The Issey Miyake Studio and Issey Miyake Group shared the news that the late designer passed away on 5 August from liver cancer.
Renowned avant-garde fashion designer and innovator Issey Miyake has died in hospital in Tokyo aged 84. Miyake rose to prominence in the 1970s, with his work over the years defined by technology-driven designs, bold, colourful styles and origami-like pleats – the latter of which earned him the title ‘Prince of Pleats’.
The visionary designer founded the Miyake Design Studio in 1970 and went on to create a range of fashion lines as well fragrances. Miyake’s designs have been worn by the likes of Miles Davis and Grace Jones and he was responsible for Apple founder Steve Jobs’ signature turtleneck sweaters. Although he officially retired from fashion in 1997 he continued to oversee the creative direction of his company’s fashion lines.
Known for his practicality, Miyake is said to have wanted to become either a dancer or an athlete before reading his sister's fashion magazines inspired him to change direction - with those original interests believed to be behind the freedom of movement his clothing permits.
Miyake was born in Hiroshima and was seven years old when the atomic bomb was dropped on the city while he was in a classroom. He was reluctant to speak of the event in later life. In 2009, writing in the New York Times as part of a campaign to get then-U.S. President Barack Obama to visit the city, he said he did not want to be labelled as "the designer who survived" the bomb.
The statement issued by the Issey Miyake Studio and Issey Miyake Group stated that, as per Miyake’s wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service.
Rest in peace, Issey.

Judith Durham, Australia’s folk music icon who achieved global fame as the lead singer of The Seekers, has died. She was 79.
Durham died in Alfred Hospital in Melbourne on Friday night after suffering complications from a long-standing lung disease, Universal Music Australia and Musicoast said in a statement on Saturday.
She made her first recording at 19 and rose to fame after joining The Seekers in 1963. The group of four became the first Australian band to achieve major chart and sales success in the U.K. and the United States, eventually selling 50 million records.
International hits included "The Carnival is Over," "I’ll Never Find Another You," "A World of Our Own" and "Georgy Girl."
Durham embarked on a solo career in 1968 but recorded with The Seekers again in the 1990s.
"This is a sad day for Judith’s family, her fellow Seekers, the staff of Musicoast, the music industry and fans worldwide, and all of us who have been part of Judith’s life for so long," said The Seekers’ management team member Graham Simpson.
Her bandmates in The Seekers — Keith Potger, Bruce Woodley and Athol Guy — said their lives had been changed forever by losing "our treasured lifelong friend and shining star".
"Her struggle was intense and heroic, never complaining of her destiny and fully accepting its conclusion. Her magnificent musical legacy Keith, Bruce and I are so blessed to share," they said.
Tributes flowed for the beloved singer, with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese describing Durham as "a national treasure and an Australian icon."
In her home state Victoria, Premier Dan Andrews said Durham had conquered the music world both in Australia and overseas.
"With her unique voice and stage presence leading The Seekers, the band became one of Australia’s biggest chart toppers," he said.
Rest in peace, Judith.

Bill Russell, one of basketball's legendary players, has died at age 88. The announcement was posted on his verified Twitter account.
"It is with a very heavy heart we would like to pass along to all of Bill's friends, fans, & followers," the statement reads. "Bill Russell, the most prolific winner in American sports history, passed away peacefully today at age 88, with his wife, Jeannine, by his side. Arrangements for his memorial service will be announced soon.
"Bill's two state championships in high school offered a glimmer of the incomparable run of pure team accomplishment to come: twice an NCAA champion; captain of a gold-medal-winning US Olympic team; 11 times an NBA champion; and at the helm for two NBA championships as the first black head coach of any North American professional sports team.
Russell's life was long — at times profound, and at times messy.
He had a falling out with longtime friend and fierce competitor Wilt Chamberlain — Russell didn't like the word rival to describe their on-court relationship. Later in life they reconciled. Russell also reconciled his feelings, somewhat, about the city of Boston.
Through it all, there was one constant for Russell: laughter.
A laugh for the ages. As recognizable a part of Bill Russell as the image of him in his number six Celtics jersey, rising above the court to grab a rebound or swat an opponent's shot. Red Auerbach was quoted as saying one of the only things that could make him stop coaching was Bill Russell's laugh.
But the high-pitch cackle was beloved by many more. And it bore the mark of another Katie Russell lesson. His mother told him never hold back. On anything.
Russell became the first Black player to be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1975, and in 1980 he was voted Greatest Player in the History of the NBA by the Professional Basketball Writers Association of America. He was part of the 75th Anniversary Team announced by the NBA in October 2021.
In 2013, Boston honored Russell with a statue at City Hall Plaza.
Rest in peace, Bill.

A cause of death has not been revealed.
Nolan earned recognition after starring in season 15 of America's Got Talent in 2020. He soared through to the quarterfinals where he delivered an emotionally-charged performance of his original song, Send Me a Butterfly.
He had auditioned for the hit talent competition with a track called Lost, which he revealed was the first song he wrote after overcoming his substance abuse issues. Neal received a standing ovation from the audience and all four judges, who were Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Howie Mandell and Sofia Vergara.
During the audition, Neal opened up about the importance of Lost and explained to the judges: ‘The hook of this song is, “Lost for the last time”.
‘It’s about someone who thinks that they don’t deserve anything because of the things they’ve done. I hope that it connects with you all, that will be the real win for me.’

Following his death, Neal’s cousin Dylan revealed that he and the late singer had been living together four months before the pandemic began in 2020. Dylan said Neal was sober and enjoying focusing on his music with the two often jamming together.

Monty Norman, the British composer behind the iconic James Bond theme, has died. He was 94.
On Monday, a statement was posted on Norman’s official website that read: "It is with sadness we share the news that Monty Norman died on 11th July 2022 after a short illness."
Norman famously composed the score for "Dr. No," the 1962 Bond film that starred Sean Connery. His theme for James Bond, which was arranged by fellow Englishman John Barry, would go on to become the tune used in the entire 007 franchise.
Norman was born Monty Noserovitch to Jewish parents in the East End of London in 1928. Obtaining his first guitar at age 16, Norman went on to perform with big bands and in a variety double act with comedian Benny Hill. He later wrote songs for British rockers Cliff Richard and Tommy Steele, as well as composed for stage musicals, including "Make Me an Offer," "Expresso Bongo," "Songbook" and "Poppy."
Norman was hired by producer Albert "Cubby" Broccoli to compose a theme for the first James Bond film, "Dr. No."
He drew on a piece he had written for a proposed musical adaptation of V.S. Naipaul’s "A House for Mr. Biswas," shifting the key riff from sitar to electric guitar. The result – twangy, propulsive, menacing – has been used in all 25 Bond thrillers.
Producers hired Barry to rearrange the theme, and Barry was widely assumed to have written it – to Norman’s chagrin. Barry, who died in 2011 at age 77, went on to compose scores for almost a dozen Bond films, including "Goldfinger" and "You Only Live Twice."
Norman went to court to assert his authorship, suing The Sunday Times newspaper for libel over a 1997 article asserting the theme was composed by Barry. He won in 2001 and was awarded 30,000 pounds ($35,718) in damages.
Before his death, Norman reflected on the theme's lasting success.
Rest in peace, Monty.

Former Homestead and Purdue basketball standout, Caleb Swanigan, has died at the age of 25. The Allen County Coroner’s Office said he died of natural causes.
Swanigan was born in Indianapolis and went to Homestead High School in Fort Wayne. He won Indiana’s Mr. Basketball in 2015, the same year he helped lead Homestead basketball to their first ever state title.
Swanigan played two seasons at Purdue from 2015-17 before being drafted in the first round of the NBA Draft by the Portland Trailblazers.
“Our thoughts and prayers to Caleb Swanigan’s family and friends. The world lost a gentle soul last night,” the Purdue Men’s Basketball Twitter account posted on Tuesday morning.
Caleb Swanigan was just 13 years old when former Purdue football player Roosevelt Barnes, at the behest of Caleb’s older brother, took him under his wing, ultimately adopting him, and bringing him to live in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Barnes understood what it took to excel both on the field and off and hoped to instill that drive in young Caleb. Unlike his adopted father though football was not the game for Swanigan. No, his game was basketball. Despite being 300+ pounds there was something to his game. Something that Barnes saw that he believed could change Swanigan’s life.
You heard about the arrest, you saw the mugshot that showed the tremendous weight gain and you wished it wasn’t true. Unfortunately though, it was all true. Caleb Swanigan, the young man who fought so hard and sacrificed so much in order to find stability away from a life of drugs and overeating had found himself in the position that many had long feared was his destiny. With a father who weighed over 500 pounds, who used drugs, and had diabetes there must have been a dark shadow plaguing him his whole life. For a number of years he had outrun it. He’d risen above the challenges of his upbringing to become what most of us could only dream of. He was an NBA player, he was an All-American, he had his jersey retired at a major university. Sadly, it wasn’t enough.
Addiction has been the scourge of this country for many years. It’s taken many lives far too young with no end in sight. Invariably when these things happen questions come up about why someone would do this to themselves, what hurt were they trying to forget, what pain were they trying to numb. It’s apparent that in Caleb Swanigan’s life there was much to try and forget, much pain to numb, and a family history to try and outrun. History has shown us that even the fastest runners lose a step and even the best amongst us can struggle.
For Caleb Swanigan the race is over. News broke early this morning that he had passed away at age 25. Details are still emerging but initial reports show a death of natural causes. It’s tragic no matter the cause. His teammates from his time at Purdue began tweeting about it this morning. The young man who overcame so much and put it all out on the floor each and every night was gone.
Caleb Swanigan’s life was a great story with so many highs. Following his arrest I had hoped for Swanigan to do what he did best, to rebound once more. To see the next move and go up and grab it. That wasn’t to be. Now, the life that had all the hallmarks of an uplifting tale ends not with cheers but with tears.
Rest in peace, Caleb.

Sean Castens 17 Year Old Daughter Gwen DiesThe Lives of Famous People2022-06-14 | Bad news.
Rep. Sean Casten on Monday evening announced that his daughter, Gwen Casten, had died.
“This morning, Congressman Casten’s beloved daughter, Gwen, passed away. The Casten family requests privacy, and we will be issuing no further comment during this heartbreaking time,” Casten tweeted.
The cause of his daughter’s death was not immediately clear.
A statement from the Downers Grove Police Department said that officials responded to a call regarding “an unresponsive seventeen year old female” early Monday morning in the block that the Illinois Democrat lives in before “first responders determined that the subject was deceased,” according to the Chicago Tribune.
Shortly before Casten's congressional office announced his daughter's death, Casten's campaign asked all Illinois TV stations to immediately pull his campaign spots off the air until further notice.
Casten was among the House members who voted to pass legislation last week that would nationalize red flag laws.
Gwen Casten’s Twitter bio also indicates she was involved gun violence advocacy work as a March For Our Lives co-director for their Illinois chapter.
She had recently been featured in a campaign ad for the lawmaker as he seeks a third term in Congress.
Rest in peace, Gwen.

Philip Baker Hall, the gravelly-voiced character actor who radiated equal amounts of quiet authority, unshakable confidence and effortless unflappability onscreen for five decades, died on Sunday at his home in Glendale, Calif. He was 90.
The cause was complications of emphysema, his daughter Anna Ruth Hall said.
When Mr. Hall portrayed powerful men, audiences believed. He was Richard M. Nixon reflecting on his sins in Robert Altman’s fictional “Secret Honor”. Roger Ebert’s rave review of the film in The Chicago Sun-Times described Mr. Hall’s performance as one of “such savage intensity, such passion, such venom, such scandal, that we cannot turn away.”
When Mr. Hall played a character’s fierce conviction for laughs, audiences remembered. In a 1991 episode of “Seinfeld,” he was Lieutenant Bookman, a detective working for the New York Public Library pursuing two decades in overdue fines for a copy of Henry Miller’s “Tropic of Cancer.”
Bookman had been imagined as “a blunt, hard-spoken guy,” like a Raymond Chandler detective, Mr. Hall recalled decades later in an interview with Rolling Stone, and he knew during the audition that he’d nailed it. It was, in fact, “one of the last roles I ever auditioned for, simply because so many doors opened up” afterward.
In a career of more than 80 films and 200 television appearances, he was often cast as men accustomed to being listened to — doctors, lawyers, generals, detectives, cabinet members, priests and way too many judges. “I didn’t want to do any more of them,” he told The Washington Post in 2017, complaining that the roles were sedentary. “You never get to walk around.”
When a premise was outrageous or a character’s behavior over-the-top, filmmakers called Mr. Hall. He was in three of Paul Thomas Anderson’s feature films, including Magnolia — famous for a torrential rainstorm of frogs — as a dying, mentally unraveling game-show host. In “Boogie Nights”, he played a budget-conscious porn-theater magnate. And he was the star of “Hard Eight”, as a preternaturally calm retired professional gambler who is sincerely trying to help an aimless younger man.
Mr. Hall played Aristotle Onassis in the TV movie “Jackie Bouvier Kennedy Onassis”; Don Hewitt, the “60 Minutes” producer, in “The Insider”; and the C.I.A. director Stansfield Turner in “Argo”. But he never sought roles as celebrated men. He had learned the character types that summoned the best of his gifts — “highly stressed older men,” he said in the Washington Post interview, “who are at the limit of their tolerance for suffering and stress and pain.”
Mr. Hall had become a Hollywood hot property in his late 60s.
Philip Baker Hall was born on September 10, 1931, in Toledo, Ohio, the son of William Alexander Hall, a factory worker, and Berdene (McDonald) Hall. He served in the Army, working as a translator in Germany, and attended the University of Toledo. He wanted to be an actor — a college yearbook photo shows him in “The Heiress” — but decided to be practical and pursue teaching. After teaching high school during graduate school, he changed his mind.
Although he was almost 40 when he made his first film (an uncredited role in Michelangelo Antonioni’s “Zabriskie Point”) and 44 when he did his first television role (a lawyer in a network movie), he worked in theater much earlier. Even “Secret Honor,” the one-man Nixon film, began as a stage script, first performed at the Provincetown Playhouse in Manhattan.
In 1973, Mr. Hall married Dianne Lewis. They divorced in 1976, and he married Holly Wolfle in 1981. In addition to his daughter Anna, from his second marriage, he is survived by his wife; another daughter from that marriage, Adella Violet Hall; two daughters from his marriage to Ms. Lewis, Trisha Infante and Darcy Hall; a brother, Lee Hall; and four grandchildren.
Rest in peace, Philip.

Britney Spears has married her longtime partner Sam Asghari at a Southern California ceremony that came months after the pop superstar won her freedom from a court conservatorship.
Asghari's representative Brandon Cohen confirmed the couple's nuptials. He said: "I am very ecstatic this day has come, and they are married. I know he wanted this for so long. He is so caring and supportive every step of the way."
The wedding happened nine months after the pair were engaged and nearly seven months after Spears' conservatorship ended. While seeking an end to the court case that controlled many aspects of her life, Spears expressed her desire to marry Asghari and have children.
Spears got pregnant earlier this year, but experienced a miscarriage in March.
The couple met on the set of the "Slumber Party" music video in 2016.
The wedding day was not without unexpected drama — Spears' first husband was arrested after attempting to crash their wedding.
Ventura County Sheriff's Capt. Cameron Henderson said officers responded to a trespassing call after 2 p.m. Thursday. He says the pop singer's first husband, Jason Alexander, was detained at the site of the ceremony.
Henderson says Alexander was arrested after officers noticed he had a warrant for his arrest in another county.
Alexander went on his Instagram live when he approached the event security. In what appeared to be a mostly empty but decorated room, he told them Spears invited him.
"She's my first wife, my only wife," said Alexander, who was briefly married to Spears — his childhood friend — in 2014. Their marriage lasted only 55 hours.
Spears was previously married to Kevin Federline, with whom she shares two sons, ages 14 and 15.
We wish happiness to the newlyweds.

A South African boxer who became disoriented during a fight and walked away from his opponent toward an empty corner of the ring while throwing punches has died of a brain injury.
Boxing South Africa said Wednesday that lightweight Simiso Buthelezi died on Tuesday night following the bout on Sunday in the eastern city of Durban. He had been in an induced coma.
Buthelezi collapsed after the fight, which was stopped in the 10th and final round by the referee when Buthelezi became disoriented. He died in the hospital after the brain injury caused internal bleeding, Boxing South Africa said. His age was not released.
Buthelezi's fight against Siphesihle Mntungwa was shown on national television in South Africa.
Buthelezi had just knocked Mntungwa through the ropes. The referee separated the fighters and Buthelezi took a few steps back while Mntungwa got back on his feet. But when the two were called to box again, Buthelezi turned to his right and walked away from his opponent toward the corner while throwing a number of punches in what looked like a shadowboxing session. He slumped against the ropes in the corner and the referee stopped the fight.
Boxing South Africa said it will conduct an independent medical review of the incident.
Rest in peace, Simiso.

The group on Sunday announced the death of Such, the New Jersey band's bassist from 1983 to 1994. No details on when or how Such died were immediately available. A publicist for singer-songwriter Jon Bon Jovi didn't immediately respond to messages.
"He was an original," Bon Jovi wrote in a post on Twitter. "As a founding member of Bon Jovi, Alec was integral to the formation of the band."
Bon Jovi credited Such for bringing the band together, noting that he was a childhood friend of drummer Tico Torres and brought guitarist and songwriter Richie Sambora to see the band perform. Such had played with Sambora in a band called Message.
The Yonkers, New York-born Such was a veteran figure in the thriving New Jersey music scene that helped spawn Bon Jovi. As manager of the Hunka Bunka Ballroom in Sayreville, New Jersey, Such booked Jon Bon Jovi & The Wild Ones before joining the singer-songwriter's band. He played with Bon Jovi through the group's heyday in the 1980s.
Such departed the band in 1994, when he was replaced by bassist Hugh McDonald. He later rejoined the band for its induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2018.
At the induction ceremony, Such spoke fondly of his time with his band mates, saying, "(I) love them to death. I always will."
"When Jon Bon Jovi called me up and asked me to be in his band many years ago, I soon realized how serious he was and he had a vision that he wanted to bring us to. And I'm only too happy to have been a part of that vision," he said in his speech.
Rest in peace, Alec.

Ann Turner Cook, whose cherubic baby face was known the world over as the original Gerber baby, has died. She was 95.
Gerber announced Cook’s passing in an Instagram post on Friday.
Cook was 5 months old when a neighbor, artist Dorothy Hope Smith, drew a charcoal sketch of her that was later submitted for a contest Gerber was holding for a national marketing campaign for baby food.
The image was a hit, so much so that it became the company’s trademark in 1931 and has been used in all packaging and advertising since.
For decades, though, the identity of the baby was kept secret, spurring rumors about who it was with guesses including Humphrey Bogart and Elizabeth Taylor.
In the late 1970s, it was revealed to be Cook, who grew up to be an English teacher in Tampa, Florida, and later a mystery novelist.
Her family says she lived a life devoted to children and that’s what she would want people to remember.
"You know, as a mother, as a grandmother, and as a teacher for 27 years, I mean, that was how she wanted to be remembered."
Rest in peace, Ann.

The Hollywood Reporter confirmed on Thursday that actor Brad Johnson died in February due to complications from COVID-19. He was best known to many for his role in Steven Spielberg’s 1989 fantasy-drama Always, in which he and Richard Dreyfuss both vie for the heart of Holly Hunter.
Johnson worked consistently in television and cable movies throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, and was the co-lead in the Left Behind series. He was 62 years old.
The Arizona-born Johnson was raised on a cattle ranch, and quit business school just shy of his degree to accept a rodeo scholarship at the College of Southern Idaho. He worked on the rodeo circuit full time, but injured his knee in 1986.
Then found work as a model, representing Calvin Klein, Busch beer, and, yes, Marlboro cigarettes.
“The Marlboro Man was a fixture in American culture. For the longest time he was on the same level as 007,” Johnson reflected about his position in tar-stained American folklore for MEL Magazine in 2019. He confessed, however, that he never was a smoker.
Always was Johnson’s first substantial acting gig, and while it didn’t catapult him to superstardom, he was rarely without work, appearing in films like The Philadelphia Experiment II and on episodes of the Outer Limit reboot. He starred opposite Danny Glover and Willem Dafoe in John Milius’s Flight of the Intruder in 1991, and was Daphne Zuniga’s love interest Dr. Dominick O’Malley on the mid-‘90s nighttime soap Melrose Place.
In the late 1990s he led the syndicated action series Soldier of Fortune, Inc. the first Simpson/Bruckheimer production for television. Its second and final season co-starred Dennis Rodman.
In 2000, Johnson appeared with Kirk Cameron as co-lead in Left Behind: The Movie, which went from a direct-to-video release to a theatrical run. The adventure-drama series was based on Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins's end-of-days novels targeted to the Christian market. Though not the breakout hit that some faith-based films were that followed it, it was still groundbreaking, and had enough for a legacy for reboots and spin-offs.
“Brad greatly enjoyed improving and enhancing land, in a way that maintained and respected its natural beauty. He always felt most at home outdoors, and his passion for the land made that evident. As much as he loved cowboying, hunting and land, Brad loved nothing more than his family,” his family said in a statement.
The actor is survived by his wife Laurie, and their eight children.
Rest in peace, Brad.

The white vehicle then lost control and hit a freeway pier beam, killing the man and woman inside, the release said. The second vehicle was also occupied by a man and woman, who were not injured.
Minnesota Vikings cornerback Jeff Gladney is seen in action against Tennessee Titans wide receiver Corey Davis in the first quarter of an NFL game on Sunday, September 27, 2020, in Minneapolis.
Gladney was entering the third season of his NFL career, after playing college football at Texas Christian University. The Minnesota Vikings drafted him as a first-round pick in 2020, but the team released him ahead of the 2021 season after he was indicted on charges of felony assault, according to the NFL's website.
Gladney was found not guilty in the incident, and the Cardinals signed him to a two-year contract in March 2022. He had recently been training with the team during the NFL's organized team practices.
The Vikings also released a statement, saying they were saddened by Gladney's death.
Rest in peace, Jeff. _______________________ Don’t miss next videos: subscribe and press the little bell ((🔔)) to get notifications!American Graffiti Actor Bo Hopkins Passes Away - Cause Of Death - Crying 😭The Lives of Famous People2022-05-29 | Bad news.

Andrew Fletcher, keyboardist and founding member of British electronic band Depeche Mode, has died aged 60. A statement issued by the band on social media said: “We are shocked and filled with overwhelming sadness with the untimely passing of our dear friend, family member, and bandmate Andy ‘Fletch’ Fletcher.”
Formed in Basildon in the late 1970s, the band has had 17 Top 10 albums in the UK, and international chart success with songs including Enjoy The Silence, Personal Jesus and Just Can’t Get Enough.
Fletcher was born in 1961 in Nottingham, and moved to Basildon where he formed the band Composition Of Sound in the late 1970s alongside Martin Gore and Vince Clarke. With the recruitment of singer Dave Gahan they changed their name to Depeche Mode, and the quartet went on to enjoy a spree of early 80s chart hits.
With the departure of Clarke, who went on to form Yazoo and then Erasure, Gore became chief songwriter, and, with the addition of Alan Wilder, the band’s sound took a darker, more gothic turn. They had huge international success in the late 80s and early 90s.
Fletcher leaves behind a wife, Grainne, to whom he was married for almost 30 years, and two children, Megan and Joe.
He played on all of Depeche Mode’s studio albums, including Songs Of Faith And Devotion in 1993 and Ultra in 1997, which both reached No 1 in the album chart in the UK.
In the 1989 documentary 101 by director D A Pennebaker, which was based around the 101st date of the band’s Music For The Masses tour, Fletcher was even more understating about his role, saying “Martin’s the songwriter, Alan’s the good musician, Dave’s the vocalist, and I bum around.”
Wilder quit in 1995, leaving the group as a three-piece. The band were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2020.
Rest in peace, Andrew.

Legendary singer, guitarist, and entertainer Thom Bresh’s death was announced on May 23, 2022. He died at the age of 74 and probably his cause of death was related to cancer.
There are many things Thom Bresh will be remembered for, because he did so many remarkable things in his life. He was a Grammy-nominated recording artist and performer, a stuntman, an actor, a comedian, a television show host, and an engineer and producer. But perhaps what Thom Bresh is best known for in the musical community is being one of the practitioners of the thumb-style guitar that he picked up from his father, Country Music Hall of Famer Merle Travis, and carried into the future.
Born February 23rd, 1948 in Hollywood, California, Thom Bresh was birthed right into showbiz, acting in films at a young age, and he began recording his own music shortly thereafter. One of his first major jobs was working as a stuntman at the Corrigan Movie Ranch. In 1963, he joined the rock and roll band The Crescents, which enjoyed some moderate success.
In the early 70s is when Thom Bresh decided to start following in his famous father’s footsteps, and started performing country music, recording for the labels Kapp and Farr. In 1976 he had a Top 10 hit with the song “Homemade Love,” which earned him a nomination for the Academy of Country Music’s Top New Male Vocalist. Bresh later went on to record a couple of records for ABC with the legendary Jimmy Bowen producing.
But Bresh struggled to get any traction in his music career, though it was through a cover of the novelty song “Smoke! Smoke! Smoke! (That Cigarette)” written by his father with Tex Williams that he would find his calling in entertainment. In Bresh’s version of the song, he featured 13 different impersonations. This allowed Bresh to transition into the acting/hosting/comedian world.
Thom Bresh became a regular on The Merv Griffin Show and Dinah!, and also appeared on Barbara Mandrell’s variety show. Bresh appeared on his own shows as well, including one called Nashville Swing, and another with Lane Brody called The Thom & Lane Show. His skill in television also allowed him to work on video projects for folks like George Jones, Tanya Tucker, Jerry Reed, Lyle Lovett, and Brooks & Dunn.
But to many in the country music community and beyond, Thom Bresh was always the keeper of the thumb-style method of guitar playing that his father had perfected, and that Thom put his own spin on. That is what allowed him to sit right beside some of the greatest guitarists in country music history such as Chet Atkins, Jerry Reed, Tommy Emmanuel, and of course, Merle Travis, and hold his own.
Guitarist Chris Scruggs said at his passing, “He played with such command and authority, yet there was something so extremely relaxed, casual, and almost lazy (I use this word in the most complimentary of ways) about the way he grinned at the crowd and hit those guitar strings. It flowed out of him as naturally as taking a breath, as natural as speaking. But in his calm delivery was so much power. His stage presence filled the stage like a mighty oak tree.”
Later in life, Bresh was well-respected as a guitar teacher, and was also passionate about photography.
Thom Bresh had been diagnosed with late stage esophagus cancer in 2021. He died on May 23rd at the age of 74.
Rest in peace, Thom.

Actor and comedian Gilbert Gottfried, whose shrill voice caught the attention of his early stand-up audiences and moviegoers, has died at the age of 67.
Gottfried, who had been living in South Florida for the past few years, made a name for himself with his piercing voice and often crude humor.
Gottfried had been scheduled to perform at the Palm Beach Kennel Club's Paddock Restaurant on May 13.
The Brooklyn-born stand-up comedian had been a fixture of the New York comedy club scene in the 1970s, but his chance to catapult into the mainstream came in 1980, when he joined the cast of NBC's "Saturday Night Live" for its sixth season. Instead, Gottfried's impressions and lone recurring character never took off, and he was fired after just one season.
In addition to his stand-up acts, Gottfried had several bit parts in popular movies like "Beverly Hills Cop II," "Problem Child" and its sequel. He also provided the voice of Iago the wise-cracking parrot in Disney's 1992 animated film "Aladdin."
Gottfried also served as the host of "USA Up All Night," which featured mostly low-budget movies bookended by Gottfried's comedy skits and sardonic comments. The show aired on the USA Network from 1989 to 1998.
His humor had been the subject of controversy throughout the years, notably upsetting a national television audience at the 1991 Primetime Emmy Awards with a barrage of masturbation jokes aimed at Paul Reubens (better known as Pee-Wee Herman), who had been arrested a month earlier on an indecent exposure charge at an adult movie theater in Florida. Fox, which televised that year's Emmy Awards, censored the broadcast for West Coast audiences and issued a statement calling Gottfried's jokes "irresponsible and insulting."
Gottfried also knew how to turn national tragedies into punchlines, becoming one of the first comedians to joke about the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, just three weeks removed from the deadliest act of terrorism in human history.
During the roast of Playboy magazine founder Hugh Hefner at the New York Friars Club in 2001, Gottfried's joke was met with boos and ridicule from the audience. Gottfried had to win them back with a raunchy rendition of the Aristocrats joke.
His family described Gottfried as the "most iconic voice in comedy" and said he was a "wonderful husband, brother, friend and father to his two young children."
Rest in peace, Gottfried.

Shane Warne, who was considered to be the greatest bowler in cricket history and helped Australia win the World Cup in 1999, has died. He was 52.
Fox Sports television, which employed Warne as a commentator, quoted a family statement early Saturday as saying he died of a suspected heart attack in Koh Samui, Thailand.
“Shane was found unresponsive in his villa and despite the best efforts of medical staff, he could not be revived,” the statement said. “The family requests privacy at this time and will provide further details in due course.”
Police in Thailand said Warne’s body was transferred to Ko Samui Hospital for an autopsy. Police added they did not find any wounds on Warne’s body.
Known as “Warnie,” Warne took 708 test wickets in 145 matches for Australia from 1992-2007, second only to Sri Lanka great Muttiah Muralitharan’s 800 test wickets from 133 matches.
Warne was also part of five Ashes-winning teams against England during his career.
Born in the outer Melbourne suburb of Upper Ferntree Gully, Warne first played representative cricket when he was granted a scholarship to Mentone Grammar, representing the University of Melbourne Club in the Victoria Cricket Association under-16 Dowling Shield competition.
He then joined the St. Kilda Cricket Club, near his home suburb of Black Rock. After a stint in Australian rules football at the St. Kilda under-19 team in 1988, where he made the reserve team and almost turned pro, Warne went to train at the Australia Cricket Academy in Adelaide.
Shane made his test debut at the Sydney Cricket Ground in 1992 and rose to become a key figure across all formats in one of the greatest sustained periods of dominance by any team in world cricket.
Warne's death came only a few hours after he expressed his sadness and condolences following the passing of another Australian cricketer. Former wicketkeeper Rodney Marsh died Friday from a heart attack.
Rest in peace, Shane.

Glenn Wheatley, the former musician who earned a place in the ARIA Hall of Fame with The Masters Apprentices before pivoting into artist management, whereupon he guided some of Australia’s most successful recording artists, including John Farnham, Little River Band and Delta Goodrem, has died at the age of 74.
Wheatley engineered one of music's great comebacks, when he connected Farnham with "You're The Voice," a protest song written by Chris Thompson, Andy Qunta, Maggie Ryder and Keith Reid.
He presented it to Farnham, a ‘60s pop star who had replaced Glenn Shorrock in Little River Band before himself departing, and was, at the time, hunkered down in Bulleen, an unremarkable town in regional Victoria.
“I ended up mortgaging my house, putting everything on the line because no one else was going to pay for it, but I knew we had something,” Wheatley recounted in a 2020 interview for the Australian Music Vault.
That something was Whispering Jack, a collection that logged 25 weeks at No. 1 on the ARIA Albums Chart following its release in October 1986, and remains the highest-selling album by a homegrown artist in Australian chart history, shifting more than 1.7 million units. It was said that one-in-four Australian homes had a copy of the album. “You’re The Voice” gave Farnham his first No. 1 for 17 years, and it would impact charts around the globe.
Wheatley repeated the feat when he guided the early career of Delta Goodrem, who, like so many pop singers before her, had achieved cult status on the soap Neighbours. Goodrem’s debut album Innocent Eyes was a sales juggernaut, logging a then-record 29 weeks atop the ARIA Albums Chart, and winning ARIA Awards for highest-selling album in both 2003 and 2004.
Born in Brisbane, Queensland, the son of a truck driver, Wheatley got his break with the local blues-rock outfit Bay City Union, whose frontman Matt Taylor would later front breakout blues outfit Chain.
In the late 1960s, Wheatley co-founded The Masters Apprentices, whose output included the hit singles “Turn Up Your Radio,” “Because I Love You” and the 1971 album Choice Cuts, recorded at London’s iconic Abbey Road Studios. The Masters Apprentices would call it a day in 1972, after a whirlwind four-year span during which they would become one of the country’s leading rock bands. Their popularity was confirmed in 1998 with elevation into the ARIA Hall of Fame.
A serial entrepreneur, he established the Wheatley Organisation in 1975, founded Eon FM in 1981, was founding director of Triple M Network in 1989, and, in 2017, Wheatley’s Talentworks struck a joint venture with Sony Music to form Talentworks Parade.
If Wheatley tasted the trappings of fame as bass player with The Masters Apprentices, his profile would climb further as an artist manager. Wheatley became a household name in Australia, a rare achievement for a music industry professional.
Wheatley is survived by his wife Gaynor Martin and three children.
Rest in peace, Glenn. She also celebrated New Year's 2022 with her three kids, writing in a translated caption, "My reason to be."
Rest in peace, Cristina.
