martin covenThis is what my team has been working on lately. We have a new retopology modifier that allows you to use the Instant Mesh, Quadraflow or our own ReForm algorithms to retopologize your mesh.
We also have a Mesh Clean modifier that cleans out degenerate edges/faces and Non-Manifold geometry.
With 2021.3 we have also update the subdivide modifier with 3 new algorithms. Delaunay, Adaptive and Variable Curvature. Hope you guys like it!

We built this when we were developing TextPlus, but it's handy for anything animated where you want to adjust the animation.SmartExtrude 2022.2 update!martin coven2021-09-22 | Smart extrude now supports partial cuts/merges as well as multiple surface cuts. This is just a video of me playing around with the different cut types.

Rendered done with just the Max viewport.Quick model of a bicycle crankmartin coven2021-04-03 | Just playing around with some of the new tools. Modeled this bicycle crank with smart extrude and the symmetry modifier, plus some of the existing modeling tools.3ds Max 2022 - Smart Extrude and Symmetrymartin coven2021-03-25 | Just a little teaser on the enhancements to Smart Extrude (Shift + Drag a face) found in Editable and now in Edit Poly modifier! Also showing off the enhancements to the Symmetry modifier, which now allows you to symmetrize over multiple planes (X,Y,Z) or radially.Gladiator Hulk Retopomartin coven2020-12-08 | Just a quick retopo of the Gladiator Hulk model. The retopology took about 15 minutes for this one. The footage of the computing is sped up.Miro Retopomartin coven2020-12-07 | Just a quick recording of how I normally approach a model like this for retopology. This character has close to 200 elements. Fortunately, ReForm will take the number of polys you have set and distribute them in a smart way for all the elements or objects.
In this example, not all parts solve perfectly. It's usually a smoothing group being too small or not enough resolution. I normally just add a smooth modifier so it's quick to change the smoothing group angle threshold.

For complex models this can be a nice time-saver.SelectHardEdgesmartin coven2020-04-11 | There was a question as to how to select edges similar to how Crease Sets selects edges, without having to use the Crease Set modifier since the selection is only stored in that modifier.Chamfer on Textmartin coven2020-01-22 | Chamfer now behaves better than ever.Elevator Bloodmartin coven2019-10-31 | Happy Halloween!

Using the data channel modifier, you can quickly make these tasks easier and procedural. In this case I wanted to make a mask for areas of a terrain to separate the flat areas and the steep slopes so I could apply different textures or even define where vegitation might or might not grow.3ds Max Tension Deformmartin coven2017-01-19 | You can use the data channel modifer to generate areas of tension (squash and stretch). These areas can drive maps or in this case, morph targets. This is great for generating wrinkles.3ds Max Curvature for Worn Edgesmartin coven2017-01-19 | You can create worn edges with curvature in the data channel modifier. This video shows how it's done.3ds Max Blended Box Mappingmartin coven2017-01-19 | Method for projecting maps onto a model without having to worry about UV's. This is great because you can continue to model and automatically generate weights.3ds Max Tips And Tricks - Booleansmartin coven2016-12-05 | I have had several questions around the new Boolean compound object, so I thought I would put this together. While we don't have shift drag to duplicate operands, you can add multiple operands from the same object and any changes to the original object will be inherited for each operand. There are a few other things in here as well. If you have anything you would like covered, feel free to ask@

These modifiers were created with MCG in 3ds Max 2016. I'll be posting these and a few others soon.3ds Max This Is MCGmartin coven2015-04-15 | This is a series of primitives, tools and modifiers that were all generated with the Max Creation Graph. Some of the tools shown here include:
Clone modifier Clone by distance object primitive Affect Region - Deforms a mesh based on proximity Color By Distance - Adds values to the vertex color channel Push Limited - Similar to the push modifier, but allows you to collide with another object Spline Clone - Clones an object along a spline and aligns it to a surface Conform Mesh modifier - Conforms one mesh to another. This modifier uses both closest point to surface and a raycast that can be used individually or together in order. Cabinet Primitive - It's a cabinet primitive... Voxelize modifier Invert Selection modifier Vertex Color Scattering primitive Softselection to vertex color converter modifier3ds Max MCG Invert Selection Modifiermartin coven2015-04-15 | I created this modifier in roughly 20 minutes and sped it up 300%. This video is the actual process I went through and I tried to make comments to help you follow along.
Basically it inverts a vertex selection. If you have soft selection on it will also invert that, plus remove the selection. Otherwise modifiers affecting the soft selection would affect the selection.3ds Max MCG Fun With Matricesmartin coven2015-04-13 | I was just tinkering with mirroring and offsetting matrix values with Max Creation Graph. Visually seeing what is happening in the matrix really helps understand what is really happening in there.3ds Max MCG Spherifymartin coven2015-04-13 | Just a little something. A collaboration between myself and Martin Ashton. Built in 3ds Max Max Creation Graph. #MCG
The neat thing about this spherify modifier is that it is much more flexible than the old spherify modifier. It allows you to go beyond 100%, lock the deformation to desired axis, and it allows you to pick another object as the center of the effect.
