How to divide dahlias | Quick tip The Impatient Gardener 2023-04-14 | How you divide your dahlias depends on your goal. If you want to increase your stock of a variety or sell them, you might want to divide down to single tubers. If you have enormous clumps, perhaps if you live in an area where they can overwinter in the ground but it's been awhile since you've lifted and divided, you want to divide to ease congestion and keep the plant vigorous and can divide to larger clumps.But I grow dahlias as garden plants so I divide into clumps that will fit into the one-gallon nursery pots I like to start them in early.
