A small flood light highlights the area and visitors stop and listen before proceeding into the Village. The combination of hammered dulcimer, concertina and violin provide a unique sound.On a chilly winter's night, you step into the schoolhouse. Larry tends to the building's wood stove and you sit on school benches in a warm and cozy atmosphere listening to them play and learning about their instruments and the history of the school house.
12/29/2023 OBVR Candlelight Evenings - Company H, 119th NYSV Musket Fire Demonstration Chris Lauterbach 2024-01-01 | Shot at Old Bethpage Village Restoration, Company H 119th NYSV was stationed near the Schenck House and Barn. They participated in Candlelight Evenings and this was the final night of the two week event. As we approached the the end of the evening a I asked them to demonstrate how muskets were fired during the Civil War. And as we approach the New Year of 2024 these are my kind of "fireworks".

The house is filled with a glowing fireplace and lit by candles and lanterns in the various rooms. Be it Christmas carols or tales the living historians greet visitors as they tour the home.There is a glowing fire in front of the building to warm your hands and musket demos are periodically held (under separate video).

Chris was a long standing member of both the Militia and The 3rd NY Regiment of 1775 Long Island Coy's. He loved sharing his knowledge about the weapons used during the colonial era and the American Revolution. His sister was presented with a diamond-shaped hatchment in his memory.

It is open to the Living Historians (soldiers, camp followers) and visitors to the event. And it is open to Blue and Gray alike. George J. Muckenbeck is the Chaplain of Co. H, 14th Brooklyn Infantry and conducts the service.

8/26/2023 Old Stone House - Maryland 400 Commemoration Chris Lauterbach 2023-08-28 | The Maryland 400 were members of the 1st Maryland Regiment who repeatedly charged a numerically superior British force during the Battle of Long Island during the Revolutionary War, sustaining heavy casualties, but allowing General Washington to successfully evacuate the bulk of his troops to Manhattan.This video records the 247th Anniversary Commemoration. Maryland soldiers, American Revolution reenactors, Veteran's groups, and Sons and Daughters organizations were in attendance of this event. During the ceremony the names of the Maryland 400 were read by members of these organizations.
