Spelunky 2 - Hitless True Crown to 7-99 (unedited vod) (3:44:22.934)
updated
This run I got unlucky on climbing gloves, so I bombed croc men in CoG until I got a teleporter for this skip. My hands were sweating for this one
I feel like I've come a long way since my first 7-99, an Animus Major that took me almost four hours to complete. I even feel like I've come a long way since my first True Crown 7-99, which took over three hours.
As usual, I still do lots of silly things in this run, but hey, it worked out! (:
Notes about the run:
0:01 New game.
0:26 I don't want this shop, but I don't like resetting very much.
0:43 I like to jump on the altar spawns like this. You can often kill them without taking damage, but if you get three or four bees that's pretty tough. Sadly, I messed it up this time.
1:22 I usually curse myself as early as I can in every run. I always stay cursed until I get the true crown. It makes things more fun.
2:51 Rollmec, and a lucky climbing glove in the crust.
3:34 Item bag! Yay! The item bag is the whole reason I go this route. Also, the audio messed up here for about five seconds :( Sounds like a buffer underrun? Maybe I should increase the buffer size on my audio interface...
3:51 Volcana. Wish I had a power pack.
6:01 I should have waited to sacrifice until I had a back item. Feels bad getting a yellow cape.
9:19 True crown, yippee! Dark level bat almost got me...
10:47 Olmec. Since I have the true crown, I can just skip to the ankh with a teleport.
11:38 Temple! My favorite area.
14:56 Ice caves, and a free eggplant! Ever since the guaranteed vault patch, this happens quite often on true crown runs.
16:24 Neobab.
18:15 This should have been a run-ender, but I got super lucky. I felt pretty dumb about this one, since I'm usually pretty consistent here.
19:19 Sunken City.
20:10 This overlapping generation is pretty unusual! It caught my attention, and I completely forgot where Waddler was, so I wandered around aimlessly for a bit after that.
21:15 Eggplant world! Yay! And a camera in 7-2, the run is blessed!
22:59 Hundun time.
24:04 Cosmic Ocean!
25:57 This was particularly scary for me.
31:41 I'm completely incapable of bombing a bubble.
36:42 Audio messed up again, this time for about six seconds :(
36:56 Camera on 7-19! The run is double-blessed!
40:42 I instantly regretted throwing this bomb. It was okay this time, but bombing a spiked ball is extremely dangerous. Sometimes the spiked ball will fly off screen, then a few seconds later it'll fly back on screen and crush you, so fast you can't react to it.
46:50 Kind of funny seeing two UFOs under Mr. Jellyfish.
52:48 Paste bombed my camera and scared the crumbs out of myself.
55:39 Stunned by a skull in the loop. Watching the video now, it seems hard to miss, but while I was playing I didn't notice there was a skull there at all! I'm pretty lucky I didn't lose my ankh there.
1:05:53 I broke the "never go up on Volcana" rule, and I paid for it with my ankh. I didn't see where the camera went, so I left it behind. RIP Camera, 7-19 to 7-53.
1:09:50 Third time the audio messed up. Sorry about that!
1:11:53 Platform almost squished me. Wah.
1:15:30 Whoops! I sent that witch doctor into the loop.
1:16:00 Stunned by my own eggplant. I'm really lucky the run didn't end here.
1:20:04 Accidental eggplant in the loop.
1:23:30 Around here, I started feeling like I might make it to 7-99.
1:28:30 Bouncing up like this was terrifying.
1:34:50 Lava in the loop! Wah!
1:38:00 By this point, I'm feeling pretty nervous.
1:42:58 Fourth time the audio messed up. Again, it's just for a few seconds. Frown.
1:43:06 This UFO scared the crumbs out of me. And of course, now there's lava in the loop again.
1:45:00 Camera on 7-92! The run is triple-blessed!
1:49:30 Now I'm getting really nervous!
1:53:17 Last level!
1:54:46 I did it!! Solanum Asinus!
I hope you like the song (:

Good snaily.
The music is a few songs I wrote for the snaily game I made :-)
I still don't have music stuff set up yet, but I will!
I don't really have everything set up to write or record music right now, but I'll make more snail videos with music later :-)
I did another little video game cover! :-) This one was for Dwelling of Duels "Konami vs Capcom" month. I picked a Konami game called Jackal and covered my favorite song from it (track 3 on the NSF file).
This was a last-minute entry, and I was basically falling asleep by the time I got to recording the guitars, so I didn't do a really good job, but I hope you like it anyway :-)
_@_v
I called this arrangement "Dashing Through the Snow", because it starts with that part. Hopefully it's different enough to be interesting!!
This is made with Famitracker, a free program by JSR, so it could theoretically be played on an actual Nintendo system! Sadly, I don't have the right hardware for that, so it's played back on my computer using emulated sound instead.
I let it loop for a while. Why not? You can always close it if it loops too many times XD

Actually, "gravitybeans9" is my attempt at an improved mix. I made it about 10 days after I posted the original video. If you really want the one from the video, which I think doesn't sound as good, it's here:
auriplane.net/gravitybeans5.mp3
Anyway, this is a cover of a song from Mega Man 5, called Gravity Man. I made it for Dwelling of Duels, a video game music cover contest. It came in 5th place out of 15 entries! I called it "Gravity Beans" in DoD, for no particular reason :-) I hope you like it!

This is a cover of the main theme from the game Cave Story. I played the bass on this song, and other people did the other stuff:
AdamOne - drums
Auriplane - bass
Careless - accordion/glockenspiel
Juja - guitars
Also, I played bass on 9 tracks on that Pixel Glass thing, and did a bunch of other stuff on it, too. Check it out if you like :-) My name's not on the web page, but you'll notice a lot of the stuff is from covers Juja and I did together. Some of them are updated with new stuff, like live drums or accordion from other people.
Also, you might have already seen this on Juja's Youtube page, but he sent me the file so I could put it on my Youtube too. So here it is! Sorry for the world's worst bass solo.
I'm learning how to do bends and working on vibrato / tone. In theory, I'm working on mixing, too, but I'm not sure I'm actually getting any better at it. Maybe. I wanted to do this one LCR, but then i couldn't figure out how to make LCR sound good with just two things.

You could play through faster if you used deaths to reset your position, but I wanted to upload a zero death run.
My only complaint is the hitbox on the spikes. When you die, the background glows red, which lets you see the tips of the spikes--they're black! So the tips are invisible while you're alive, which convinces you that you have a little more space than you do. Also, a small bug: if you jump onto a platform perfectly, so that your y-velocity is 0 when you hit the ground, you'll be stuck in jump mode until you fall back off--meaning your bar doesn't refill, and you can't jump again.
Anyway, pretty fun game. I should do Ludum Dare sometime.

I played through my game, Snailiad! It's not a perfect playthrough, but it'll show you the basic path through the game :-) Sorry about the low video framerate.
Although this is the basic path through the game, there may be alternate paths... and you may be able to win much faster than this ;-)

Hi, everyone! I made a snaily game, called Snailiad! I also wrote ten songs
for it, using a program called Famitracker, which lets you create NES music!
I hope you like the game and the music!

This is track 17, "Ending ~ Main Theme". Paul (xdanond) asked me to make a piano arrangement of an airship song he and I made together about thirteen years ago. I wasn't sure I'd be able to do anything with it, but I came up with this. You might also notice that the main theme shows up in several other songs! I tried to use variations on the same melody to lend some unity to the soundtrack.
Someone asked for a MIDI of the song, so here it is: http://auriplane.net/ending.mid
EDIT: I mentioned in the comments, this is an arrangement of an airship song for an RPG xdanond and I never finished, written back in the 90s. The original is kinda cruddy, but I'm including it here so you can hear how the song evolved if you're curious :-) http://auriplane.net/oldairship.mp3

This is track 16, "The End of All Things". I wrote this for Kabukibear's tune contest thing, which I used as an excuse to write a tune :-) I reworked it a little for Paul's game.

This is track 15, "Incarnadine", which plays for the final battle. I wrote the organ part first, which has some counterpoint, though it's not strict counterpoint; I added in the drums and doubled the pedal part on bass (with slight variation) afterwards. It may be a bit weird for a final battle song, but hopefully it works out! After six hours, it's intended to be a bit of a change of pace, and the battle is, after all, fairly long, so I felt it was fitting for the song to be a bit slower than the main boss track.

This is track 14, "Firestorm", the boss battle track. I named this track after Neferiti's ship, but it turns out her ship was named the Firebolt, so I named it wrong! That's okay, I think Firestorm sounds cool :-)

This is track 13, "Zero-Tension Limit". Yes, that seems like a bad title, doesn't it? Well, what can I say? It's a bit of an inside joke! Plus, I think it sounds cool. Ah well. In any case, this song takes over for "under the Radar" when the pirates have been discovered. It's intended as a "rising tension" song. I hope it does the job!

This is track 12, "Bleep World". This track was written to be another level theme, but he ended up only having room for one in-level theme, so this track got left out. This was my first attempt to write a "shooter" song, and it's influenced by Gradius and Martin Galway. Maybe you can hear it? Maybe not :-) At any rate, the track is fairly minimal, uses Magical 8-Bit Plug and Ultrabeat, and has a 13 against 16 rhythm. For the variation, I put the melody in the bass, which is my absolute favorite thing to do compositionally. I hope you enjoy it!

This is track 11, "Corridors". This was supposed to be a "rising tension" type song, but Paul (xdanond) didn't really like it, so I ended up writing track 13, "Zero-Tension Limit" to take its place. So, this track didn't get used, but it's kind of fun to jam over, so I wanted to up it anyway :-)

This is track 8, "Serenity". This is another re-published track, originally uploaded as "A Tale of Two Snails". Aren't piano and flute lovely instruments? I tweaked the notes a little bit to make the playing more consistent, and took out the guitar interlude which I felt ruined the song. The original is still online though, if you search for it. At any rate, this song became Ginny's theme, replacing "...And Snails", which xdanond used for a "Home" theme for Deus. I hope the serenity of the song adds something to her character as you play the game!

This is track 7, "Neferiti". Yeah, not Nefertiti, but Neferiti. That's how xdanond spelled it in Starwish :-) Anyway, this is my OTHER favorite track. It's entirely MIDI, and in fact, entirely done with Garritan Personal Orchestra. I'm in love with GPO's oboe! For this track, Paul wanted something cold or solemn, but I insisted that her theme have some tension under the surface, and I think it worked out pretty well.

This is track 6, "Under the Radar". This is the bridge theme, and it's been called a "sneaking around" theme, which I think is appropriate--the pirates are trying to stay under the radar, and it switches to one of the more aggressive themes when they're found. Bass is live, the rest is programmed.

This is track 5, "In the Cafe". I wrote this as Johnny's Theme, though it became Swig's as well. Paul wanted a "jazzy" theme, so I did my best! Guitar and bass are live, and the rest is programmed. This is my favorite track on the soundtrack :-D

This is track 3, "...And Snails". This is a remastered version of a track, previously uploaded as "Lawn Snail Two". I hope it sounds better! If you go look at that video, you can see the snail that was the inspiration for the song. I offered this song up as Ginny's theme, because she likes snails :-D In the end, another snail song became her theme, and this became a "home" theme for Deus. This song is an improvised acoustic guitar duet.

This is track 4, "Guinea Pigs". Deadeye likes to experiment on her fellow crew members, and this is her theme! Also, I was trying to put an animal into every track title, but I only managed the first four :-) I tried to make it just a bit wacky. Most of the instruments are MIDI, with the exception of the bass.

This is track 2, Space Fish, composed by Auriplane. You might remember this as a track I uploaded "for my friend's game", quite a while ago. This is a re-upload, but hopefully sounds a little better :-) Paul asked for a dance song, with a four-to-the-floor beat, and this is what I wrote. I intended it as a level theme, but it became the menu theme.
