The Longest Journey Saga (Dreamfall) // No Ones Here To Sleep [GMV]

Have you ever heard of The Longest Journey series? Because it's never too late you know. It has a crazy plot that's both futuristic sci-fi and fantasy, interesting 3-dimensional female lead characters, a talking bird you're gonna love... what else would you need?

I never thought that I'd think about making a vid for a video game, but I gotta say, making this was pretty fun. I recorded my own gameplay for the Dreamfall and Dreamfall Chapters (although the fps was terrible this way in the latter's case, my laptop is not strong enough for this) parts, but The Longest Journey is so retro that my recorded didn't recognize the format it uses for the videos. So I downloaded some walkthroughs from youtube instead. That's one of the reasons why the quality on those is so abysmal. The other is that this game is from freaking 1999, so yep, put that into perspective.

And honestly, just give this game a shot. They're releasing Dreamfall Chapters in 5 parts, and only Book One has been out so far, so you can still catch this bandwagon. The first game is classic point and click, the rest are adventure games, there's some very little combat in the second game but that's never in the focus. The whole franchise is just so incredibly story-driven and there's so much world-building, so if you're into that then this is your game, honestly.

Her favorite TV show is Doctor Who. One time, she met Stephen Hawking on a plane, and he told her she was brilliant. One time, she hit me in the head with a fire extinguisher. It was awesome.

Let's face it, there's not enough Jemma Simmons love in this world, and that needed to change. Her arc this season in particular has been fascinating so far, yet I haven't been able to find a single Jemma-themed fanvid ever since the season started. Shame on you fandom.

mse 2014-03-09 | A video made from my choices for the Top 9 female-led movies of 2013.

You may ask, why 9? And well, I could say that it's because I only managed to finish this by March 9th, but that would be a lie. The reason why I didn't do a proper Top 10 is because a) Hollywood is terrible and it doesn't give me the female-led movies I want; and b) while I watched a fair load of movies this year, I didn't watch them all, therefore my choices were even more limited. Although I will say this, there were 3 other movies with female leads that I quite liked and considered including, but at the end of the day I decided that I'd rather have a video made of the 9 movies that I really loved, rather than of the 9 and 1 that I merely just 'liked'.

It's important to remember that this list is very subjective. So don't ask me why I didn't include X and Y. Because that's why. You are free however to recommend movies outside of this list - and you should!

Regarding the movies, I'm fairly certain that most people will recognize at least 4 of these. 5, if you're an Oscar-freak. If you don't, then you should think about your life and your choices and check them out as quickly as possible.

There are also two wonderful indie movies, that you may or may not heard of, and those are: Frances Ha and Short Term 12. Both movies are brilliant with brilliant lead characters played by brilliant actresses. They're just brilliant, okay? Frances is this smartly written light-hearted story about a 27-year-old woman going through a kind of life crisis, and Short Term is a simple, both lovely and gut-wrenching drama about a young woman working in a foster-care facility.

I also added a documentary, Stories We Tell, because it's honestly one of my favorite movies of the year. Even if you're not a fan of the format, I encourage you all to give it a shot. It's adorable and incredibly personal and just really offers a whole new take on the documentary genre.

And then there's Upstream Color, which could be one of the weirdest movies you see this year. But even though you probably won't get everything about it for the first viewing (or the 100th), it's such a beautiful movie with underlying themes such as trauma and human connection, that you might not even mind. It's also the only movie on this list that arguably has a male-female co-lead structure, but since the female character is definitely more dominant to the story, I categorized it as a female-driven film.

I've started working on this a billion years ago, but thanks to CF I finally managed to find some inspiration to actually finish it.

I only wish I did - I wouldn't have in a million years put such a special snowflake like Katniss through all these sufferings. JK. I probably would've wanted, but in no way I could've come up with so much shit for her.

Since I got a total of like 5 comments here and on my Tumblr account I understandably won't be doing the 10 ships thing. But I will make a vidlet for everyone who did take their time to vote, probably to their No.1 ship on their list.

Well, now at least I know that those followers I have are virtually nonexistent by now. :P

Okay, I've seen this being done around here, and decided to give it a shot. Basically you choose your 5 ships from the fandoms that are listed inside the vid ( 1:10 - 1:20 ), and the top 10 will each get a vidlet.

Those fandoms might get expanded (e.g.: I just realized that I almost finished watching Everwood, so that's gonna be in the mix as well from now on), and your choices are pretty much limitless, since I pretty much ship everything. I would still like to ask you though to rather go with ships that are at least a bit canon-like. (Basically meaning that they preferably have a certain relationship but not necessarily a romantic one ;) )

You can pretty much ignore the vid itself though beside the fandom list. This was my multifandom vid that never got made. I started working on it, then it started becoming a mess, then I started to have tons of other ships and I wanted to include them all but I just couldn't... So yeah. :)

I'm pretty sure that I'm gonna leave this thing open until December at least, so take your time.

I should probably write another description. Maybe when I'm awake.

First of all: congratulations if you actually managed to watch this through. Four for you! :)

EDIT: I forgot how much YouTube messes with the quality. Still, it would've taken ages to render this in HD, so this has to be enough now.

I purposefully edited with a slower pace here, not just because of the song (it's hard to vid Coldplay you know, since you can't just cut a Coldplay song, Jesus, why would you even think about doing that), but because this show is full of pretty shots and Emily VanCamp's pretty face, and I wanted to capture that. Obviously I failed, but hey, at least I tried. ;)

Anyway this was meant to be done a while ago, but somehow I got sidetracked by an unexpected Everwood marathon. I wonder why.

And if you are not watching Revenge, I would highly recommend it. It does go over to the soapy side - Is that really a problem though? - after an exceptionally awesome start nevertheless the characters are fabulous, and there are some pretty damn great performances. (Remember young!Zedd with the deep UNF voice? Just. UNF. If the whole show was about Gabriel Mann reading a shopping list I would still tune in).

And from now on I'll just keep trusting the good will and understanding of all those nice people at the ABC and EMI. Because you see, as you all know I don't own this footage or audio track. Also I'd like to mention how I don't make any profit by making or sharing this small fun fan product, it is strictly for our own little entertainment. And if anything, I only intend to promote a show and a music group really close to my heart.

I can't really explain why I'm suddenly on a (crappy) vidding spree, and why I'm using this fandom (which won't be named and please don't mention it in the comments either) with its low quality material. I also can't explain really why I did a shippy vid and especially why with this pairing.

YES, I'm watching Castle now. Among another million things. It is definitely the most brilliant crime show out there at the moment. Period.

This was supposed to be finished before the season 4 premiere (hence why there's not as much S4 angst in it as you'd expect), but then I had computer issues and by the time they were solved, I've lost the inspiration. And then suddenly I decided to get back to it and voila.

The editing is a bit messy, but since I rendered in HD (I don't even know why I did that. NEVER AGAIN.) I had precious little patience to do any re-editing. And I'm not sure if I like the whole look of it but hey. This is my first proper vid since February so please. Bare with me. ;)

And RIP my hard drive. Which had a few of my most beloved (and procrastinated) projects on it.

Sanctuary [ANGEL style] Opening Credis

I've never done this sort of thing before. But somehow it seemed like a very good idea at the time. [Please, never, ever let me near Sony Vegas at 3 AM again.] Obviously I used the Angel credits (season 5 to be specific) as a guideline but there are no actual clips from there. Only the music. D'YA HEAR ME, FOX?

Again, not a regular vid, and again, this show. But it's so pretty and VIDDABLE! So you might as well get used to it, because I may actually vid it in the future.

And Sanctuary's like Angel, right? Only a bit lighter. And a bit more sci-fi. And with a female lead, who's only 160 years old (so pretty much a youngster). And vampires are merely supportive cast. And the storyline is different. Alright, so it's nothing like Angel. But what is? (Or Sanctuary for that matter.)

Also don't forget the fact that this song, the Angel theme is actually called "Sanctuary". So it was really in fact the Powers That Be that made this happen. ;D

And yep, this thing is still watermarked. [But you see, it's almost invisible. :D] Not that I don't trust you guys or think that anyone would be interested in stealing this crap. I'm just kinda used to it. Old habits and all. ;)
