only survivor, and he meets the Seventh Dr Who and they both confront "The Nemisis of the Daleks ". The story is very different from normal Dr Who fare, it strongly shows the nilhilistic & violent influence of the new 2000 AD comic not to mention its black humour, and the action it depicts was not possible in the TV series until the post Millenium revived series. The Music comes from a variety of sources, primarily Dudley Simpson's Dr Who incidental work, but there is also a sizable slab of Wagner, Rock & Roll, Mack the Knife and even "A Walk in the Black Forest" . Despite his terminal fate in this, Abslom & his friends appeared in later comic adventures instalments, though I prefer to end it as it appears here.
