Regular speedrun and TAS don't allow this, but this TAS is meant for showing this special way of beating this game.The key to the route planning is whether to get the Ultimate Armor in Web Spider stage or Cyber Peacock stage, so I tested both routes, and the result shows that getting it in Cyber Peacock stage is about 130 frame faster.The run gets crazier and more complicated. Getting 14 1-Ups in SMB 3-2 by Kicking Shells HappyLee 2023-01-20 | How many lives can be gotten in 3-2 by kicking shells against other enemies? Surprisingly, 14.This demonstration TAS is inspired by Kosmic's rare 1-Ups video:youtu.be/AAjh72ytS44A completely different strategy is used, with a new technique, kicking the underground shell and catching it multiple times. It require precise inputs, and it allows the shell to travel a bit faster than Koopa's walking speed. The Koopa shell has to be kept to the end at least that far, otherwise one or two Goombas in the end may not show up (unless it's 2nd quest).Although the solution may not be as straightforward as Kosmic's, I believe it's the only way to gain maximum lives.I even attempted to kill a Koopa on the left with the shell. It's close, but sadly didn't work.

SMB 8-2 Full Flagpole Glitch with Ground Clip (no Bullet Bill) HappyLee 2022-07-22 | New setup, using a very hard and precise ground clip with a Koopa Paratroopa. Unfortunately, this strategy is 21 frames slower than regular FPG, and 63 frames slower than my any% TAS, so it can't be used to save time here, but it's still fun as a glitch demonstration.The fastest solution of this requires the Koopa Paratroopa to fall into the hole directly (enemy manipulation required). Normally Mario wouldn't be able to catch up with the Koopa, so one extra wall clip is required to alter Mario's screen X position. The principle of the ground clip is the same as the 1-1 ground clip demonstration I uploaded before.

Impossible Floor Clip with a Vine and 2 Enemies (SMB Glitch) HappyLee 2021-04-26 | Downward floor clip is usually considered impossible in Super Mario Bros (NTSC version). This one is a rare exception.DaSmileKat came up with the idea of using a vine and enemies to do a floor clip. It requires at least 2 enemies in SMB1, and 1 in SMB2J because of higher bounce. But it's hard to think of a place to actually perform it without using hacks or memory editing, so I came up with the idea of showing it in the beginning of 1-2, with a vine "stolen" from 5-2 by Luigi's death.This glitch requires extremely precise Y subspeed and Y subpixel. The vine is used because it provides a different Y subspeed than jumping and sliding, and the 2 Goombas are used to further adjust Y subspeed until we get the perfect Y subspeed required for this ground clip.There hasn't been a completely new SMB glitch found in 2 years, because rare glitches like this are extremely hard to find. Minimum A Press TAS (A Button Challenge, Fewest Jumps, 62 A Presses) HappyLee 2021-04-11 | Mario got tired of jumping, so we (HappyLee, Kriller37, DaSmileKat, Kosmic & periwinkle) made this TAS aiming for the minimum amount of A button presses, beating SMB in only 62 A presses, in 10:24.39.This is probably the most INSANE and most complicated SMB TAS ever, with lots of nearly impossible moves and crazy ideas & glitches that you won't see in other TASes.Highlights (out of many): In 4-1, we performed a glitch that turns a Spiny into a Koopa, and used the underground Koopa throughout the whole stage to save many jumps. In 8-1 we did 3 amazing ground clips. In 8-2, we used crazy enemy setups and completed the whole stage in only 4 jumps. In 8-3, we raised 2 underground Koopas together. Beating Super Mario Bros. Without Pressing Left (TAS in 10:47.93) HappyLee 2020-11-14 | SMB can be completed without ever pressing Left. This TAS demonstrates the fastest way possible. It's interesting that the fastest route happens to show entering 5-1 through 1-2 wrong warp glitch.Authors (who have their Left button broken): HappyLee, Kriller37, Mars608 & KFCMarioHappyLee: I started this project back in 2009. Mars608 and KFCMario joined the project mostly during 2012 to 2015. We've made several demo runs, but the project was postponed many times simply because a Firebar in 6-4 always gets in our way. I felt that there should be a way to avoid that.I restarted this project in 2020 with Kriller37. The 6-4 Firebar problem was solved with 5-1 Bullet Bill glitch ending, which is the hardest and the last piece of the puzzle. Killer37 finished many stages like 5-3, 7-1, 8-1 and 8-2, and his great skills and high efficiency make this TAS finally see the light of the day in 2020.Q: Why do you slow down in many places?A: Most of the slow downs are for entertainment, and some to avoid certain timer. This game has 21 frame rule, so slowing down doesn't necessarily mean time loss.Q: Can this be done by real-time speedrunners?A: I believe YES, because SMB speedrunners nowadays have done crazier things. There's no super-hard glitch involved in this route. I'd certainly love to see a "no Left" real-time speedrun someday. :)
