Vanners Collaboration - Our Dream Motorhome.
updated
This is the final episode of our European motorhome tour, as we make our way north through France towards Calais — and the journey home.
But this one didn’t quite go to plan…
The rain never lets up, and to top it off, we lose a big chunk of our footage after an SD card mishap 😬 — including our stop at Bray-sur-Somme.
That said, it’s not all lost…
We still bring you:
A visit to Seurre, a beautiful riverside town
A look at the CampingCarPark aire by the river
The reality of travelling in relentless bad weather
A glimpse of the journey north through France
And a look at what should have been, via the CampingCarPark site
Because motorhome travel isn’t always perfect — and that’s part of the adventure.
🚐🌧️ In This Episode
Final drive north through France
Non-stop rain (again!)
SD card formatting disaster 😱
Lost footage & how we dealt with it
Seurre riverside aire & town
Honest end to our European tour
💬 We Need Your Help!
We’ve got a full tour wrap-up video coming next — and we’d love your input:

We leave rain-soaked Empuriabrava and head north, crossing the Spanish border into France. The reward? A stunning glimpse of the snow-capped Pyrenees — a proper “we’re on the move again” moment.
Then it’s back to reality…
French motorways. French toll booths. And more rain.
Our destination is a CampingCarPark aire at La Roque-sur-Cèze, but there’s a problem — the access bridge is too narrow for us. Plan A quickly becomes Plan B.
We divert and end up in Viviers, an historic riverside city on the Rhône. It’s atmospheric, charming… and still very wet.
In this episode we:
Cross the Spain–France border
Drive past the beautiful Pyrenees
Navigate French autoroutes and tolls
Discover we’re too wide for the planned aire
Switch to Plan B (again!)
Show you Viviers from the comfort of the van
Film a slightly soggy site tour
Share the realities of travelling in persistent bad weather
Sometimes touring Europe isn’t sunshine and beaches — sometimes it’s adaptability, sat nav re-routing, and windscreen wipers working overtime.
👉 Next episode: the final stop of our European Tour in Seurre near Dijon, parked beside a river in a pretty (but still wet!) French town. We’ll also be bringing you a full tour wrap-up very soon.

There’s just one problem…
It doesn’t stop raining.
What should have been sunshine reflecting on tranquil canals turns into relentless downpours — and then our phones light up with a civil defence “risk to life” weather warning. Not quite the dreamy Mediterranean arrival we had imagined.
Despite the weather:
We show you the brand new aire where we stayed
Capture aerial views of the canals during a brief break in the rain
Give you a feel for this extraordinary waterside town
Share our honest thoughts on visiting in bad weather
Empuriabrava is genuinely a fantastic and unique destination — just not at its best when it’s soaked. We’ll definitely be back to see it properly.

We pick up where we left off on the beautiful seafront, lined with grand historic villas, stylish bars, and excellent restaurants. It’s elegant, relaxed, and full of character.
We stroll along the promenade, stop for a snack, and try croquettes — including two filled with squid ink. Sha bravely takes one for the team (black mouth and all!) while Alan firmly refuses. Verdict? Surprisingly tasty!
We also explore the town centre of Benicàssim, giving you a feel for this upmarket coastal resort before rounding off the day with a traditional Sunday Roast at the campsite restaurant.
But tomorrow we move on…
👉 Next episode: we head to Empuriabrava — the “Venice of the Costa Brava.” Canals, water everywhere… although not quite the kind we expected. Most of it came from the sky, along with a dramatic “risk to life” civil defence weather warning on our phones. Spain certainly keeps things interesting.

After two heavy driving days, we finally slow the pace and give you a full site tour of Bonterra Resort, one of the most upmarket and expensive campsites we’ve stayed on during this trip. But does it justify the price?
We show you:

What you actually get for your money
We then take a walk from the site down to the beach, showing just how close Bonterra is to the coast. With the help of drone footage, you really get to see the site’s fantastic location and how it sits between the sea and the town.
This episode is all about comfort, location, and deciding when to treat yourself on a long European motorhome tour.

After staying an extra day at Les Roches Bungalows & Camping in Conil de la Frontera (thanks to Alan losing a tooth and needing an emergency dentist visit 😬), we finally set off… straight into torrential rain and flooding.
With no destination in mind and keen to escape the bad weather, we make a spontaneous decision to follow the southern coast of Spain eastbound, driving until it feels right to stop.
That night?
👉 Wild camping in a supermarket car park — from dentist drama to bargain overnight stop!
After a peaceful night, we push north again, making countless calls before finally securing a pitch at Bonterra Resort in Benicàssim. In the space of 48 hours, we go from our cheapest stop of the trip to the most expensive — classic motorhome life.
We settle in, breathe out, and prepare for a few well-earned days of rest after two long, wet driving days.

The ride continues through a beautiful natural park, winding through pine forests, before heading back to Conil de la Frontera — this time exploring the river estuary, a quieter and very different side of the town.
We complete the loop and return to Les Roches campsite, wrapping up another varied and scenic day on two wheels.

We take the KTM out for a scenic loop ride, heading inland to the stunning pueblo blanco of Vejer de la Frontera. This historic hilltop town is immaculate — full of narrow white streets, rich history, and breathtaking views.
We park up, explore on foot, soak up the atmosphere, and enjoy a well-earned drink in the square before continuing our ride. The route itself was… not quite what we expected — despite being put together by ChatGPT — but that’s all part of the adventure!
Sha proves she’s still got it, climbing back on the bike and reliving our younger days, showing that adventure doesn’t stop just because the years keep ticking by.

We start by giving you a full tour of La Roche Bungalows & Camping, a really lovely campsite close to Conil de la Frontera — a great base for exploring this part of southern Spain.
With the van settled, it’s time to get the KTM 390 out and head off for a ride. We ride into the port and town, taking in the marina, spotting five black cats (surely that’s good luck!), and wandering through narrow white Spanish streets full of character.
The day finishes with a walk along the vast, beautiful beach, where we also notice plenty of wild camping going on nearby — always an interesting talking point in Spain.

After a surprisingly peaceful night, we pack up and head back onto the spectacular A-7, travelling south towards Conil de la Frontera. We’ve stayed here before, but this time we’re aiming for something new.
Our Plan A is a different campsite, Roselada, while Plan B is the familiar and friendly Camping Les Roches — a site we last visited years ago in our Kontiki, during a memorable Romany festival. Which plan works out? You’ll have to watch to find out…
Along the way we hit a surprise — tolls in Spain, despite much of the online info saying there aren’t any. Eventually we arrive, get set up, and even get the motorbike out, ready for the next stage of our adventure.

We leave Palomares heading for Torrox, but our intended campsite turns out to be a complete fail. Our plans delivered a journey along the spectacular AP-7 coastal route with stunning scenery… but the stop for the night was a fail.
That is, until we accidentally wild camp in a quiet lay-by at Calacietes — a place we later discover is actually listed on Park4Night (pure luck!). What follows is one of those unforgettable motorhome moments that reminds us why we travel this way.
We explore the coast with the drone, walk down to the beach, discover a beautiful model castle – Castillo Calacietes, and settle in for our first ever wild camp overnight in Spain. By morning, we’re surrounded by an international mix of 12 vans from across Europe — proof that sometimes Plan B is the best plan.

With the van safely repositioned, we hop on the bikes and head into L’Estartit… although not quite the way we intended at first 🙄. Once we find our bearings, the ride turns into something special as we follow the seafront, take in the marina, and enjoy stunning views of the Islas Medes and the area’s dramatic rocky coastline.
A relaxed stop for a drink at an outdoor café, plenty of people-watching, and a scenic ride back to the campsite round off a really enjoyable day.
This is exactly why we love motorhoming in Europe — freedom, flexibility, and discovering beautiful places at our own pace.

It’s a good driving day as we head south from Grau-du-Roi, stocking up on supplies at Lidl before reaching Camping Les Medes in L’Estartit. The site itself is lovely, but the tight pitches and low trees make parking… interesting. 😬
A tricky manoeuvre, some questionable directions, and unfortunately a bump to the van land Sha firmly in the doghouse — but that’s real motorhome life, and we carry on regardless. Once settled, we give you a proper look around the campsite, which turns out to be a great base despite the tight access.
The journey doesn’t always go perfectly, but that’s all part of touring Europe — and we wouldn’t change it.
👉 Next episode: we explore the beautiful L’Estartit area and coastline.

We leave Villefranche-sur-Saône and point the motorhome south, heading for the Mediterranean coast. This is a proper road trip day — plenty of chat from the driving seat, changing scenery, motorway aires, toll booths, and a few moments of… interesting French driving!
We pass through the vast city of Lyon, taking it all in from the cab, stop at several motorway aires, and slowly watch the weather improve as we head south.
By the end of the day, we roll into Grau-du-Roi Camping-Car Park aire, park up right by the sea, and finally arrive in Mediterranean sunshine. This episode really shows that sometimes it’s not about the destination — it’s about getting there.
With poor mobile reception , Starlink proves to be an absolute godsend, keeping us connected when everything else fails.

After landing in Calais, we head off in search of food, somehow managing to miss a huge Carrefour before eventually finding an Intermarché to stock up for the road ahead. With supplies on board, we start heading south and settle in for our first night on French soil.
Our stop for the night is O’Lihan Parc, where thick fog rolls in and makes for a very peaceful evening — until the electricity keeps tripping, forcing us to rethink our plans. The next day we move on to a Camping-Car Park aire at Le Chêne, which turns out to be an excellent stopover and a great introduction to French aires.
This episode is all about the reality of starting a European motorhome tour — finding food, choosing stopovers, and adapting when things don’t quite go to plan.

In this episode of our European motorhome tour, we leave Bearsted CAMC Site and head to Dover to catch the Irish Ferries crossing to Calais. When we get on board we tuck into a huge Irish breakfast, explore the ferry, and show you what it’s like taking a motorhome across the Channel by ferry.
After a smooth crossing, we roll off the ferry and arrive in France, officially beginning the European leg of our adventure. From CAMC stopovers to continental roads, this is the moment we’ve been building up to — Europe at last!

And what a start… pouring rain in Poole, a flat motorhome battery, then gearbox issues — all before we even leave the UK!
In this vlog, we pick up the van from storage, deal with a few unexpected dramas, and finally get ourselves back on the road. After settling in at Hunters Moon CAMC Site in Wareham, we enjoy a couple of tasty nights out (pizza… and a cheeky kebab!).
From there we head across the country to Bearsted CAMC Site, perfectly placed for our early-morning sailing with Irish Ferries. The adventure really begins as we get ready to cross the Channel and start our spontaneous, unbooked tour of Europe!
If you enjoy real-life motorhome travel — the good, the bad, and the slightly chaotic — this episode is for you.
