Tiny Whoop Pilots,
Don't miss your chance to race at this iconic location (this will sell out INSTANTLY). Now in its 5th year, the National Museum of the United States Air Force has invited us back to host the Micro Drone Race at the Air Force Museum.
The race track will have you flying in & around a C-124 Globemaster II & F-82 Twin Mustang through LED illuminated gates & features. Gates will be slightly larger than in past years.
There is a 64 pilot limit with choice from one of four qualifying sessions Friday & Saturday. The top 32 pilots from qualifying will advance to Sunday's TWO double elimination bracket races. There will be a Sport class final for pilots qualifying 17-32 in the morning, and a Pro class final for the top 16 pilots from qualifying in the afternoon.
Spectators are welcome & the museum is FREE to enter.

Music: Press Fuse by French FusePresenting: FPV Racing Multi-Diversity Ground StationCincinnati Quad Racers2022-01-19 | This multi-diversity ground station design is the result of a 2-year collaborative design and testing effort. During the 2020 and 2021 Micro Drone Race at the National Museum of the United States Air Force, micro-drone pilots did their best to race through tenuous at best video reception. The amount of metal in the museum hangar caused significant multi-pathing interference on the pilot video feeds. Attempts were made at providing a pilot ground station, but these suffered from poor placement, poor antenna quality, and additional noise injected via the unshielded video cables.
For 2022, we are pleased to announce the new and massively-improved multi-diversity ground station system, with many different technology enhancements designed to reject signal noise and provide pilots with a clean, stable goggle video feed for racing. The improvements are as follows:
1) Multiple ground station locations: a collaboration project based on a DIY 3-channel video diversity system first proposed on a RCGroups.com forum by grmis in 2017 grew new legs in 2021 with renewed interest in diversity video processing due to the unavailability of previously commercially available solutions like the DPCAV Oracle or Eagle Tree Eagle Eyes diversity modules. Fellow RC enthusiast Ron Hirsch from Maine helped the club to design, produce, and test custom-made boards. This allows up to 3 separate ground station locations across the race course. Link to original DIY thread: rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?2839781-3-channel-DIY-video-diversity-system-for-FPV-%2Awithout-RSSI%2A
2) Rapid Fire receiver modules: using current state-of-the-art diversity analog 5.6 GHz goggle receiver modules, we provide pilots with the best possible processing of clean video signal
3) -10 dB attenuators: many pilots during the 2020 and 2021 races reported getting cleaner video reception when using their RapidFire receiver module with no antennas installed. As confirmed with TrueRC owner and designer Hugo Chamberland, this is because directional antennas and even some non-directional antennas will effectively boost the signal strength, which in reality boosts both the "good" source video transmission and the "bad" reflected (multipath) video transmission. Because the "bad" reflected video transmission is inherently lower strength than the source video transmission, reducing the entire antenna strength by -10dB in effect improves the signal/noise ratio, giving the RapidFire modules the best chance of competing for the "good" source video from the two RapidFire antennas.
4) MX-AIR antennas: as recommended by Hugo Chamberland of TrueRC, the MX-AIR antenna provides a half-dome omni-directional video signal reception coverage. This helps to ensure the RapidFire receivers are getting "good" reception, without boosting the coverage in any one direction (which could cause a boost in the "bad" reflected signal).
5) Coaxial shielding: wherever the unbalanced video signal (what comes out of the RapidFire, and what goes into the pilot goggles) is being transmitted across wires, coaxial cables were used to protect the video signal from unwanted RF noise getting into the video signal via the wiring
6) Use of baluns: because long coaxial cables are bulky and expensive, a more practical solution for connecting multiple ground stations together, as well as sending the video signal from the ground station to the pilots and the DVR livestream devices, is to use a balun. The balun passively transforms the unbalanced video signal (very sensitive to unwanted RF noise) into a balanced video signal without introducing any latency, which allows for the use of less expensive ethernet cabling. Each of the twisted pairs in the ethernet cable transmits 1 video signal, allowing for 4 video signals to be transmitted 100 ft with very minor loss of signal and while being relatively immune to unwanted RF noise.
7) Cat6 ethernet cables: as a last measure to protect the long-distance balanced video signal transmission across ethernet wires, Cat6 ethernet cables provide additional shielding to protect the balanced video signal from unwanted RF noise.Tiny Whoop Racing from Full Throttle Adrenaline ParkCincinnati Quad Racers2022-01-16 | Powered by Restream restream.io
