Kempelens speaking machine Fabian Brackhane 2017-06-06 | The 'speaking machine' of Wolfgang von Kempelen (1734-1804) was the first fully functional and anatomically based speech synthesis ever. This is a renewed short presentation of the replica built at the department of Phonetics of Saarland University, Saarbrücken (Germany) by Fabian Brackhane with assistance by the Orgelbaumanufaktur Hugo Mayer and Dominik Bauer. We began in 2007 and did improvements and further developements until 2016.
Kempelens speaking machine - with free reed Fabian Brackhane 2016-09-13 | This replica was built from 2007 on by Fabian Brackhane with assistance by Dominik Bauer and the Hugo Mayer Orgelbaumanufaktur. It is located since then at the Phonetics Departement of Saarland University at Saarbrücken (Germany). It's still work in progress - various experiments and improvements were made during the last years. For instance we developed a free reed excitation in parallel to the idea of Christian Gottlieb Kratzenstein's "vowel organ" which is demonstrated in this video.
