March 23, 2023 G4 Aurora Time Lapse: The Day the Sun Invaded the earth #mlivetv timbuckyball 2023-03-25 | As observed in Midland MI. It was G3 througout this video, whis is naked eye spectacular, with goblins being thrown out of the main display and crossing the entire N-S horizon in 5 seconds. Considering these bogeymen are in the ionosphere, the actual speed must be incredible. My hypothesis is that the magnetic lines of force were so tortured and torn that a magnetic field gradient of great magnitude formed and the ionized atoms were ejected and followed this gradient. Best naked eye aurora I ever saw, covering nearly the entire sky with twisted and strange glowing images. Right as the clouds came in NOAA officially declared it a G4 storm based on magnetometer data but alas I stuck under total cloud cover. G5 is the highest storm strength by the way so G4 is rare and phenomenal.However Kp/G is a average of the previouse three hours magnetometer data so I can factually say this was a video of a G4 storm.Also note the diagonal tilt at times. This is due to tilting of the NS magnetic field of the earth caused by the enormous magnetic field carried by the plasma impact. Compass reading will change and GPS devices will be affected. Drone owners are wary of flying during a storm.

Offshore storm-force winds exceeding 70 mph were suddenly pushed ashore by a strong cold front. Onshore winds immediately hit 60 mph (NWS verified) and flattened the huge waves into a hurricane of mist. I was hiding almost inside my hatchback car pointed into the wind but still I could not stop camera shake so I had to wait a bit for the blast to abate. Still there was camera shake, hence the post-processing artifacts you see, but it gives you a good idea of an angry Lake Michigan.

Slow-motion Gale Clips @ Grand Haven MI 12-6-21 timbuckyball 2021-12-07 | Filmed at 120 FPS and presented at 1/4 speed. Winds gusting to more than 50 mph (measured 42 mph by hand anemometer in a single 30 sec sample), W veering WNW towards noon. Note the violence of the waves; not just near the primary lighthouse but along the pier and beyond.What else do you find interesting? Can gulls really fly faster than 50 mph? Without flapping their wings? Think about this...Photo conditions were less than ideal, wind in face, sand, some sleet, bright horizon and dark foreground all conspired to create poor stills. The dynamics in the video however are still observable so I spent about half my shooting time on video.

Southwest Wind and Waves at South Haven MI: Drone View (minimal editing) timbuckyball 2019-09-27 | Midday winds were up to 30 mph from the south. By 5 PM they had subsided to 15 mph, permitting safe drone flight and photography of the dynamics of a variety of waves. Note the degree of suspended sand as indicated by the brown color next to the south pier, due to considerable turbulence. Also note how this sandy water is drawn along the pier and ejected into the open waters beyond the lighthouse. This is evidence of a dangerous riptide that often occurs on the windward side of structures in large bodies of water. Watch the gulls surf the updrafts created by each wave. Finally, notice the complexity of the waves interacting with each other: size, direction and color. Layer upon layer of wave complexity starts to become evident if you watch for it.
