This is largely inspired by some works by Chloe (ChloeeChaan), though is also produced for separate, non-disclosable reasons. More specifically, I was inspired by the game reanimations seen in her "DANGANRONPA [2nd GIG]" custom remix video, which itself is based on an audio-only custom remix that I was required to produce some long time ago.
So, here it is: Drummer Duel, from Rhythm Heaven (DS). There were many big hurdles along the way, from figuring out how to use the widescreen space, to redrawing many, many animation frames, to producing a modern design for an unused character. It doesn't help that even the used characters seem to be lacking official art. I also can't draw.
This is primarily intended as a custom remix resource. It is currently only available for a select group of custom remixers, and will not become public until the end of the year (at the earliest).
While I would love to go into more detail on the process behind production, I should save it for another time. Will there by more of these? Yes. That's a genuine "yes" from me. Not too many, but enough to suit the needs of... something I will not discuss at this current time, plus more if I want to.
Oh, and of course, if you read these descriptions, you probably know that I leave a link to my Twitter page at the end of all of them. If you ever gave it a click within the past two weeks, you would've known about this project already. I don't really like using the website much, but it's a nice way to show off work-in-progress content.
I may upload a new chiptune work soon. Probably at the usual time. A new arrangement is already prepared, except for, uh... the graphical element, which always sucks to make.

This one's probably my favourite of the Guitar Lessons. The final section is a bit repetitive, but at least it's fun. If anything, it's certainly a more interesting watch than the actual Space Soccer video I posted a couple weeks back.
Like that video, though, I got some help from Luxury again, this time helping with the cool soccerball illustration in the background. Obviously, I couldn't reuse the widget from the last one, and I struggled with drawing good motion lines here, so they helped out with all that.
Also, another huge thanks to Kievit for his work on the Guitar Lessons sound effects. This video demonstrates the sounds used by most of the lessons, which are comprised of singular notes forming chords instead of full strum samples. With all the preset chords available, they're definitely the most useful for custom remixes and such.
Fireworks... I've made good progress! You might even catch a bit of that in a very cool custom remix video releasing sometime soon. Not mine, though - I don't make custom remixes.

A good friend of mine (who goes by "Luxury") helped me with finishing up this old project I started a long time ago. It's from so long ago, in fact, that it pre-dates my Drummer Duel animation as the first one I ever... attempted to make.
If it wasn't obvious, I had clearly underestimated the difficulty of drawing the Space Kicker. Despite that, I had still managed to draw all of the assets (poorly) - it was my lack of experience with animation at the time that made this project too much for past me to complete. Eventually Luxury offered to help out with this sort of thing, so I brought up Space Soccer and sent over the files. The fine-tuning they provided added some much-needed polish to some of the frames, and the flame animation they drew looks fantastic. They also provided an alternative style for how the character's head looks, being more closely inspired by the original sprites, rather than whatever I was doing those many months ago. I... didn't end up using those, but whenever I choose to release these animations publicly, I will include their designs for that as an alternative version of sorts.
These descriptions always get quite long - I do apologise. I've had a lot of things on my mind over these past few... months now. A lot has happened, for better and for worse, but luckily things are mostly looking up, so hopefully I can get back to uploading more regularly, and finishing other work that I need to get on with. There's always so much to do.
Anyway, another big thanks to Luxury for dealing with my nonsense and helping out.

Another month, another animation. Still no Fireworks, but we'll get there at some point, hopefully. For now, here's one of my favourites. Sidetracked me for a variety of reasons, though I'd like to give special thanks to Kievit for showing me some cool stuff regarding SFX and unintentionally throwing me towards this instead of Rockers 2 as a result. We've made some pretty significant breakthroughs with the Guitar Lessons sounds, I think.
Rockers was a tricky one. Aside from the inherent difficulties in recreating a DS game, I was also creating a work with existing, well, "competition". A few takes on this game have already been made, so my focus was more on making my own interpretation unique while still functional. It's most visible in the character designs, but I'm also quite happy with the layout and proportions. Some nice, broad camera sweeps, though sometimes it feels like the text boxes are taking a bit too much space.
The last section is, of course, a reference to Built to Scale (DS). Felt like spicing it up a little (a bit of showing off can't hurt much). Apologies for mild(?) flashing lights though.

A little rough here and there, but that's expected of me. It's functional, and I'm happy with how this has all turned out.
Special thanks to Chrislo27, the lead developer and sole programmer of Polyrhythm Mania, for dealing with my nonsense throughout.
Admittedly, there are a couple things here and there that bother me about this, but it takes well over an hour to render just once, and I am writing this while my immune system undergoes rigorous training (i.e. COVID vaccine, lol). Still can't draw either, of course. Couldn't even be bothered to draw table legs in the background!
Unlike Drummer Duel, this only took exactly two weeks to complete (August 4th to August 18th), and with existing progress on Fireworks and Space Soccer, we could be seeing these uploads happening more frequently.
...as if, lol. In any case, the graphics and animations here won't be publicly available until the end of the year, just like with Drummer Duel. Any member of a certain private Discord server can request the assets, provided that I have actually prepared all of its parts properly by then. Otherwise, you can wait patiently for... the reason I am withholding these.
Oh, and I do want to express once again that this is a reanimation, not a functional, playable game. There's no "Love Lab Mania" at this current time, nor would I attempt to falsely claim such a thing. I looked into a variety of genres to eventually come up with this. Funk, Gospel, R&B, Disco, Soul... A wide range of genres I usually don't spend a lot of time focusing on. Space Dance kinda felt like it leaned towards these anyway - just with a heavier rock and pop feeling - so it was a good choice for trying this out. I also figured that something with more popular characters on the front might attract a few more clicks or whatnot, contrast to something more barren like Polyrhythm (hasn't stopped me working on more Polyrhythm-related things though!). Still bad at art though, even after the Drummer Duel thing, so there's only so much I can really do with that strategy.

Repetition is a good way to reduce the total size of music sequence data, but also works nicely for some potential rhythm game ideas, such as Sneaky Spirits. Later examples of similar concepts would end up doing much more with these repetitions though (see: Exhibition Match). To replicate this, I decided to make better use of the Frame Editor, for once. Arranging Bossa Nova into bossa nova feels like a silly thing to do, but it feels different enough, and I just wanted to try out writing in fast bossa nova style. A first time for everything.
No, I will not attempt a regular schedule at this moment in time.

Working Dough is a very straightforward and simple track, so adding more to it was a slight challenge, but one that seemed fun to take on.
The thought of uploading content semi-regularly is very daunting, but I'll try doing it by securing the niche of "Rhythm Heaven arrangements on YouTube", so I don't have to compete with the top-level custom remixers who've honed their craft over months/years.

My Twitter: twitter.com/GENERIC_wavThats Paradise - ♪ Piano Arrange ♪ - [Unused Track for Rhythm Remix]GENERIC2020-10-01 | It's strange that I'm uploading an unused track as if it were stored in a game's files but never used, but in this case the track was intended to be the credits of Rhythm Remix, but was scrapped because it didn't suit the tone I wanted, and was slightly too long. Even just using the chorus would've been too dramatic. I had various plans after this one when I realised this, including a medley of all the minigame staff rolls, but ultimately I went with the credits theme of the very first game, which feels fitting, if less extravagant. Now the reason I chose "That's Paradise" at first is fairly amusing. I had spent an entire day from morning until evening working on the Airboarder section of the remix (yes, a whole 6 seconds). I had never modded a Rhythm Heaven game before (and didn't have access to the RHModding Discord server at the time) so I just used some knowledge I gained from a university course and a simple understanding of music sequencing to figure it out on my own, but Airboarder isn't that easy to work with. I spent the whole day figuring out what each sequence did until eventually completing the mod and feeling very, very satisfied (have you ever coded something on your own before? There's a wonderful feeling you can get from seeing something actually work correctly). The music must've broken something in my mind, so all the satisfaction I felt immediately converted into the desire to have That's Paradise as the credits. To represent that struggle of spending ages on very small things that add up to a very big work. ...and then I didn't use it.

Maybe the YouTube algorithm might pick it up. I wrote this in a hurry after realising that my initially-planned credits music was too dramatic and didn't provide an upbeat, fun vibe that I feel the credits of a Rhythm Heaven medley should have. I had fun working with this track on the credits, though it was one of the hardest things to complete in the whole project, next to the intro animation and a select few minigames.

I spent a week fiddling with the mixing because I have not and never will be satisfied with how it sounds. At least I'm more than satisfied with the actual arrangement itself. With this (and related materials) being uploaded, I'll finally be free of this project. I've spent far too long on it (transcribing and structuring the medley dates back as far as March 2019, with the video starting around May 2020), and I just want to move on to new projects. Maybe to not seem like a one-trick pony. That being said, none of the next couple of projects are going to be this ambitious because I really won't feel like producing another work that somehow matches the length of Nico Nico Douga Kumikyoku for a good while after this.

This was a very large project. I don't usually plan on producing projects of this scale, but the moment I realised that this concept had never been executed (as far as I can tell), I jumped on it as soon as I could. This video's also strangely bilingual outside of the credits and description, and we can chalk this up to Rhythm Tengoku not having an official English localisation, and thus for consistency it's all in Japanese.
