HAUNTED Asylum POSSESESS Ghost Hunting App!? | (Raw Edit) Tommy Amongst The Tombstones 2023-05-01 | This episode is a full RAW edit addition of the investigation we did at Ashmore Estates. There will be no music, titles, and very few cutting throughout this video besides the very beginning of the episode. Hopefully you enjoy more of the RAW side of my investigations. This one was just way to all over the place to bring fourth a full length standard episode. From 1857 to 1869, the Coles County Poor Farm was located near the small town of Loxa, but in 1870, the county purchased land in Ashmore Township for a new farm, placing it alongside the Indianapolis & St. Louis Railroad. The first almshouse building located on the property housed both the poor and insane and soon fell into deplorable condition. It was unsafe and unsanitary and in 1911, it was condemned by the State Board of Charities. Many of the residents died during the first almshouse's years of operations and were buried in a graveyard on the north side of the property. A new almshouse was built in 1916 and operated for many years, bringing hope to the destitute and allowing many to work for their bed and board, farming and caring for the livestock on the county land. Ashmore Estates, as it was called, was finally sold by the county in 1959 and it was opened as a private psychiatric facility. In October 1964, after only five years in operation, the psychiatric hospital closed down because of debt. The institution reopened in 1965, but changed its focus from a private facility to one that accepted patients from state mental institutions. The hospital became overcrowded and there was a need for more space and a new wing but money would not be appropriated for construction until 1977. Work was not completed until the 1980s. By that time, it was too late. Due to money shortages and problems with licenses, the Illinois Health Facility Planning Board closed the facility. By April 1986, the inmates had been transferred to other hospitals and Ashmore Estates closed its doors. Three years later, an attempt was made to open Ashmore Estates again as a mental health facility for teenage boys but the Ashmore Village Board denied the request due to fire safety issues and public opposition. In 1998, a Sullivan, Illinois man purchased the property to remodel into a home but continuous vandalism and break-ins forced him to abandon the plan. Finally, in 2006, the former asylum was purchased by a private owner but unfortunately, tornado damage and other setbacks forced the sale of the building to a new owner, who has also opened it up for paranormal investigations. … AND THE HAUNTINGSAfter it was first abandoned in 1987, Ashmore Estates became a local curiosity and a favorite place for area teenagers to break into and vandalize. Rumors spread that the building was haunted and many wandered inside in hopes of encountering a ghost. Some of the confusion about the ghost stories came from a fictional story that was written about the old building and the ghost of a girl who died in a fire at the almshouse. Unfortunately, many have come to believe the story is true. And while this was only a fictional ghost story... there are many who claimed that the old building really IS haunted!There have been a variety of paranormal events reported at the former almshouse and asylum, from apparitions to phantom footsteps and unexplainable sounds. For this reason, visitors have come to believe that many of the former inmates of the place have never actually left. Mysterious MURDER At Michigans MOST HAUNTED Hotel | Who Was She? Tommy Amongst The Tombstones 2023-04-07 | Arthur Aylesworth and his brother first visited the Lakeside Inn Resort on a family camping trip when they were young boys. In 1901, they persuaded their parents to buy the inn, which Arthur eventually inherited. Arthur operated the hotel for many years. During its heyday, there was gambling off the lobby, and boatloads of alcohol were consumed on the premises during Prohibition. Supposedly, bootleggers’ vessels from Canada beached in front of the hotel, and guests waded into the lake to help unload the cases of whiskey. It is alleged that Al Capone visited the place to relax. Arthur shot and wounded his second wife. He insisted it was an accident. Sentiment in Lakeside ran contrary, but both Mrs. Aylesworth and the marriage survived. In his later years, Arthur became a lonely figure watching a tiny television set in the lobby until sleep finally numbed his mind. At about 10:00 p.m. each evening, the handyman who lived in an outbuilding behind the inn was awakened by the ghost of Virginia Harned-Aylesworth, urging him to go inside and awaken Mr. Aylesworth and tell him it was time to undress and go to bed. Through subsequent decades, many guests have detected the presence of the ghost of Mrs. Aylesworth—especially in or near Room 30. There are also reports of a male ghost—presumably Mr. Aylesworth. In an interesting aside to the ghost story, Aylesworth eventually lost the inn to foreclosure by the Niles Bank. He died in the University Hospital at Ann Arbor, where no one knew his illustrious background. His cadaver was almost used for experimentation by medical students. A doctor from the hospital mentioned, during a phone conversation with the township lawyer of Lakeside, that one of their citizens had died at the hospital. When people from Lakeside realized what had happened, several men went to Ann Arbor to claim the body which was then buried in a plot Aylesworth had purchased at the Lakeside Cemetery. His body may have been buried but many believe the coffin couldn’t contain Arthur’s spirit. All indications suggest Mrs. Aylesworth and Arthur are harmless ghosts, pleased to continue residing in their inn. (Paranormal Investigation) Tommy Amongst The Tombstones 2022-12-19 | The Randolph County Infirmary was built in 1899 to serve the poor and indigent of the region, and it was not alone. During the first half of the twentieth century, the poor farm – or asylum or infirmary, as they were often called – were a fixture in every county in the state. They offered shelter to those unable to provide for themselves. Residents included the mentally and physically disabled, those with mental illnesses, unwed mothers, the aged, and orphaned children, along with whole families too poor to live independently. The county home was the original homeless shelter, foster home, mental institution, and rehabilitation facility. They were owned and managed by each county, which usually built a large brick structure to serve the purpose. With the arrival of the Great Depression in the 1930s, the federal government stepped in and began to fill the needs once met by the county homes. The asylums soon emptied, became neglected, and many were destroyed. The site where the infirmary outside Winchester still stands has a history that dates back to before the building was constructed. In the 1800s, it belonged to a local farmer, who often house people who were unable to live alone in exchange for money from the state. In 1851, an infirmary was built on the grounds but burned to the ground two years later. A second followed, but was closed down because living conditions were so unsanitary. Finally, in 1899, the stately building that exists today was opened, housing orphans, the destitute, the sick, and the insane. Unlike most of the county asylums, it did not close in the 1930s. It struggled for decades and when it did close down, five people were still living within its crumbling walls.Death frequently came calling during the infirmary’s years of operations. A cemetery is located on the site – which contains at least 50 unmarked graves – and records give an accounting of deaths from tuberculosis, accidents, old age, and suicide. A Ghost Story From Indianas Most Haunted Place Tommy Amongst The Tombstones 2022-11-21 | INDIANA'S MOST HAUNTED | WHISPERS ESTATE | The Story of Rachael Gibbons This is a short documentary about the life and paranormal occurrences of Rachael Gibbons who once lived at the infamous Whispers Estate.Whispers Estate was built in 1894 (earliest discovered records). In 1899 (or 1901, depending on which source you reference), Dr John and Jessie Gibbons purchased the house from the original owners, Dr George and Sarah White. Dr John and Jessie Gibbons reportedly adopted abandoned/orphaned children. One of these children, a 10-year old girl named Rachael, started a fire in the front parlor, being badly burned, and died 2 days later in one of the upstairs bedrooms. But, you can still hear, and sometimes see, her running around the house today. A 10-month infant, Elizabeth, died in the master bedroom of unknown causes, but there’s still the scent of baby powder, and you can sometimes still hear her cries. Jessie died in that same bedroom after a bout with double-pneumonia. Guests sleeping in that room often awake to labored breathing and coughing. Some even report feeling as if someone is sitting on their chest. The most common paranormal activity in this room is the closet doorknob will frequently jiggle for a few moments, stop suddenly, and the closet door will pop open. The maximum reported count for repeatable occurrences is 5 within a couple minutes. this of course required persons in the room to close the door each time. Dr Gibbons was a prominent doctor in town, having his office in the 1st floor rooms in the house. Given the time period and medical field, it is likely many patients died there during his practice of ~26 years. Stories of subsequent owners/occupants suggest others have encountered their own demise, such as a gentlemen in the 50s/60s that died in the upstairs bathroom, a young boy that died from falling down the front staircase (recently spoke with the relatives of this little boy; got name and keywords), and more. In 2006, The previous owner bought the house after being vacant for a few years. During its restoration, strange activity started to occur. Activity in the house continued, and even increased, subsequently earning the name ‘Whispers Estate’ after guests repeatedly reported hearing disembodied voices whispering in their ears. There are supposedly 4 graves in the backyard, not including, what psychics have called, a pit-grave which they say contain amputated limbs, internal organs, aborted fetuses, etc… There is reportedly a portal/vortex which runs up through the house from the front parlor into the 3rd floor room/attic. the room in the attic is said to be the heart of the house. Guests that are brave enough to sleep in this 3rd floor room report horrible nightmares and sometimes hear something trying to get in the room via the door (door knob jiggling). Visitors have reported sighting a shadow, which is now called ‘Big Black’, an entity which psychics says ‘is not of this world’. While most commonly encountered in the doctor’s rooms, it has been seen throughout the house. EVP sessions have revealed many entities in the house at any given time, But you don’t always need recording equipment to hear these disembodied voices at Whispers Estate. Many young women have reported hearing Dr Gibbons whisper in their ears, as well sometimes grabbing/gropping them. Guests claim to see the beds/couches visible shake, while still others sleeping on beds and couches have reported having them shake violently….. Investigators often do ’rounds’ throughout the house at different times throughout a night.
