The doctors came into her hospital bedroom and told her mother, “We've done everything we know to do. She's not going to live". Madeline describes how her mother being a woman of faith, responded with, "mm-hmm, let her walk out the door!" And she prayed and asked God to "give me my little girl back”. And if he did, she would raise her in the ways of the Lord the best way she knew how. Madeline went on to become one of the greatest Olympic athletes of all time. Five consecutive times in the US Olympics Team as an 800 metre runner and World record holder at 1 minute 57 seconds. Her athletics career stretched from the 1968 Mexico Olympics - where she won the Gold Medal - to the 1980 Moscow Olympics (where the US Team was eventually prohibited from competing due to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan). Madeline personally witnessed the terrorist attack on the Israeli Olympic Team in Munich 1972 and has served at numerous events since then as a Chaplain to the US Athletics team. She describes meeting Prince William & Princess Kate at the London 2012. One memorable line of many from this captivating interview is when Madeline says "we are a daughter or son of the Most High Living God. He is the Great I Am. He's Creator of all things. And once you come in realisation that that's who He is, then your competition changes. And you reach out to others who are competing, even though they're competing against you”.Q&A SHOW - BREAKING NEWS - Two Children killed and Six in Critical Condition in Southport, LiverpoolRevelation TV2024-07-30 | Cyrus was joined Pastor Derek Walker from The Oxford Bible Church for a Live Q&A Show. This week they discussed the two children who have been killed and nine others are injured after a knife attack in Southport, north of Liverpool, this morning. All of the nine children who were injured were stabbed and six are in a critical condition. Two adults are also in a critical condition. Merseyside Police Chief Constable Serena Kennedy said: "We believe that the adults who were injured were bravely trying to protect the children who were being attacked." The King and Queen are among those who have sent their "deepest sympathies" to the families of those affected. A 17-year-old boy from Banks in Lancashire, born in Cardiff in Wales, has been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. Pastor Derek gave his thoughts to this breaking news, talked about the importance of prayer and answered many Live Viewer questions during the 1 Hour Live Question and Answers Programme.

In a world where high status and position is the priority and recognised as successful, humility can be difficult to walk out in our lives. The disciples’ mindset in the Biblical times wasn’t too far away from today’s modern thinking, when they wanted greatness in the Kingdom of Heaven. But Jesus’ teaching turned this on its head when he said ‘whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven’.God Day - The Great Appointment With DeathRevelation TV2024-07-30 | Death is a subject that many do not like to contemplate nor talk about. Yet, this subject is mentioned and addressed numerous times in the Bible. In fact, in Psalm 90, the writer petitions the Lord to help us to learn how to number our days and live wisely. This solemn message is a reminder to all believers that we all ordained to have this inevitable appointment with death and yet we need not fear, for the sting of death is gone.Bible Study Psalms C49 V10-20Revelation TV2024-07-29 | The Way of the Foolish (Psalm 49:10-20) Psalm 49 describes the folly of a man, who trusts and boasts in riches rather than God (v6), for his money is of no value in redeeming his soul from sin and hell, and can’t purchase for him a blessed eternal life after death (v7-9). v10: “For (surely) he sees wise men die; likewise, the fool and the senseless person perish.” It’s an obvious fact of life that this life is short and all die, yet he lives in denial, as if he’ll live forever, giving no thought and making no preparation for his life after death (we show what we really believe by how we live). He suppresses the unpleasant, inconvenient thought of death, and holds onto an inner belief that he will live forever, v11a: “Their inner thought is that their houses will last forever, their dwelling places to all generations.” This could mean they foolishly imagine themselves living forever in their houses, or they’ll take their wealth with them after death, or that their magnificent graves will be their houses forever, so that at least they’ll be remembered. v11b: “They call their lands after their own names.” Hungering for a kind of immortality, they hope to live on in people’s memories by propagating their name on earth, attaching it to their estates & institutions that will last down the generations, instead of focusing on having their name written in Heaven, the important only place for our name to be in eternity. But this is futile, he might as well write it on the water. Even if they have some success in this, how do they benefit? And in the end, they’ll be forgotten (Prov 10:7). This Section concludes with the Refrain, v12: “Nevertheless man, though in honour (despite his wealth), does not remain (lit: ‘lodge here for long’); he is like the beasts that perish.” The outcome for all men at death is the same as animals; their bodies perish. Thus, the wise man does not trust in riches or invest his all in this life, but considers the shortness of his life and prepares for eternity by trusting God. A man who fails to do this is animal-like, and will die like a beast with no future hope (v20). Whereas Part 1 of the answer to the Riddle of v5 emphasises that all men are equal as far as the fact of death is concerned (v7-12), Part 2 reveals there is a great and irreversible difference between the fate of fools and saints after death (v13-20, Heb 9:27). There are 2 roads (1) to destruction and (2) to life, and after death it will be clear on which road you’ve been walking.v13: “This is the WAY (or destination) of those who are foolish (whose way through life is a foolhardy self-confidence, senselessly secure in the face of death, despite all warnings hoping there’s no God or life after death, and thinking they can live any way they like without judgment and eternal consequences. This way values the material over the spiritual and doesn’t prepare for eternity will be revealed as foolish), and of their posterity (followers) who approve their sayings.” This does not just include the foolish rich, but those who admire, aspire & embrace their godless world-view and agree with their words, perhaps benefiting from their power and prestige. You can love money even if you don’t have much of it. “Selah.” The Selah makes one to pause in anticipation of what’s coming next, to focus our attention on what will revealed in v14 – a important warning of the fruit of folly, the destination of the fool – HELL. v14a: “Like sheep (like beasts v12,20) they are laid in the grave (Sheol).” Lit: “As sheep for Sheol, they have set themselves” (it’s their own decision), or: “Like sheep they are appointed for SHEOL (the Pit, see Luke 16:19-31).” At death, they are compared to sheep, for they impotent to resist being escorted to Hell. v14b: “DEATH shall feed on them” or better: “Death shall be their shepherd.” A shepherd owns his sheep and takes it where he wants. Thus, Death shepherds them into Sheol. Death takes their body, then Sheol takes their souls (Rev 1:18, 6:8). What a difference after death! The fool will be shepherded by Death into Sheol. But for those who trust and boast in the Lord, rather than riches, He is our Shepherd (Ps 23, 1Pet 1:25), and we belong to Him. He will shepherd us at death into glory (v15). This contrast in destiny is emphasised in v14c: “The upright shall have dominion over (higher status than) them in the morning.” This refers to when God will bring in a new day by His manifested glory, giving the righteous a glorious resurrection, vindicating them and exalting them above the wicked, who lived their life without thought of God or the life to come (reversal of status). He continues this contrast, by another look at the fool after death in v14d: “and their beauty (form, both of soul & body) shall be consumed in the grave (lit: ‘Sheol’), far from their dwelling (or: ‘so there is no dwelling place for it (their soul).’”....

Then in v14-18 he describes the 7 pieces of the Armour of God. Derek shares about the Belt of Truth and how to put it on (v14), and the Sword of the Spirit, which is the spoken word (rhema) of God (v17), and how they work together. The Belt of Truth consists of God's Word (John 17:17), which we are to put on tight by wrapping our heart around with His commands and promises, bringing our thoughts into alignment (1Pet 1:13). Our Belt consists of the Word of God that we know and have embraced until it is part of us. It is the foundational piece of Armour, which is why it is mentioned first (the sword, shield and breastplate were attached to it). If loose, the whole armour falls apart. The Sword of the Spirit fits in the Belt. In a fight, a soldier pulls his sword from his belt. Likewise, in a spiritual fight, we pull a Scripture-Sword from our Belt of Scriptures as quickened by the Spirit, and put in our mouth and speak it. It will then go forth in the power of the Spirit against the enemy. God's Word is like a sharp sword (Hebrews 4:12). Jesus used His Sword 3 times to defeat Satan, saying: "it is written" (Matthew 4:3-10). For the Sword to work we must first have our Belt on tight (know the Word well). We also see the Sword in action in Rev 12:11, Isa 54:17, and Psalm 149:6-9.The Middle East Report Why the Church must demonstrate love and courage towards IsraelRevelation TV2024-07-26 | Simon Barrett interviews Pastor John Hemus from the Apostolic Church in Liverpool and Magen David Adom UK, On why the Church must demonstrate love and courage towards Israel at this critical time. Then Paul describes 6 pieces of Armour in v14-17: (1) the Belt of Truth, (2) the Breastplate of Righteousness, (3) the Gospel Shoes, (4) the Shield of the Faith, (5) the Helmet of Salvation, and (6) the Sword of the Spirit. Then v18 describes a 7th item of our Armour – the Lances of Prayer: “praying always with all kinds of prayer and supplication in the Spirit.” Standing firm in our defensive Armour means that we are ready to launch our offensive long-range weapons – the Lances of Prayer. First, we study the Lance of Praise, which binds and silences the enemy (Psalm 8:1-2, Matthew 21:16, Psalm 149:6-9). Secondly, we study the Lance of the Sacrifice of Thanksgiving - thanking God in advance for the fulfilment of His promises and the manifested victory, based on His revealed character (faithfulness). This should be our lifestyle (Hebrews 12:15), and it prepares the way for God to show (manifest) His salvation (Psalm 50:23). Derek then illustrates the place and power of this Sacrifice in (1) the Feeding of the 5000 (John 6:11,23), (2) Jonah's deliverance from the great fish (Jonah 2:9-10), (3) Paul and Silas in prison (Acts 16:23-34), and (4) God fighting for Israel in the time of Jehoshaphat (2Chronicles 20). Finally, we study the Lance of the Prayer of Binding and Loosing in the Name of Jesus, where we use the Keys of the Kingdom to enforce Christ’s finished work and completed victory on earth (Matthew 16:18-19, 18:18). We can bind and loose on earth, whatever Christ has already bound or loosed in Heaven through the New Covenant.Behind the Headlines The Greatest Olympic story of all time marks its 100th anniversaryRevelation TV2024-07-24 | On Friday 26th July, the thirty third Olympiad will open in Paris to mark the opening of the Olympic games, where athletes from around the world will compete for gold in the French capital. When she walks through doors of Stanton, she's scared, she feels alone, it's an unexpected pregnancy. She doesn't know what to do, she doesn't know where to turn. And when she leaves (following an 18 month programme of support) she's hope-filled, she's confident, she has a plan, and she has peace in her heart“. Brandi also affirms that God loves these women. He loves these children. He loves the fathers of these babies. He invented and created and loves the whole concept of family.Q&A Show - Christian Teenagers Distribute 4,000 Bibles on London StreetsRevelation TV2024-07-23 | Cyrus was joined Pastor Derek Walker from The Oxford Bible Church for a Live Q&A Show. This week they discussed how A teenager called James Campbell-Wynter and his friend Angus decided to distribute Bibles and share the word of God with the people passing through the streets of central London. The idea started came when Angus saw a post on social media from friends in Australia who had set up a street stall with lots of Bibles. With a hundred Bibles in hand, the young people headed to Trafalgar Square. Although they were afraid at first, they gathered courage and prepared to share the gospel through this prayer: “Lord, do whatever you want. “We are here for one person.” A family approached the place where they stored Bibles and the mother shared her testimony: “We simply became Christians. We’ve never been to church, we don’t have Bibles, but this morning I prayed for a sign, and here you are!” They said, “A man named Harry appeared at the booth. He had just arrived from Peru. He said he shouldn't be in Hammersmith, but there he was. He heard the Gospel, we prayed for him and invited him to church,” “When he arrived, he dropped his bag and immediately fell on his knees and started worshiping God. Everyone was declaring praise to God and Harry started shouting: 'Jesus is Lord! Jesus is the lord!' We prayed for him and asked him: 'Do you want to accept Jesus now?' And he said, 'Yes!'" James and Angus continued buying Bibles and continue sharing the word of God. Since He called Himself ‘the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob’ (Ex 3:15), even after their physical death, and “He is not the God of the dead, but of the living” (Lk 20:37-38, Matt 22:32, Mk 12:26-27), they must still be alive, and in covenant with Him - “for all live to Him” (Lk 20:38). “Psalm 49 - To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of the sons of Korah.” It is a Wisdom Psalm that deals with the problem of the prosperity of the wicked (also 37, 73), and proves that faith in a future life is in the Old Testament. It reveals the folly of trusting & boasting in wealth or envying others for their wealth, and sets the present prosperity of those who don’t know God in an eternal perspective. The Introduction (v1-4), emphasises the importance of the subject matter and builds suspense. v1-2: “Hear this, all peoples; give ear, all inhabitants of the(transitory) world, both low and high (in status), rich and poor together.” Conscious of the greatness of his subject, he called all people of all classes, to listen, and then continues to keep them in suspense by impressing on them the value of what he will unfold to them in v3: “My mouth shall speak wisdom(s), and the meditation(s) of my heart shall give understanding(s).” This is like the start of Proverbs. The use of the plural indicates great & important wisdom & understanding. v4: “I will incline my ear to a PROVERB (a true wisdom teacher must first listen to God in humility, before sharing it). I will disclose (open, expound) my dark saying (riddle, hard question) on the harp” or: “tell on the harp how I read the RIDDLE.” At the core of this Psalm is a PROVERB (v12,20) and a RIDDLE (v5). He now gives the RIDDLE, v5: “WHY should I FEAR in the days of evil, when the iniquity at my heels surrounds me? (or: ‘when the iniquity of those who cheat, supplant, persecute me surrounds me’).” A riddle is a question or statement intentionally phrased, so insight is required in ascertain its answer or meaning (Judges 14:14). In view of what he knows from God, he does not fear - why? The answer will be revealed in the Psalm, by looking at the eternal perspective. He, in contrast to them, has no reason to fear in the days of evil. ‘Iniquity at my heels’ (v5) is an allusion to Gen 3:15, where the serpent (satan) bites the Messiah (the Seed of the woman), fulfilled by Christ on the Cross when He took the poison of our sin, and died. So, these are the words of Christ. Why should He not fear? This is also revealed in Gen 3:15, which gives the end of the story, with Christ rising from the dead and crushing the serpent underfoot. The Psalmist describes the ones who were snapping at his heels as: “Those who trust in their wealth and boast in the multitude of their riches” (v6). It isn’t a sin to be rich (see Abraham and David, who trusted in the Lord and boasted in Him, rather than their riches). The sin is trusting and boasting in that wealth, which is idolatry. Jesus said we either love and trust God or money (Matt 6:24). God does not mind you having money, but He minds money having you (the way for the rich to establish their trust in God and guard against the love of money is to be a generous giver. This Psalm reveals the future and folly of materialists, who are bound to riches, and driven by their desire for things, who value themselves by what they possess. They are illustrated by the Parable of the Rich Fool (Luke 12:15-21), which ends with him losing all at his sudden death: “So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God” (v21). Ps 49 contrasts this man with the one who trusts & loves God. The concept of love of riches can be extended to riches of power, status, experience, achievement & fame (1Jn 2:15-17). The Structure is governed by the refrain (v12,20). v20 repeats v12, but changes one key word (‘remain’ to ‘understand’), so that together they form a Proverb (v4), a synthetic parallelism, where the 2nd line adds to the thought of the 1st line, so that the full truth is revealed by combining the 2 lines. v12 concludes Part 1 of the answer to the Riddle (v7-12), which points out all their money will not help them or give them any advantage in the face of death, the great equaliser: “Nevertheless man, though in honour (wealth), does not remain (alive); He is like the beasts that perish.” ....

The GOSPEL SHOES: "having shod your feet with the (shoes of) preparation (readiness) of the Gospel of Peace (another aspect of God's Word)” (v15). To be ready for battle, you need the right shoes to give you a firm footing, so you can stand your ground on God's Word and the completed victory of Christ. These are the shoes of the Gospel, which declares His finished work over sin and every enemy, thereby bringing us into peace with God (peace comes after victory). We put on the Shoes by knowing and embracing the Good News that He has won the victory and we stand firm in that truth, ready for action. We standing in His victory, rather than trying to get the victory. Then v16 says: “above (covering) all, taking (up) the SHIELD of (the) FAITH, with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts (arrows) of the wicked one (God’s Word is powerful).” The Shield that protects us is not our faith, but God's Word (the Faith), we need to trust in God’s Word rather than our faith, but it is by faith that we take up the Shield and put it in front of us. The Word must not just wrapped around our heart, but lifted up in front of us, where it can cover every area of our life, by confessing His Word and thanking God for His promises and who He is to us (Heb 13:5-6). The roman shield was like a door covering the whole body, made of 6 layers of animal hide, anointed with oil (the Spirit) and drenched with water (Eph 5:26), able to protect even against fiery arrows filled with combustible liquid designed to explode on impact. Likewise, the anointed Word of God is empowered to protect us, even against the worst weapons of the enemy. These fiery arrows are words (thoughts) set on fire by hell (Jam 3:6), with spiritual power to penetrate our soul and set it on fire (with bitterness, anger, fear, discouragement etc) if our Shield is not up. But if we activate our Shield, by declaring: "The Lord is my Strength, Stronghold, Light, Peace, Provider Shield, Victory..." then the fiery darts will not be able to penetrate our heart and mind and emotions. Derek concludes by giving a classic example of how to put up the Shield of Faith as demonstrated by Paul in Romans 8:28-39, where he says we must not be passive in the face of the things (attacks) of life, but we must declare God's truths (Christ's love for us and His finished work) in response to these things. he asks: "what shall we say to these things?" (v31), and then tells us what we should say (v31-39). In this way, we activate our Shield of God's Word, which quench the evil thoughts (words), sent from the enemy to hurt and destroy us.Politics Today Why have our politics become so toxic and divisive?Revelation TV2024-07-18 | In this week’s edition of Politics Today Simon Barrett is joined by Maureen Martin from the Society for the protection of Unborn Children and Dr Sarah Tun from Prayer for Parliament.
On Saturday 13th July, Tomas Matthew Crook a twenty year old loner attempted to assassinate Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump. Had he been successful this could have ignited another bloody civil war in America.
It was the toxic and divisive political rhetoric in demonising Trump and comparing him to a modern Hitler that created the political climate that radicalised his assassin. In Ancient Athens this was well reflected to the degree that an altar was built to "The Unkown God" in case they missed a god out and offended him or her. Paul finds himself in Athens and engages with the philosophers of the city. Many worship an unknown idea of "God" today. A "higher power" or "divine force". But God can be known! Regan King (Pastor, The Angel Church) walks us through Acts 17 and Paul's message revealing the Unknown God.FACE to FACE A Spiritual Calling with Pastor Sylvia WilliamsRevelation TV2024-07-16 | Sylvia Williams talks to Tim Vince from her wealth of experience in academia, journalism and church leadership. Grady is a Life Member of Mensa. This week they discussed Attempted Assassination on Donald Trump. US President Joe Biden led calls for a reset in political rhetoric in the US after Donald Trump survived an assassination attempt. Biden said it was "time to cool it down" after the shooting that left a spectator dead at the former president's rally in Pennsylvania. Biden said "There is no place in America for this kind of violence, for any violence ever, period. No exceptions, we can't allow this violence to be normalized. The political rhetoric in this country has gotten very heated. It's time to cool it down. We all have a responsibility to do that," he said. Evangelical commentator Dr Michael Brown wrote on his blog that "it really is a time for reflection" and that all people need to think carefully about their language. Are we contributing to this atmosphere of hatred and violence? He continued, "I do not minimize the depth of the political divide in our country today, nor is there an easy path forward toward national unity. Not by a country mile. "But all of us are responsible for the words we speak, for the posts we share, for the memes we create, for the environments we shape. And all of us would do well to look in the mirror and ask ourselves some honest questions: Am I fostering godly conviction or breeding vile hatred? Am I helping to produce courage and fortitude or do my words lead to hostility and disdain?"
Dr Grady discussed this and gave answers to many more Questions on various other Topics during the 1 Hour Live Question and Answers Programme.

One of the well known Scriptures which define Faith is from Hebrews 11:1 which states that “faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” The chapter then continues to list The Heroes of The Faith who ‘by faith’ achieved things seemingly impossible or unrealistic by Earthly standards.
Having faith is more than just knowledge or belief - it’s putting it into action. James backs this up in Chapter 2 verse 14 in The New Living Translation which says “My Christian brothers, what good does it do if you say you have faith but do not do things that prove you have faith?”

This revealed God’s power, leading to Him being known by the nations and Israel’s exaltation because of God’s manifest Presence with her (2Chr 32:22-23). “Psalm 48 - A Song (Schir, a joyful song, as after a great victory, Gen 31:27, Ex 15:1, Ps 33:3). A Psalm of the sons of Korah.” Ps 48 has many correspondences with other 2, especially 46, another Song of Zion (also 76,84,87,122). These events were a prophetic type of Christ’s future final victory at His 2nd Coming, when He will destroy antichrist’s armies, establish His Kingdom on earth, and reign over all nations from Jerusalem, where His Presence will be the greatest, with Israel as the exalted nation. The language of these Psalms points to these greater future events as the ultimate fulfilment. The 1st Section (v1-3a) is praise to God, the great Lord and King (46:2,7), who dwells in Zion, the holy City of God (46:4,5.7,11), and is the Source of her glory and beauty. v1:“Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised in the City of our God, in His holy Mountain.” As He is infinitely great in power, faithfulness, wisdom, love and honour (Ps 95:3, 145:3), He is to be greatly praised. If our praise is not great (abundant and consistent), it’s because we don’t consider Him great enough to deserve it. He is worthy of all our praise. His greatness was recently manifested in His deliverance of Zion, and will be manifested again at His Return in power and glory. He should be greatly praised in His holy dwelling places (which includes us). He should be praised in Jerusalem, for all He has done in and for her, and what He will do there, especially in His holy Mountain – Mount Zion, where God dwelt in His Temple, and where Christ died and rose again for our salvation, and from where He will reign in His Kingdom. v2-3a: “Beautiful in elevation (this speaks of God’s dwelling place, the sacred space of the Temple - height represents holiness = spiritual beauty), the joy of the whole earth, is Mount Zion on the sides of the north (of) the city of the Great King (Ps 47:2,7). God is in her Palaces.” The Temple was built on the mount overlooking the original city of David on higher ground directly to its north - Mount Moriah (2Chr 3:1), renamed Mount Zion), so the city expanded to the north in Solomon’s time. The reference to ‘the sides of the north’ connects the earthly Jerusalem with God’s heavenly City and Temple, Mount Zion, the New Jerusalem (Heb 12:22-24, Gal 4:26), the ultimate fulfilment of this description in v1-3a, for the location of God’s throne in the heavenly Mount is described in similar terms in Isaiah 14:13-14, thus portraying the earthly Zion as an image of the heavenly Zion. It is the joy of the whole earth, for it is the place of His Presence and in His Presence is fullness of joy (Ps 16:11), and it was here that Christ was sacrificed and rose again for the salvation of the whole world (on the peak of Mt.Zion), from where He ascended to Heaven (Acts 1), where the Holy Spirit was poured out at Pentecost (Acts 2), from where the Gospel went forth to the whole earth (Acts 1:8), to where Christ will return (Matt 23:37-39, Zech 14:4), and from where Christ will reign over the whole earth. This description will also be fulfilled in the Millennial Jerusalem, for the holy Temple, from where Christ will reign, will be on the summit on the north side of the very high Mount of the Lord, north of the city where people will live (Ezek 40-48). The description of Zion (Jerusalem) as God’s chosen holy Covenant City, applies to Zion at the time this was written, for God’s Presence in her was her protection (the theme of Ps 46). It also applies generally from David’s time on (Ps 132:13-14), but when Israel is out of fellowship, she loses her divine protection. Jesus quoted v2 in describing Jerusalem in His day as: “the City of the Great King” (Matt 5:35), but there will be a greater fulfilments in the Millennium, and in the heavenly eternal Zion, the joy of the whole earth throughout eternity, as the place where God dwells (v1,14 inclusio, Rev 21:1-2).....

The Breastplate of Righteousness (Isa 59:16) is necessary for guarding the heart. To enter into spiritual warfare, it is vital our heart is under the protection of God’s Righteousness (it is the Armour of God). It does not consist of our own righteousness, but the righteousness of Christ. In spiritual warfare, pride is fatal. Instead, we must submit to God and His righteousness, which He gives us by grace (Job 41:34, Luke 10:17-20, Jam 4:6-7), through the Great Exchange (2Cor 5:21). To put on His Breastplate of Righteousness so that it covers and protects our heart, we must submit to His righteousness (Rom 10:3, Phil 3:9). It is attached to the Belt, for it is God's Word which imparts the faith we need to trust in His gift of righteousness. It had 2 parts, a breast and back plate, which correspond to (1) the imputed righteousness of Christ, through which we were justified by faith (Rom 3:28,4:1-8, 5:1, 8:1, Gal 2:16), and (2) the imparted righteousness of Christ (His life and nature) through the Holy Spirit (Rom 5:5, 14:17, Gal 5:22-23, 1Cor 1:30). (1) Through FAITH in Christ and His finished work we are justified, declared forgiven and righteous in Christ. This protects the heart from satan’s main weapon – condemnation (Rev 12:10-11, Isa 54:17). (2) The LOVE of Christ filling our souls with His love (Rom 8:4) protects our hearts from evil thoughts. We see these 2 parts of the Breastplate in 1Thess 5:8: “putting on the breastplate of (1) FAITH and (2) LOVE.” We see these 2 kinds of righteousness in: Romans 1:17: “For in the Gospel the righteousness of God is revealed from (1) justifying faith to (2) living faith; as it is written: “The just (by faith) shall live by faith.”
