What a MESS?! | Cleaning my Sewing & Costume Spaces - 2024

Kirilee Cosplay 2024-10-18 | It has been a long time coming... and I started this video back in June 2024... and finished it in October 2024. If that itself doesn't tell you how much I LOATHE cleaning, I don't know what will (hahaha *cries*).

Prepping for Pax Aus | Cosplay Guest & Judge preparation

Parents shoving Kids! | Cosplaying at the Perth Royal Show 2024 Horror Storytime

Kirilee Cosplay 2024-09-27 | The Perth Royal Show has been in operation since 1834 and is one of the staples of the Western Australian community's annual calendar. And this year, there is an Arts & Craft category called "Cosplay".

Along side the competition, there is also the cosplay display and a few of us decided it would be fun to put on a cosplay and walk a little around the show for entertainment. We learnt quickly, this equal parts fun as it was pure stress.

We dealt with parents pushing children INTO cosplayers, people stopping infront of a mech suit whilst they are trying to walk, people pushing past and even one DELIGHTFUL individual who thought it would be fun to try and hit a mech suit over with the cosplayer inside (whilst they were taking photos with small children).

But for all the stress inducing people, there were a lot more people who were patient, kind and supportive of us - people who genuinely loved the opportunity to meet the characters and have photos.
And for them- it was all worth it.

Come Fabric Shopping with me - USA and Canada edition!

Kirilee Cosplay 2024-09-06 | Earlier this year, Terry and I headed for a USA and Canadian adventure! During that time, I also wanted to see what the different cities we were staying at offered their cosplayers in terms of fabric selections.

We started in Kansas City as we were staying with @proandconcosplay (insta & tiktok) - and honestly, the options were what I've come to know is avaliable everywhere in the states except for New York and LA which have their own fabric districts.
Not mentioned here is Walmart - I was actually SO suprised to see that Walmart had a pretty decent selection of fabric!

Then we headed to Montreal where we stayed with @dolldamage9194 and they showed us their local fabric joints!

And finally, we went to Toronto to check out the fabric district there.

I tried! Going to a Renaissance Fair! | Balingup Medieval Festival 2024

Making Nifty from Hazbin Hotel by Sunset Dragon | Part 1 - Dagger & Skirt

Never has there been a more correct statement for me making this cosplay.

I love Nifty, I love Hazbin Hotel and I love this design by Sunset Dragon. It is gorgeous! However, for a whole host of reasons, this skirt was so insanely hard to make... and I honestly couldn't give you the reason why other than everything that could go wrong, went wrong (some of it lack of planning on my behalf, some just luck).
Not going to lie, this was a struggle.

BUT I GOT THROUGH IT!
And I love my dagger so very much.

How to make a Short Hooped Petticoat Tutorial | DIY

Kirilee Cosplay 2024-08-09 | Do you need a short petticoat with a bit of in-built structure? Then this is the tutorial for you! Join me as I show you how to make a petticoat with an inbuilt hoop.

What you'll need:
Tape Measure
Lining fabric
Scissors
Matching thread
Pins
Wide Elastic - I’m using 4cm or 1.5 inch elastic
Metal boning
Wire cutters
5 meters of 150cm organza or tulle - 5.5 yards of 59 inch fabric
Sewing machine
And if you are using organza, an overlocker will come in handy
(Plus, an iron and marker will come in handy!)

If you wish to make the same petticoat as this one, the measurements for my Short Hooped Petticoat are as follows:
- Base lining/ hoop skirt fabric: 50cm by 2.03 meters (including seam allowance), or 19.5inches by 2.2 yards
- Boning: 1cm wide boning cut at 210cm or 2.3 yards (this includes a 10cm or 4 inch overlap)
- Top section: 2 lots of 42cm x 2.03 meters (including seam allowance) or 16.5 inches by 2.2 yards
- Bottom section: 4 lots of 21cm x 5 meters (including seam allowance) or 8.5 inches by 5.5 yards.

Flying to the other side of Australia for a Convention | SMASH 2024 + WCS Australian Prelim

Bridgerton Photoshoot in Montreal! Featuring Dolldamage!

Kirilee Cosplay 2024-07-05 | I had the wonderful opportunity whilst I was in Montreal to have a photoshoot with SPS Photography along side, the one, the only, Doll of @dolldamage9194 .
We decided on doing a Bridgerton theme shoot (specifically Season 2). I brought along my Penelope dress, and Doll made the most AMAZING Eloise outfit! She was PERFECT as Eloise!

I am so thankful to both Steven and Doll - they organised this amazing shoot before I arrived and it was wonderful to do this collaboration with them.

For those who don't know, Doll and I became friends (along with Damage of course) back in late 2022 when we both were representing our countries at Art to Play in Nantes, France. It was amazing to spend more time with both Doll and Damage this year!

I tried! | I wrote a novel in 1 month!

(Well... sort of... let me explain...)
I am no where near ready to show it to the world yet, but follow me on my journey as I tick off a bucket list item. Learn about the story I wrote, where the inspiration came from, the planning (I'm not a pantser in the slightest!), the first draft, the editing and then completeing the second draft!

No word of a lie, this book has been consuming a lot of my waking thoughts over the last month (especially)... and it has been 4 years to get here.

We are not yet finished with this project, so stay tuned for in the future for a potential part 2... just give me a couple of months to recover.

And if you need a sign to start writing a story that has been filling up your brain, may this be your sign to write the damn thing! Get it out of your head.

How do you redesign beloved characters for cosplay? | Sunset Dragon Interview

It is no secret, I love creating cosplays... and especially redesigns by the one, the only, the AMAZING Sunset Dragon.
Anyone who has spent more than a few minutes with me talking about cosplay will know that I am obsessed with her designs, so much so that I have made three of them to date and plan to do more in the future! I will sing her praises to anyone who will listen.

And when I was in Chicago for C2E2, representing Australia in the Crown Championships of Cosplay in Toph... which was a Sunset Dragon design... I had the absolute honour and privledge of not only meeting her, but hanging out and cosplaying with her. She also was kind enough to do an interview with me and I filmed it for all of you to enjoy.

Whats the worst that could happen in an International Cosplay Competition? 😭 | C2E2

Kirilee Cosplay 2024-05-10 | I was the Australian Representative in the 2024 Cosplay Central Crown Championship. I was feeling good. I was feeling pumped. And then... things don't ever really go to plan, right?

Now real talk, I had a wonderful time and as exhausting as it was, I got so much more out of this than I can ever begin to explain. And the people I met were AMAZING and INSPIRING and FABULOUS. And the fact that I got to hang out with Sunset Dragon amongst all people, the designer of my Toph Beifong outfit as she herself wore an Aang outfit, it was better than any trophy. Not to mention her praise and having done justice to her art. That... that is the highest compliment.
Congratulations to everyone who was part of this competition, especially the winner, Matthew Barry.

I hope that you enjoy the vlog - it is an emotional roller coaster because honestly, that was the entire time for me.

Im heading to the USA to compete in the Cosplay Central Crown Championships! Travel Prep Vlog

Kirilee Cosplay 2024-04-11 | I am the Australian Representative for the C2E2 Cosplay Central Cown Championship held in Chicago, April 2024. Wowzers.
This is still very crazy in my mind BUT it also means that I need to fix/repair a few bits of not only Toph's cosplay but also Penelope Featherington's daisy dress cosplay that I plan to take with me also.

I turned my Husband into my Anime Boyfriend | Making a Gojo Wakana Cosplay | Easy Quick 2 day build!

Kirilee Cosplay 2024-03-29 | My Marin was missing her Gojo, so we made Terry into him!
This was a super simple, easy to make, cheap and quick cosplay to make and was completed in a day and a bit (I cut everything out in a single night). And wholla! Another My Dress Up Darling Cosplay complete!

I used plain blue cotton to ensure it was super comfortable and easy to wear/ move in and we reused a wig that we had in the stash. All up it cost $38.50 AUD to make.

Is it perfect? Absolutely not, BUT if I had to remake it, I know how I would fix my mistakes :)

Gojo and Marin will be debuting together on Friday at C2E2 2024! Exciting!

How to make a Mini Crinoline (Hoop Skirt) Tutorial | DIY Full Skirt

Kirilee Cosplay 2024-02-16 | Is your dress looking a little flat even with a petticoat underneath? Don’t want to add more layers of petticoats because it would be too hot? Sounds like you need a skirt lifter to get that fullness! Otherwise known as a mini crinoline or hoop skirt. Then watch this tutorial.

This is a quick project that can make all the different - It took me about 30-60 minutes to put this together.

What you’ll need:
Tape Measure
Flat Steel Boning or Hoop wire
A marker
Metal Cutters
Something to make a boning channel. I am using a packet of blanket binding.
Twill tape or ribbon
Scissors
Thread
Pins
Elastic
A sewing machine
And some tape. Doesn’t have to be fancy.

Make your own easy Fantasy Gown! | I made it for SOMEONE ELSE! | Romantic Dress Tutorial

Kirilee Cosplay 2024-02-09 | Ever dreamed about running through the woods with a long gown flowing behind you? Well, at the very least, you can make your own gown by following along with this video.

The items you will need to replicate this dress is:
- A basic fitted bodice pattern (I used a princess seam pattern)

I went to an Anime Convention in Japan - I was not prepared.

I made a jumpsuit in 24 hours! Designing and sewing my own romper

Kirilee Cosplay 2024-01-26 | Jumpsuit, romper, onesie, playsuit... whatever you want to call it I wanted one that suited my body shape (a rectangle with a stomach) and had decently size pockets. Since I couldn't find one commercially that ticked all the boxes and was not a couple hundred dollars, I decided to make one myself using some free fabric and two patterns - all from my stash.

The end result is something that I love and have already worn a number of time. I did however end up added a tie at the neck to secure the top from falling off my shoulders.

Sometimes, as cosplayers, it is good to take a step back and make something super practical... and maybe work with fabrics you don't normally reach for ;) And now I have learnt more about knit fabric.

Failing at Cosplay is GOOD!

Failing is the BEST teacher when it comes to developing new skills. Cosplay is NOT a talent. It is a series of skills. The only way to develop cosplay related skills is to try new things (or even just to experiment with a skill you already have).
PLUS, it is the best way to get out of rut or if you feel like you are plateauing.

Get create, be brave, and be okay with failing. It is the only way you will continue to grow as a cosplayer.

I turned myself into a Candy Cane Anime Girl! | Christmas Cosplay Vlog

Kirilee Cosplay 2023-12-15 | Who doesn't love a good cosplay to celebrate the festive season! I'm not going to lie, I love celebrating Christmas and just the vibe that happens at the end of each year. It is a time for reflection and excitement for the New Year!

Most years, I also make a holidays inspired outfit and this year it was Peppermint Candy Cane Girl by Sunset Dragon (@_sunsetdragon_ on instagram) - I remember seeing this design and just knowing, deep down, one day I would make it. 2023 was the year!

It was a fun cosplay to make; and the focus was on the fun. I experimented a whole heap, used the stash and just found myself constantly smiling.
After the 5 month stress that was Toph (which I LOVE), it was nice to do a cosplay just for funsies - no pressure for a competition.

How to Color Foam Clay Tutorial | DIY Cosplay - Colouring with Markers

Kirilee Cosplay 2023-12-08 | Did you know that you can colour white Foam Clay/ Foam Sculpt? It is VERY easy and the results are SO cool and versitile! Create unique pieces for your cosplay without paint.

This tutorial will run you through how to colour the foam clay (it must be white foam clay), marbling technique and block colouring. It will also show that you can use moulds and other shaping tools like cookie cutters... or you can just freehand it.
Perfect for those small decoration pieces!

How to make a Mini Petticoat Tutorial | DIY Cosplay Skirt

Kirilee Cosplay 2023-11-24 | Do you need a bit more OOMPH in your mini skirt? Then here is a tutorial for how you can make your very own Mini Petticoat - perfect for those short yet full skirts in anime and manga. Idol petticoats anyone?!

Mine is made out of organza but they can also be made out of tulle.
You will need a single roll of either in your preferred colour (organza will be a bit stiffer than the tulle in my experience). The roll should be 29cm x 25m (or 11 inches x 28 yards).
