I was hoping for some mist / fog but it didn't reach down into the valley. I spent the time wandering around the rerserve looking for images in preparation for some forthcoming autumnal colour. It was a very wet morning and very middy underfoot in places, more than imagined considering how dry the summer has been.
National Trust - Parc Lodge Coles Corner - Walking, Talking & Photography 2025-09-19 | I go for a bimble (leisurely walk) this week (September 16th 2025) around the National Trust Parc Lodge near Abergavenny. A gorgeous woodland which skirts the ridge of Sugarloaf, a well known hill in the Brecon Beacons. When I got home I found footage of a walk I did earlier in the year when I mention returning to a spot to take a photograph, today was that day.

A small local copse in Bedwellty, Tredegar I have been visiting for a number of years and it's great if I just have a few hours for a bit of woodland photography. With a mix of sunshine, cloud and rain I wandered about looking for shots that might look good with autumn colour. I come away with just one image but it was more about getting out and being prepared. Its a location I have never shot in the fog, maybe this year?

The trig is not very high (317m) but is probably one one of the most difficult one to access. What I thought woud be a short troll in the sun leaves me in a sweaty mess. !!

Intrigued I got OS mapping up and went looking for details. I couldn't really find much in the way of a route or details so decided to drive to Mid Wales and explore. Following this I then sorted a route for a trig point in the area, Moelfre, at 441m.

Pen y Bicws - Trig Point Tuesday Coles Corner - Walking, Talking & Photography 2025-06-10 | Following my visit to the Trig Point on Rhiwiau I drove a few miles and parked up on the side of the road near Bethlehem and followed the Heart of Wales Line Trail to the Trig Point Trichrug, aka Pen y Bicws. It was the end of April and probably the hottest day of the year thus far. I struggled with the heat and had some problems with my mic not connectng to the action cam. Enroute I pass some interesting rocks and scout out a future photography location maybe? I stop to chat to some mountain ponies before the final short but steep pull to the trig.

I though head to the Brecon Beacons and take a 3 hour stroll in the afternoon and see only a few sheep, some birdlife and in the distance the local farmer... I see some moody clouds which then breaks up a little to see some nice sun and shadows. I explore a woodland on a hillside and then its home for my evening meal.

Mynydd Llangatwg - Trig Point Tuesday Coles Corner - Walking, Talking & Photography 2025-04-08 | Mynydd Llangatwg Trig Point is the 2nd closest one inside the Brecon Beacons NP to my home. It's one I have done quite a few times in the last year but I thought I would record a piece to camera to let you know about the challenge I have given myself.The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Ancient Monument.The monument comprises the remains of two large burial cairns, probably dating to the Bronze Age (c.2300 BC - 800 BC) and situated in open moorland on the summit of Twr Pen-cyrn on Mynydd Pen-cyrn. The stone-built cairns are both circular on plan and measure about 15m in diameter and about 1.5m in height. Although both have been disturbed in the past - large shelters have been constructed within each - the majority of the base of each cairn remains intact and undisturbed.The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of prehistoric burial and ritual practices. The monument is an important relic of a prehistoric funerary and ritual landscape and retains significant archaeological potential, with a strong probability of the presence of both structural evidence and intact burial or ritual deposits. The importance of the monument is further enhanced by the topographical association of the cairns with the round cairn to the E (BR358), on the upper edge of an E-facing slope of Mynydd Pen-cryn; and with the round cairn on the ridge further to the W (BR30). The summit cairns are intervisible with both.The scheduled areas comprise the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive. That to the SE is centred on the southeasternmost cairn (Item A: SO 20325 14460); it is circular and measures 30m in diameter. Looking Back on 2024 Part 2 (May - September) Coles Corner - Walking, Talking & Photography 2025-03-17 | 2024 was an eventful year - not in a good way - for me and the family. Stuff was put on hold at the end of April when I experienced a TIA followed by one week later my wife having a bad break of her femur. She was bed bound for 3 months and I was unable to drive for 4 weeks. Thankfully our son and his girlfriend were living with us at the time and able to help. Yes, that is what on offer should you choose to visit. As I sat at my desk the fog started to roll in mid morning. I packed the gear and headed to Silent Valley. As is often the case with this location the bottom of the valley was clear. I could see the fog was hanging around the top woodland with my fave beech trees so it was a case of climbing up through the reserve to get some atmosphere. North Wales - December 28 - 30th 2024 Coles Corner - Walking, Talking & Photography 2025-02-01 | Deb & I have for the last few years seen in the New Year in North Wales & after a very difficult year for us we booked again. We tagged on a quick over nighter to Chester & then headed to Porthmadog. Sadly, we cut short our visit by 2 days and headed home. I trapped a nerve in my back, Deb still has limited mobility due to her femur fracture and then we were given a weather warning for New Years Day when we were due to travel home . The weather was not great so our time was spent travelling about with short walks with the camera for me whilst Deb stayed in the car. We are hoping 2025 will be a better year. Happy New Year all.

What Lies Beneath Coles Corner - Walking, Talking & Photography 2025-01-19 | A late afternoon dash over the moors to look down into the Usk Valley looking towards Abergavenny and the icxoni peak of Sugarloaf mountain to catch a temperatur inversion that had been around all day. I had appointments during the day so couldn't get out until the fading light. I have seen this scene many time but it's always great to see it.

Allt yr esgair is not far from Brecon town and affords great views of nearby Llangorse Lake, the Black Mountains and the central beacons. The Usk valley is well known for low cloud temperature innversions and its a fairly easy walk to get above those clouds althoughtoday (Jan 10th) it was a clear day with the clouds much higher.
