CHRYSLER 200 RANDOMLY DIES / STALLS OUT/ LOW POWER / CHECK ENGINE P2174 DIAGNOSIS ADVANCED LEVEL AUTO 2022-11-09 | Hey guys! Today we take a look at a 2012 Chrysler 200 with a 2.4l 4 cylinder engine. The customer complaint is that the car will randomly die or stall out. The customer also is complaining of low power or weak acceleration. Using the scan tool we find DTC P2174 Low airflow /restriction detected (Instantaneous accumulation) stored in the PCM. During my diagnostic process I ran across something very interesting. The scan tool showed that the voltage for the APP sensor 2 would randomly drop down to zero. When I compared it to the actual voltage using a graphing voltmeter, the signal was not dropping out. Is this normal? or is this something to be concerned about? DODGE RAM 5.7 HEMI MISFIRE INSUFFICIENT IONIZATION DIAGNOSIS & FIX ADVANCED LEVEL AUTO 2022-09-21 | In today's video we take a look at a 2014 Dodge Ram 1500 with a 5.7l Hemi V8 engine. The customer's complaint is that the engine has a constant dead misfire on cylinder number 7. After using a scan tool to read codes we find that we have a P2320 Ignition Coil 7 Secondary Circuit-Insufficient Ionization code stored in the PCM. The owner has already replaced the spark plugs with high quality iridium but still has a misfire. After swapping coils and not seeing the misfire move, I knew we had a more serious problem. CHEVY SILVERADO LOUD TICKING POPPING ENGINE NOISE AFM LIFTER FAILURE AND DELETE ADVANCED LEVEL AUTO 2022-07-07 | In today's video we take a look at a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 with a 5.3l V8 engine. The customer complaint is that the engine is making a really loud tapping and popping noise. This truck does come equipped with General Motors AFM or Active Fuel Managment system, which is notorious for having problems and lifters with a high failure rate. There is even a class action lawsuit against GM for this design. After tearing down the engine we find that we have a locked up AFM roller lifter and the camshaft has been severely damaged. The decision was made to install an AFM DOD delete kit to insure that this problem never happens again. Today we take a look at a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD w/ a 6.0l V8 engine. The customer recently purchased this truck at an auction, but the truck has some problems. Along with the ABS and brake light being on, there is also a message in the cluster for "Service Trailer brake", "Service traction control" and "Service stabilitrak". Using the scan tool we find several codes including Can communication codes, C0050-05 Right rear wheel speed sensor circuit and a P0602 TBCM not programmed. Using a scan we find that we have a DTC P0692 Fan Clutch Circuit High code stored in the engine computer. The owners complaint is that the vehicle will not crank when using the key in the ignition. However, the mechanic is able to crank and start the vehicle using a screwdriver to jump the terminals on the starter solenoid. Once they start the engine up, the vehicle runs and drives normal. The owner has already replaced the starter motor and the shop already had a locksmith come and look at it. According to the locksmith, there is nothing wrong with the key, however the mechanic told me that he found several codes when using a scanner to scan the vehicle. The owners complaint is that the sunroof motor is not working. The shop has already replaced the motor 4 different times. According to the technician, after replacing the sunroof motor, it only moves about half way then stops. After that the new motor burns out and becomes non functional. They also mentioned to me that they can open and close the window manually and it seems to be moving smoothly, so they don't think it has anything to do with the track itself. They asked me to take a look, so I figured I would give it a shot. NISSAN INFINITI FX35 P0024 OR P0014 DIAGNOSIS & FIX ADVANCED LEVEL AUTO 2022-02-18 | She's back! Some of you guys might remember this 2009 Infiniti FX35 w/ a 3.5l V6 engine. I recently posted a video with this truck because it had a check engine light and trouble code P0024 Exhaust Valve Timing Performance Bank 2. In the previous video I explained that it was very likely we had a faulty Exhaust magnetic retarder, because there was a TSB from Nissan about this problem. However, after finding out the part was going to cost over $1,000 us dollars. The owner was hesitant to fix it. Well they brought it back and they want me to fix it, but am I confident enough in my diagnosis to take the backlash if replacing this part does not fix the problem. The simple answer is "NO". The customer complaint is that the car intermittently does not crank or start. After the owner lets the car cool down, she can restart it. Using a scan tool we find the trouble code P0615 stored in the ECM. This code is described as a starter relay control circuit failure code. The symptoms this car has and the trouble code remind me of a car I worked on previously with the same symptoms. That car turned out to have a faulty fuse box. Could this car have the same problem? The customer states that the engine is running rough, misfires and occasionally dies. With the scan tool we find a code P0024 "Exhaust valve timing control performance bank 2" stored in the ECM. Along the way I realize that this vehicle was likely flooded, Which makes me question whether or not I want to continue with it. I know some of you have been waiting patiently for this video and I just want to apologize for slacking. I've been sitting on this video for the past couple of months. If you haven't seen part one please check it out! If you have then you'll remember that we verified that we had a blown head gasket and we removed the cylinder heads. In part 2 we reinstall the heads only to find out that the engine fails a cylinder leak down test on multiple cylinders. We then have to remove the heads again in order to send them to the machine shop for a full valve job. CHEVY TAHOE TRAC OFF LIGHT STAYS ON DTC P1571 & P1689 DIAGNOSIS & FIX ADVANCED LEVEL AUTO 2021-11-10 | Hello everyone! In today's video we take a look at a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe w/ a 5.3l V8 engine. The owners complaint originally was that the brake light, ABS light and Traction control light were all illuminated. They had a trouble code C0267 stored in the EBCM and found that the module was faulty. They attempted to repair the module by opening it up and re soldering some of the contacts inside the circuit board. After the initial repair, the truck drove fine for a few days before all of the lights came back on. When they reopened the module to inspect it, they found that it had been completely burned and fried. So, they decided to replace the damaged unit with a used replacement from the salvage or junk yard. Now there are no trouble codes in the ABS module and no ABS warning lights on the instrument cluster, but the TRAC OFF light on the button stays illuminated. ADVANCED LEVEL AUTO 2021-11-02 | In today's video we take a look at a 1999 Ford F-150 Pickup truck with a V6 4.2l engine. The customer complaint is that the truck will randomly not start. The engine cranks and turns over but it will not fire up and run. Upon initial inspection, I found that during the time that the vehicle wouldn't start, the odometer on the instrument cluster did not read any numbers. Only dashes. Also, the anti-theft or security light would blink rapidly. This was something I was familiar with. Usually this means that we have a communication problem with the engine computer or PCM. I suspect a bad relay, a faulty diode or maybe even a bad ground. The only problem is, I can not duplicate or recreate the concern.
