Artist Prabhakar Kamble’s kinetic sculpture ‘Material Turn’ at Jhaveri Contemporary STIR 2025-08-01 | Indian multimedia artist Prabhakar Kamble’s ‘Material Turn’ (2025) is a kinetic sculpture made with nylon ropes, woven fabrics, leather straps, metal cowbells affixed to wood. Every five minutes, a motor turns the teeming collection of fabrics and materials, mimicking the sound of a cow as it walks. Leveraging powerful symbols of caste and caste-based oppression, Kamble draws viewers’ attention to the unfair material conditions Indian craftsmen and artisans face as a result of casteism.
